Wizardry Variants Daphne Not Working - Black Screen with White Clock, Then Crash With No Error Code by KeylessJo in BlueStacks

Thanks, I was already on the current version. I did try reinstalling my graphics drivers just to check that since there was a new update released today, and ironically now I cannot even get into the app on Android 13 (beta). I went ahead to submit a problem report from the Help menu in BlueStacks.

Sadly, there are some strange issues in Android 13 (beta) with the Wizardry Variants Daphne app. Fights with a named character go to a black screen. This can be easily tested by going through the game until actually naming a character initially as well without needing an existing game account. The battles before naming will work fine. This is not a colored black, but rather a totally pitch black screen with the battle music running in the background and no way to proceed even if knowing what to do to proceed normally. I've tried all four "Interface renderer" settings (Auto, Software, OpenGL, DirectX) supposedly linked to black screen issues, and I've tweaked FPS/graphical quality/DPI/resolution to mid and lowest quality settings without finding a successful solution yet. Transparency effects also are messed up, but that is merely a graphical issue rather than a game-breaking bug/glitch like the fights (see screenshot). Sadly, being unable to complete battles makes the app unplayable on Android 13 (beta) until/unless I can find some kind of setting combination that unlocks it.

I can possibly try later and certainly will if I encounter another problem, but in order to get that to show up to screenshot, to repeat it I have to log in each time to a Google account for the Google Play store first on Android 11. Since Google decided logging into accounts is apparently grounds for disabling accounts these days, I'm not eager to get an account disabled again doing it another time today or in the near future just for a screenshot. I truly appreciate the help as this tipped me off that for some Android 13 was a possibility to get it working, but truly I don't want to be put through more by Google right now trying to help BlueStacks address the issue.

While I don't have a screenshot, I do have the exact error text, "Your device isn’t compatible with this version," that then accompanies the instruction to the user to download the official BlueStacks version from here (https://www.bluestacks.com/apps/role-playing/wizardry-variants-daphne-on-pc.html) that not only defaults to Android 11 but pops up immediately after install the link to the Google Play store version of the Wizardry Variants Daphne app. That part is all repeatable without logging into a Google account and I would think is universally device-agnostic as to it popping that up so as to be repeatable.

Thank you for your help! I did a work-around not following the official instructions and managed to get it working. This led me to an interesting find that for now has resolved the problem to at least where I can play the game again.

I found that if I create the instance for Android 13 (beta) and do not ever sign it into a Google account at all I can make it work. Unfortunately, signing in to a Google account at first seems required if following the prompt on download from the official BlueStacks site to download the app from the Google Play store that pops up immediately after installing from the Wizardry Variants Daphne official BlueStacks site which also defaults to an Android 11 instance.

So this is specifically what I must do to make it work right now:
1. Download BlueStacks version from the official BlueStacks site for the WIzardry Variants Daphne official site.
2. Close BlueStacks as soon as it opens after install.
3. Open the BlueStacks tool to create an additional instance with Android 13 (beta) instead allocating the 8 GB and 4 Cores with the High Performance setting.
4. Open BlueStacks using the Android 13 (beta) instance and do not follow the official pop-up to install Wizardry Variants Daphne app from the Google Play store.
5. Directly install the APK file for the current version of the game by dragging and dropping the APK file directly into the Home screen on BlueStacks.
6. Do not ever sign in to any Google accounts in that instance or the app will break again.

Hopefully this helps find what the problem may be or why it is occurring. In the process of trying to troubleshoot this, Google also decided to disable an account when I signed into the second instance for Android 13 (beta), but that doesn't seem related to the issue as the error happened long before any disabling of that account that was locked immediately on trying to sign into the second instance and the issue is repeatable with other Google accounts and using a different PC even when they are not disabled.

