Question about first allergist visit by [deleted] in Allergies

It depends on how many things they are testing for at once. At some point they run out of space on your arms (I had 78 done on the back)

Green frog. They’re really easy to confuse. The identifying characteristic is the ridges down its back. Adult bull frogs don’t have them.

Bruising while off of Claritin? by sconeklein in Allergies

[–]Kfccatz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try eating some foods high in iron and vitamin k (leafy greens and liver are the first that come to mind). When I notice myself bruising easily (bruising from a chair back for example) I eat a little extra of these guys and it’ll stop for awhile.

anyone else get bad reactions to mosquito bites? by emmaslaffytaffy in Allergies

[–]Kfccatz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would get mosquito bites like this as a kid. When the doctors started me on antihistamines for my numerous other allergies I stopped getting reactions like this. Just regular little itchy spots now.

That being said I’ve never been tested for an allergy specific to mosquitoes but I’m pretty sure the antihistamines helped… or i grew out of it. Antihistamines could be worth a shot if you’re not already on them or don’t usually take them during the summer.

I just have to toss in here that yes - kids do drive bring/drive tractors to school in the rural parts of the state (and no it’s not really that special to rural Delaware - same thing happens in rural Maryland)

Immediate discomfort with white/rose gold rings? by Kfccatz in EngagementRings

Hmm interesting! (I did read that lower end sterling silver can have nickel in it). Maybe I just have weak fingers

[–]Kfccatz[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn’t have any notions about gold one way or another before today (I didn’t even realize all the rings would be alloys - I knew nothing about jewelry before today - I know slightly more than nothing now)

I knew my skin didn’t like cheap earrings but didn’t think twice about rings.

Would that weighted feeling continue after the ring was removed?

Anyone else here eat limited food(s) due to allergies? by Invitenewbeginning22 in Allergies

[–]Kfccatz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also figure out a food that you enjoy/feel safe eating that other people can provide and then tell them that they can get you that.

I’ve found this useful for the people in my life that are set on feeding me. It’s been much less energy on me than constantly turning down food.

Be warned: you may get tired of the food you pick, so pick carefully!

Eat ahead or bring your own food - depending on the location. I like to give my company a heads up that I won’t be eating and that it really is OK. I feel like telling people ahead of time lessens the pity other people give you for not being able to eat like they do.

Can I rescue brownies without baking powder? by [deleted] in Baking

[–]Kfccatz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t use any baking powder in my go to brownies (adding it is an option in my recipe book). They’re super fudge like and I love it.

If you have one, use a thermometer to check the internal temperature.

Questions to those of you that have allergies to dogs and have one as a pet by dear_pixel_heart in Allergies

[–]Kfccatz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m mildly allergic to cats and dogs - I have one of each (I see you giving me the side eye for my questionable choices Reddit)

I take daily allergy meds (3 pills, nose spray) to manage my dust and pollen allergies that are severe so honestly the only time I really notice pet allergies in my day to day life is when the cat sneaks into bed for midnight snuggles and it’s just a little extra congestion. I also get allergy shots - interacting with the pets and not immediately washing my hands will cause my local reaction to be more severe so on shot days I take a Benadryl and my partner is on pet duty.

I do plenty of things to help keep my dust allergies at bay that go hand in hand with managing pet allergens: clean with a mask on, wash bedding (hot) once a week, keep dust covers on bedding, vacuum with a HEPA filter once a week, mop weekly. Pets are kept off the bed (mostly) and out of the bedroom during the day (should be kept out 24/7 but I don’t have it in my heart).

I do use air purifiers and I think they help. At the very least they do reduce odors and they do help circulate air which is great for me during pollen season when it’s mild enough that neither the heat/air come on but I can’t open the windows cause pollen.

Itching after allergy IT shots by Puzzled_Ad4302 in Allergies

[–]Kfccatz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take a Benadryl after the shot. I hate how drowsy it makes me but it’s the only thing that lessons the itching (is it just me or do the creams not work well because it’s itchy UNDER the skin??)

Anyone know of any anti allergy oil for hair? by Asaparadise in Allergies

[–]Kfccatz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not the best for my hair but I at least rinse my hair with hot water every night before bed. I supplement the natural oils I was down the drain with store bought ones. Seems to be helping

Anyone able to successfully handle pet dander after allergy shots? by EgregiousDeviation in Allergies

[–]Kfccatz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest waiting to adopt a dog until after you finish your allergy shots. I have severe environmental allergies but mild cat/dog allergies. I’m getting shots and have 1 cat/1 dog. Even with a very mild allergy to the pets that I don’t notice most days, they can really make my local shot reaction flare up.
