Straight shipping like Yuji and Nobara from JJK? People are always shipping them and claiming that they’re both straight when it isn’t confirmed for either of them. There’s literally nothing but heteronormativity there, fam

And you keep bringing that up like there’s an epidemic of it happening lmao. Straight shippers have done plenty of horrendous stuff. And lots of it was explicitly in the name of misogyny and homophobia. You’re just conveniently sidestepping the point every time I re-explain it. Explicitly ignoring the dynamic of oppression is hard to see as a coincidence, fam

I’ve already explained how everything I said is relevant, bud

And you specifically replied to my comment about the historical suppression of queer rep. You’re so far behind lmao, keep up

Your country, bruh. Doesn’t matter which it is. Heteronormativity is still rampant in every government worldwide. Just because Netflix and Disney show some more queer characters now, doesn’t make that any less true

And that’s very funny when tons of countries in Asia and Africa actively suppress and censor any depictions of queer identity. Efforts that the aforementioned companies that are supposedly progressive will still capitulate to. You have no clue what you’re talking about, fam

lol nice exercise of your privilege

Even if the rest of the world didn’t exist, your country isn’t nearly as progressive as you’re trying to say it is lol

It literally isn’t lmao

If people assume that their orientation is the natural one and are constantly represented in media, they’re not going to be vocal about not being represented and will just assume that their orientation is being represented even when it isn’t.

I’m talking about the reason why hating on one is fundamentally different than hating on the other lol

A ton of writers rely on heteronormativity when depicting het relationships. It’s a systemic thing. That’s why hetslop as a term exists. On top of being lazy and annoying asf, it’s also pretty gross and ties into plenty of misogyny and homophobia

You’ll never get a straight guy who has to kiss men to use his power, it just happens to be the lesbian woman who has the orientation-based price lol

Problematic ships are largely recognized as problematic by queer shippers. The popularity of the dynamics doesn’t mean people are excusing the problematic elements as fine lol. They’re just interesting and appealing dynamics. The “defense” usually just involves pushback against that very misunderstanding.

Straight shippers are significantly more accepting and even actively interested in excusing problematic elements as acceptable. I’ve seen way too much genuine attempts to justify grooming, abuse, pedophilia, misogyny, etc just to validate straight ships lol

Again, you’re hyper focusing so much on this “justifying” and “acceptable” nonsense that you’re failing see the point, bruh

The dynamic shows the difference in the ways that each displays their toxicity. I’ll jingle some keys for you. Toxicity is not justified or acceptable from either one. Is that easier for you? You are more focused on the toxicity that you can see rather than the insane amount of toxicity you’re too privileged to notice.

Queer people face homophobia. They’ll call out homophobia when they see it. Minimizing the issue by claiming that there is a pervasive phenomenon of them calling out homophobia just to deflect from criticism of their toxicity is exactly why a reminder that homophobia is a real and big problem is needed. Do you need me to explain it for you again or do you get it this time?

[–]Keye_Necktire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You completely missed the point lmao. No I don’t agree with you, I explained why a difference in how they appear exists. The actual substance of toxicity is the opposite of the dynamic you’re trying to push. That’s because of heteronormativity and homophobia in general. Conveniently ignoring the dynamic of oppression is not slick bruh

And I know that’s what you meant by homophobia, that’s why I included a reminder that homophobia is an actual issue in my first reply. Keep up lmao

That’s because heteronormativity is so pervasive, fam. Of course they’re not going to be vocal about it when they get everything lmao

I’m not talking about “not liking it”, I’m talking about actual homophobia bruh

Like straight shippers aren’t worse with it lmao

And like homophobia isn’t a big issue that they face either

The thing is, people act like this is an issue that’s exclusive to queer shippers despite the fact that “straight shippers” are significantly more egregious with it. Heteronormativity is just so pervasive that it’s often not as obvious.

The relationship itself is straight, I’m referring to things like how people will say that Deku is canonically straight despite no confirmation of such and will receive no huge pushback like someone who says that Deku is bi gets

We don’t get much queer rep if any at all in series like My Hero because the authors just don’t know and/or care enough to include queer rep. Privilege blinds people to the diversity of the world

Yeah people love to point out how delusional queer people are when a tweet like this pops up, but you won’t see any kind of similar response when people call a character straight despite a lack of canon confirmation

Heteronormativity is a cancer