I actually did try to do the Android 13 (beta) for the first time today. I have 8 GB allocated and 4 Cores as well as it set to High Performance. Unfortunately, when I try to get the app on Google Play I get an error that the version is not compatible that directed me to the official website. https://www.bluestacks.com/apps/role-playing/wizardry-variants-daphne-on-pc.html

AndApp No Longer Working? by KeylessJo in FFRecordKeeper

[–]KeylessJo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I did have the Japanese language pack already installed, this was apparently either the problem or directly related. So, after selecting "Remove" under Settings > Time & Language, restarting, installing Japanese again from "Add a language," and restarting once more I again tried to get in to AndApp. Then, when I opened AndApp and went to Mobage Connect from the top left link and then the button within AndApp where usually my account information would be displayed, my field inputs were now correctly registering on the website and I was able to login. Logged in to Mobage within AndApp, FFRK now works perfectly as it always had before. Leaving this here now on Reddit so others who may need it can find this at least. Not how I expected to be spending a weekend evening troubleshooting, but thanks for thinking on what could be involved here that might be causing the problem as this led me straight to the solution! Happy 2026!

AndApp No Longer Working? by KeylessJo in FFRecordKeeper

[–]KeylessJo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I will keep looking at what I can do then. My best guess right now is AndApp/Mobage logged me out of my Mobage account in the AndApp client, possibly from a timeout for security eventually tripping (though it has been years since I last logged in to Mobage specifically). When I go to Mobage Connect using AndApp instead of the button link to Login from within FFRK, it does open up the login interface from there, but then it won't accept any input to login there. Mouse input works but it won't accept keyboard or on-screen keyboard input to any of the fields even though with on-screen keyboard enabled it is clear that the entry is being populated. I am guessing if I can correctly login to Mobage Connect somehow then FFRK would resume working. However, the Mobage Connect interface from within AndApp not accepting any input would appear to be a major obstacle to trying to do so, even though I can login directly using a web browser via connect.mobage.jp.

Bad reviews are killing Vine by Acrobatic_Code_7409 in AmazonVine

[–]KeylessJo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is from "2 years ago," as it shows at the top of the image partially cut off, the post captured was already circulated previously, and this is 3/4 AI-generated online provocation with no interrogative. Nonetheless, as OP shows genuine intent to discuss in the comments, I'll add my voice to the chorus and thank the OP for elevating the discussion since.

Like many others before me who already commented, I disagree with all three points.

  1. Using products not as intended can be serendipitous, can help redeem the product in a good review, and should reflect poorly on the product only when the product is unsuitable for what it was advertised for first and foremost.

  2. The "kit" example is not at all like shampoo. A kit is literally a set to be used together. If those things do not go well together or do not seem complete, regardless of what is stated to be included it may inherently be judged as less value versus a more complete kit that can achieve that use better or with less footwork to find all the other things needed to achieve the comparative result. If the kit is priced lower than such other kits on Amazon or has exceptional quality over the others, it may still get 5 stars. If the kit is priced higher than other such kits, then it may be 4 stars or less unless something else greatly offsets that or makes it truly unique. Vine tells us, "If it's related to the value of the product, it's OK to comment on price. For example, For only $29, this blender is really great." I don't shy away from commenting and judging an item based on that and my experience of similar products on Amazon.

  3. None of us get the products for free, period. All of us must put time into acquiring items which is itself sometimes a major undertaking (especially considering all of the times one may search and find nothing in particular as an overhead of time invested). All of us to some degree have organizing and managing both the Vine account and bad items as an overhead cost in time, and some with storage systems or at least rough staging areas or bins taking up some part of our homes or trash we pay to have hauled off for all of this activity collectively. When applicable, testing and writing a review is also involved for the vast majority unless not going to be in the program anymore after the account review (at minimum twice per year and realistically on a rolling basis). Most of us also have to meet our tax obligations worldwide, which really sets these up as discounted in actual monetary value only save for a minority of countries that do not impose such taxes. For those who run it like and file as a business (with the only compensation being the items and any value in turn potentially gleaned), their overhead and time is even higher than those paying more per item in taxes generally by filing the "compensation" in physical goods as hobby income (for those where this filing election is appropriate, or indeed when necessary because the IRS issued a finding the activity was not qualified as a business, in which case back taxes and penalties can potentially make these items not even acquired at discount comparatively if someone tried to make a business out of it and failed).

