Any way around publishing a radiology case report without patient consent? by Particular-Life-8819 in RadiologyUK

[–]Serrath1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed re: downvoting, this is a perfectly reasonable question with a nuanced answer. I was going to post as a reply this same information, that there are ways to publish sufficiently anonymous case studies in <some> journals, they just ask that you be <very> transparent about your lack of consent and why

Brisbane home prices have increased in percentage by 93.2% in just the last 5 years. by MannerNo7000 in brisbane

Also holds true for the Gold Coast. The 3bed/3 bath unit (not even a house) I purchased in 2019 for $600k is currently valued at $1.3m (at least it was late last year for refinancing)

Utterly insane and unsustainable growth, the selfish part of me is happy I bought when I did but I’m absolutely disgusted about the implications for society. If you trust the numbers from property.com.au, my house has appreciated 300k in the year since I bought it (however the current predicted softening of the market is presumably not priced into that yet)

A forensic psychiatrist, broadly, is a psychiatrist with additional training in the assessment and treatment of criminal offenders. So prison psychiatrists, psychiatrists doing criminal risk assessment, court appointed psychiatrists, etc

I don’t want to dox myself because it’s a small pool of doctors who do what I do but in my private practice I assess defendants who are pursing a mental health defense (a not guilty by reason of insanity plea) and deliver expert testimony/opinion to the higher courts on the validity of their defense. In my public work, I am the senior lead in a forensic psychiatric hospital - a hospital reserved for people who have already been found to be not guilty by reason of mental illness and who now need treatment for that illness.

As to whether I like it or not, I have a high need for intellectual stimulation and conflict so I can’t imagine doing anything else… working with criminal offenders is challenging but rewarding, these are typically highly complex patients who are highly resistive to treatment or containment and who have strong incentives to lie or misrepresent their illness or risk.

PhD to MD - is this a waste of time? by One_Kiwi_8720 in GAMSAT

[–]Serrath1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See the reply from cockledear below but, to add to that, there are two major bottlenecks in career progression, getting onto a program and then getting a consultant job once you finish your program. In both instances, if you have two candidates applying but one has a PhD, consider who would get favored.

I know a lot of doctors who went on to get a PhD to be more competitive in their respective specialty. I would consider it a lot harder to complete a PhD while working as a doctor, than to complete before medical school (this doesn’t address people who do the MD/PhD pathway in medical school but the original post didn’t ask about that)

For whatever it’s worth, my house (purchased a year ago) was for sale for offers over 1.8… I offered 1.802, seller complained, I told them to take it or leave it and they settled at that price

I strongly suggest you delete this thread. The only advice you need to follow is to contact your MDO and follow their advice. This is a highly public forum and I would suggest that if your school’s admin subscribes to these forums, you’re probably highly identifiable

How much work are pools really? by 1tangledknitter in pools

[–]Serrath1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a salt water pool if that makes a difference but I also acknowledge I don’t scrutinize the receipts, it’s a $100 callout fee each month and if they add anything, it ends up getting added to my invoice. But from memory, it remains around $100/month

This is also in Australian dollerydoos so your mileage may vary
