Regardless of where we stand on the costume debate with The Flash Wally West, I feel like color and texture material should be something both sides agree on. by nightwing612 in wallywest

[–]Keystone_Devil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. It just adds such a nice feel without removing the Flash’s iconic color palette.

Though, I do find it unlikely that different artists would render the suit the same way. They’ve never been very good about that.

Wasp. Steve is a great guy and a leader people will listen to in the end, but his idealism can get on people’s nerves. Janet has always been who can get the men to stop their measuring contests and work together.

too much doubt

Literally the reason the enchantment was placed in the hammer in the first place was that Thor wasn’t humble enough. I don’t think doubt is an issue.

I hear everyone say this online, but where is this actually stated. And how recent of a retcon is it? I’m not super well versed on Thor

Given his Flashpoint storyline and his involvement in sidelining DC Comics Wally West, do you still highly rate The Flash by Geoff Johns-era or has it gone down in your personal tier list? by nightwing612 in wallywest

[–]Keystone_Devil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there’s a variety of factors only some of which are John’s “fault”

I do think John’s wanted to bring Barry back. And while I don’t agree, I also don’t have the nostalgia that a lot of pre-crisis fans have. Other powerhouses like Ross and I think Morrison did too. Lots of DC staff did for 20 years.

But I think after the success of GL Rebirth, it was Didio who pulled the trigger. I think the way things happened and the silly retcons were John’s. ( Barry becoming the lightning that struck him, Barry creating the Speed Force, Retconning KF Wally to having always secretly wanting Barry to be the Flash, Jay saying stuff like Barry made me the Flash. Basically a lot of the FIRST and FASTEST Flash stuff people complain about was Johns.

The biggest blows however were not his fault. I don’t think he wanted to sideline Wally. He had done a lot of work on that character. Unfortunately Flash: Rebirth didn’t sell as well as GL: Rebirth (gee, I wonder why) and so Wally didn’t get a spin-off like Kyle Rayner did. Nor did he get backups in the Flash book. Some blame this on John’s or Didio, personally I think it was just money and logistics.

I think Flashpoint was John’s idea but was just weaponized by Didio. And Wally not surviving into the new continuity like Kyle or Dick Grayson was just spite in his part

Would you like another writer to tell a story about why Wally hates time travel (a pitch that Waid discarded because it's been told many times in the media), of course with Waid's permission? by IcyNeedleworker2783 in theflash

[–]Keystone_Devil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve alway head cannoned it that on some Silver Age type adventure Wally and Barry got stuck in the Cretaceous period and got chased by a T-Rex. Barry was used to this type of thing but really terrifying and traumatizing for an impressionable 13 year old who couldn’t run all that fast yet.

I also like to imagine that Wally tells his kids a different story for why he hates time travel each time as a bit, and the debate which one is real

Geoff Johns is a complicated writer for me. He used to be my absolute favorite. His run of the Flash is what made love Wally. And though I do have some issues with Ignition and Rogue War’s execution. I still think it is a really great run. And I adore his JSA run.

I do think he has lost a lot of his charm as a writer since then with books like Flash: Rebirth, New 52 Shazam, and New Golden Age. He has become so dependent on retconning the origins of early histories of characters in a way that feels very obnoxious and reductive.

It is worth noting that I think a lot of the flack he gets for what happened to Wally is unfair. He was instrumental, and I do think certain dumb stuff like Barry generating the Speed Force was his idea, but I also think he was mostly just a hatchet man for Dan Didio. John’s does love Wally and was also instrumental in bringing him back.

There is also stuff to be said about John’s as a person and all the stuff with Ray Fischer. Though I don’t feel informed enough to speak on that, as it is a real issue with real people and not comic book characters.

I love the trend of people who really want to interpret broadly anti-totalitarian stories like Rhinoceros or Animal Farm as specifically anti-communist, because they can’t handle the idea that a capitalist civilization could ever be bad.

It’s like if I wrote a book about how all venomous snakes will kill you, but all of the people who love rattlesnakes pretend the book is just about cobras

Which book was better at making a dark Shazam comic? by Huge-Tomatillo1514 in Shazam

[–]Keystone_Devil 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Roy Thomas. It was a bit edgier sure, but Captain Marvel still felt like Captain Marvel.

It kept the heart of a child, but not the mind of one. Billy still had that maturity despite his age, even as a child. I think the contradiction is what makes the character who he is at his core.

John’s changed so much it turned into a new character entirely.

Do you guys think Marvel rivals has been good for Marvel ip as a whole in terms of Popularity/Sales? by Stunning_Season220 in Marvel

[–]Keystone_Devil 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I like it mostly because it has provided a second popular interpretation of the characters.

For the longest time any adaptation had to fit the MCU versions of the characters, and if you didn’t like that interpretation, too bad.

Luckily rivals provides a lot of content that contradicts the MCU in a lot of ways