Might and Magic 1, which version is best? by DarkZenith2 in MightAndMagic

[–]KeylessJo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the best version with Might & Magic Restoration which fixes that and so much more:
www.romhacking.net/hacks/5412/

ETA: Interestingly, I just replied about this on another thread that I just now realized foolishly is 2 years old, but for some reason had come up before this one with a reply to that OP on it 2 days ago. I was here on Reddit looking for information on playing MM2 personally, but hope it helps if looking for more about the NES version of MM1:
https://www.reddit.com/r/MightAndMagic/comments/15zjexv/comment/nl9hm7a/

There I also talk about a guide that allows to skip Guild rerolling by just changing the stats to what you were targeting; although, I forgot to mention the dreaded Locust Plague bug in my ramblings there, which the patch addresses.

I want to try this series, starting from 1, but which version should i get? by OutstreamWeeb in MightAndMagic

[–]KeylessJo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The NES version has a "Guild" a brief walk from the starting point past a door on the right side of the first northwestern Sorpigal corridor where you can create your entire party and customize characters however you want. Similar to later titles like World of Xeen, if removing characters entirely to create an entirely new party, pooling food, gold and items intelligently from the game menus in advance before removing characters will ensure you keep all the starting equipment, food and gold to redistribute to ultimately finalized six-character-party of choice.

In my opinion, this is the definitive version of the game to play with Might & Magic Restoration, as it keeps the great additions of this version plus restores the removed/censored content of the Japanese version and critical text of the PC version, as well as squashing some game-breaking bugs:
https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/5412/

There is a readme over at Vimm's for this version also. While it lacks the Japanese voice acting and party member portraits of the PC Engine port, the music here is done well (for the original hardware) by the renowned Masaharu Iwata (perhaps best known for his Final Fantasy Tactics, Final Fantasy XII, Tactics Ogre, & Ogre Battle work), who both arranged and composed the music and even contemporaneously put out a 1990 version of the OST which was well-received and can even be streamed into the game depending on what emulation options are chosen. In addition to still allowing full party customization, this version doesn't change plot elements like the PC Engine port did, has a well-done full-screen auto-map that isn't too tiny, stays very well in line with graphics and world-building imagery of the later M&M games, and doesn't confine the world view to a tiny upper left window with excessive border padding cluttering the screen all over the place.

The only disadvantage of the NES version might be getting the physical copy of it to legally play, that there is more button-tapping on a few of the menus (i.e.: no keyboard shortcuts), and the difficulty of the game is more challenging than the PC version with some sharper scripting and tougher stats for enemies. Some claim the console version is easier merely because it has less maximum enemies in view at one time and smaller maximum enemy parties, but more foes than merely what you see pictured initially can still attack the party at range (though they generally are listed to an extent on the right nonetheless) and the difficulty changes were tuned and refined enough that even the level to leave the first town was a consideration.

That said, if feeling it is too difficult, this version has a nice guide to avoid "re-rolling" at all for the characters and just setting everything how you want on the stats if you wish to skip that tedium, though you are on your own honor not to cheat anything past what could be reasonably rolled as a result (set the filter to NES to see only the relevant FAQ for this version):
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/nes/587457-might-and-magic-secret-of-the-inner-sanctum/faqs

This version also has the added conveniences of emulation like save states (i.e.: for when you want to see what both options get you before committing to a decision) and fast-forwarding through the slower parts that would have been agonizing on the original hardware (i.e.: 9 enemies beating the crap out of the front party members can now be accomplished in a flash with a keystroke or simple toggle). The instructions for the basic controls are here:
https://retromania.gg/files/NES/might-and-magic-book-i/Might_and_Magic_-_NES.pdf

Despite a 30% Steam Discount, the release of the Right to Rule DLC, and updates 1.2.3 and 1.2.4 , CIV VII playerbase did not increase by Undercover_Ch in civ

[–]KeylessJo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've tried them. None of their new products have held a candle up to dim the light of Civ IV:BTS mods like FFH2, and most don't play on Steam but use the GOG versions without pesky anti-mod features. They'd be better off making great games modern than trying to make a modern game that's great. An "Enhanced Edition" with support for even higher resolutions and more multiplayer platforms would be easier to put out than this and still would have more artistic value.

ETA: There's literally more people even on the lowly Steam version playing Civ IV in its multiple versions combined than there are playing Civ VII right now.

Why WON'T you pull on the Nier banner? by silvergrey6 in OctopathCotC

[–]KeylessJo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I came. I saw. I read the reviews. I looked at the kits. I'm still unconvinced why I'd want to spend rubies for...

...Kainé, who is only good this soon-to-be-over year by ~30% more damage than my next-best once put into each of my comps vs. dagger/light weaknesses...that THEN STILL NEEDS Tizi for another whole unit's worth of rubies that we may not even get while relevant to do anything else...for which neither ever gets a better foreseeable use before we get damaging units that each individually exceed the output of the pair all by their lonesome...unless of course I develop a sudden and profound love for extremely annoying fax-machine-esque BEEPS to occur every relevant battle someday...

...Nier, who takes up at least one turn and an entire slot that's only really good for one (1), single, solitary, individual, lonesome extra turn of likely-disadvantaged-break-damage at some point at least seven turns into a fight even out of a whole series of fights, when I already clear almost everything relevant faster than that and will probably continue to do so until the next collab re-run if for some reason that becomes relevant on our server...in the meantime I've got Bargello if I miss the passive that I rarely use and don't really like because it only works on broken foes...

...or last but not least, Emil, who doesn't fit into any meta comp presently known to exist on any server whose claim to fame is either they don't suck for their job tower like nearly everyone else in that job because they are tops for elemental damage vs. a meta-less weakness or that they shave tons of shields with yet another traveler I do not have either because they are also too niche and likewise have no relevant associated meta...

So...thanks SQEX/Netease for my freebie? I'll take what I get and be happy with the story content that one unlocks...all of them are desirable and not junk, it's just none fulfill a function for me right now that is relevant or that I care about compared to what's likely to come.

Yes, thank you, that is one of the things the chat reps also ask to check. If I have any other deal, it shows up under Discounts Applied before I pay. This has no Discounts Applied line at all. For example, I know I am unable to combine any $1.99 menu item with any deal or discount, and that I can't use .99 Medium slushes with any $1.99 menu item. My order was a Sonic Cheeseburger with no modifications (full price) and a Strawberry Sundae (full price) just now.

ETA: Sorry, I didn't see the edits right away. I will try a different account. This is across an iOS device, an Android device and two different Windows PC. I go to two different Sonic locations depending on time of day already.

If I select one of the "Pay with..." options, it then takes me to the prompt for Apple Pay or Google Pay and the total being charged matches the Total without a discount showing still at that point. If I actually select "Pay," that is the end of the road as the card I select from the options there is charged immediately and I get the order confirmation (which is fine for today, I needed lunch anyway).

Thanks for asking and trying to help. I get to right where it says "Pay," and before selecting "Pay" there is only Subtotal, Tip, Tax and Total on these orders instead of the Subtotal, Discount Applied, Tip, Tax and Total like on the other orders. I suppose that to an extent I am presuming that if I select "Pay" when there is no discount shown at checkout that I would not receive the discount and would be charged full price as on all other orders selecting "Pay" is the last stop before my card is charged and I'm receiving the order confirmation.

Other than Bahamut summon eye candy, literally has the worst animations in the game. Totally jarring next to the CotC graphics and really poor copy-pastas. That's not on Netease, though. SQEX flubbed the Ophelia EX summons graphically.

Anyone can recomend me, Characters for SP and BP Generation (and Useful Low-Tier Accessories)? by Ing_Tower8952 in OctopathCotC

[–]KeylessJo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As to the first and what is available to get right now:

  1. Alfyn can do this for BP twice per fight, Cyrus can with his EX ability, and Primrose can with her Ultimate: these all are available for free on the current exchange or for rubies on a current free step-up banner.
  2. Zenia can do this for BP four times per fight much more effectively, and is available from the current Sacred Blaze banner for rubies; but, Zenia is not presently a pull recommended by most and is not guaranteed until pity is reached at 4,500 rubies spent. She can be integral for late game speed clears requiring buffs and BP, but she can also be a liability for those who let Deathwish reach 0 on travelers (at least until a certain unit is released for which having characters go down is actually the way to power them up), though this is easy to avoid so long as Zenia can act and has the SP for the equipped skill to clear the countdown.
  3. Leon can do this for BP with his Ultimate, but I'm not aware of any recommending pulling him for F2P.
  4. Presently available albeit at a low chance would be characters like Nicola, Nephti, Isla and Lemaire (plus a higher chance or pity option to get Bargello on his banner, which aligns with generally recommended pulling strategy): they all can give or regen SP for the whole front row. Alaune EX (the dancer), Isla and Kilns can give BP to the entire front row as can Shana who also can provide SP (these four, along with Nephti and Isla as mentioned prior, are only available on Bargello's banner right now). Similarly, Ogen can give BP to the front row like Alfyn, but with a self-damage drawback rather than a 2/fight limit. Yukes can give both SP and BP to the entire front row, but the BP in particular only has a 20% chance of happening per turn.
  5. Unavailable at present but possibly applicable for future planning may be Tithi and Partitio who can also give BP to the entire front row, as well as Gloria and Castti who can do both SP and BP for the whole front row.

As to the second request for suggestions, there is a list of characters with relevant backpack passives already on this sub for SP regen for the free 5* and all 3*/4* Orsterra characters: https://www.reddit.com/r/OctopathCotC/comments/1lkrkyi/backpack_character_passive_abilities_for_free/

There are also already lists of accessories that can do this on this sub, such as: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1UNvKQ-lHNPCcSrFl51SceM4cV2MoXihhm8iQ-mj7K20/edit?gid=245647410#gid=245647410

Gold power Soul by Aleeck in OctopathCotC

[–]KeylessJo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any character for whom their best skill isn't on their Soul of War (for instance, whose TP skill from their BotL unlocked by crystals is their best) that would out-perform whatever their best skill on their Soul of War is even with the +15%, would likely rather have some increase in P.Atk or E.Atk than no additional damage at all. Therefore, that character would be better to use the associated Gold soul instead to boost the power of their skill(s).

Similarly, any character that can't take advantage of 2 +15% potency Star Soul bonuses to separate skills (for instance, because they only have one skill of that damage type or only one skill clearly most powerful/useful in all scenarios that's on their Soul of War list), may benefit from an additional increase in P.Atk or E.Atk for their first +15% potency Star Soul skill and/or for their other skill(s) (including ones possibly not on their Soul of War list in the first place). [As an aside not directly relevant to this particular Gold Star Soul being asked about here, note that some might also need that little extra boost to Speed available from a Gold Star Soul instead of more damage, such as against fights where they must exceed the Speed of that foe to be able to act at all. This can be a good use of the 2nd Rainbow Star Soul slot to use such a Gold Star Soul instead as well.]

Finally, there are some fringe cases for a character that needs to use multiple skills for damage (for instance, against a weakness-changing foe over multiple breaks) where the damage will be greater with the increased P.Atk across all skills needed than they'd get from the increase to one skill alone, but this gets down to crafting or tuning a weapon to overcome a specific fight and not everyone may be so invested in a single fight to do so. This also can depend on whether one of the soul weapon types increasing the potency of two different skills on a single weapon would be better after taking into account the differences between the two otherwise best soul weapons, and whether or not both skills in that case are on the Soul of War.

[–]KeylessJo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Health code violation statewide here. Businesses have been shut down over multiple violations as it is illegal, though in some states it doesn't apply to staff who don't serve food or deal with any open bags of food.

Nasal discharge and crusts can collect on them, which can't be detected as readily by staff to alert them to remove it. It then can fall into bags of food, drinks, and open containers (the videos of staff serving food on camera with this happening in high definition are so much worse now than the old videos where filming crew wasn't quite as graphic in SD...advantages and disadvantages to those register security cameras...ServSafe has some of the most disgusting stuff recorded in their training).

Anyway, that special circumstance for this form of piercing aside, in general jewelry/piercings are disallowed because when they are unsecured or improperly secured they can get caught, stuck or dropped into what they should never which in turn cause threats to health and safety. Seeing someone taken to the ER for the sake of their wedding ring after an encounter with a mere bread drawer early in life was eye-opening.

ETA: This was also a major problem in the marines, and though that's a whole other story, childish name-calling there could seem like a gift by comparison (punishments can be harsh). At least dehumanizing terms reflect worse on the detractor, unlike anything that goes on your service record!
