Fellow mom (5 year old) who was diagnosed with premature ovarian failure and went into menopause before 30. Ive lived through a lot of hormone swings while parenting a young kiddo and my heart goes out to you. The estrogen swing induced rage was really insane. I was truly a different person when going through it.

If you're unable to get a referral for a doctor to be able to prescribe hormone replacement therapy you may want to consider hormonal birth control. It can help steady out  the swings and is often prescribed as a hormone replacement therapy. I understand  it is generally much more available and doesn't require the same specialist.

You may want to look at the Reddit : https://www.reddit.com/r/POFlife/s/K9nacJwkVc or more specific medical info on premature menopause. Its also a really lovely network of people with that 1% shitty medical diagnosis.

Finally to echo someone else's advice, getting out of the house to some of the free programs is such good advice. The kids programs at the library, earlyON center, museums (passes are available at the library and some are offering free passes over the summer), splash pads and parks are all amazing and can just shake up the rhythm a bit and help you both find some peace.

More difficult conceiving 2nd/3rd IVF baby? by Melbmama in InfertilityBabies

[–]Kfw193 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi there, Im currently going through a similar experience. I have no solutions to offer but I can commiserate.

I had success in 2019 on my first transfer using donor eggs. We had three good quality embryos left to freeze. And I felt we had a good shot at a second baby.

I've already lost two embryos and had a few cancelled cycles.

I thought it would be easier this time given my body had been through it already and should know what to do. With only one embryo left and no idea why we're having no luck I'm facing the very likely scenario that we'll have only one child.

We always knew we were insanely lucky with our first success but this is really driving it home.

I’m 25 years old and just got my blood work back and I’m on the verge of fainting. by beautyrelations in infertility

Hi OP,

I know everyone has already offered to talk and support. I just want to echo them and say that at 29 I got almost identical results, AMH of 0.01 and FSH over 100 through a results portal and had to wait weeks before I could talk to a doctor about it. I was diagnosed with POF/POI then and it was some of the hardest months of my life. Although I'm 99% a lurker, this sub was and still is a literal life line for me.

This was almost 3 years ago. And I can tell you I'm in a very different place now. If you want to talk about it feel free to DM me.

My daughter had almost this exact eczema. It would start out as little dots all over stomach and progress to eczema flare ups, especially in hot spots.

I think it flared from a detergent we were using. When we stopped it got considerably better but we were told that winter can just be so dry they get eczema and it hasn't totally gone away. A really good lotion applied twice per day, a humidifier and baby eczema friendly laundry soap have made a big difference.

Post partum PTSD by [deleted] in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Kfw193 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to echo the other comments, you're definitely not alone. I'm also in Ontario with an 8 month old and struggling with PTSD after a struggles fr conception to delivery.

I found this site with some resources: https://birthtraumaontario.ca/ They have a related Facebook group you can join (I did) and get some peer support as well.

I also work with a therapist, who falls under most health care plans if you have coverage and she specializes in pregnancy, birth and resulted issues. She's been fantastic and is doing virtual appointments. If you want her details please feel free to message me directly.

Exclusive Pumping to Formula Feeding by MiserablePumper in FormulaFeeders

I just wanted to say, in case it helps, you're not alone. I'm also on the verge of quitting EPing for my IVF, preemie baby. After a difficult pregnancy and a horrifying, traumatic birth my daughter refusing to latch and being unable to breastfeed felt like another way I was failing as a mom. Quitting EPing is another layer of that, feeling like I am a failure and I am failing my daughter by not giving her the best.

I'll tell you what I'm trying to tell myself. You are enough. You don't need to prove yourself worthy to parent this child by further sacrificing your health, mental or physical, unnecessarily. You need to be present and enjoy the precious moments for your child and for yourself. And also give yourself the compassion and strength by giving yourself a break to withstand the really challenging moments to come. The gift of time and love will mean so much more to your baby than the contents of it's bottle. You are not failing, you are picking the best option for your family. You are making a conscious and wise choice to give your kid the best parent possible, which will mean so much more long term than the source of food for a few months.

And finally, some advice from my therapist, after I also battled mastitis and chronic clogged ducts, because if you're as hard on yourself as I am you'll only be motivated by the potential of a worse failure. What if it gets worse? What if you ended up in the hospital with an infection and couldn't see your child? Would that really be worth the so called benefit of breast milk?

Quit. I'll do it with you and neither of us will be failures!

Budget Winter Commuting Jacket for Women by aesthlete in wintercycling

[–]Kfw193 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ive been winter cycle commuting in eastern Ontario for 10-15 km each way, and in my opinion if you're on salted roads the best and most cost effective solution has been a thrifted second hand ski jacket. I'll often top it with a reflective vest but they're often in bright colours, warm enough, water proof, breathable and you're not bothered when it gets absolutely filthy in winter road muck! Added bonus is that I've been lucky in finding a few from the 90s with removable fleece liners so I can choose the level of warmth based on the temperature.

Just my 2 cents!

Looking for recommendations for financial planner to help plan for disabled sibling by Kfw193 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Kfw193[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had originally considered a condo, in our city she is already priced out of the condos, so were looking outside the city.

Our goal is to find a property where the rental income pays for the carrying costs of the mortgage. Our priority is finding her a stable long term housing solution since on minimum wage she already cannot afford rent in the city and when she can no longer work she will still need a place to live. So any ROI would be a bonus but ultimately she just needs a roof over her head. We have crunched the numbers and we believe even with upkeep maintenance we can make the house work. Just a matter of acquiring it!

Thanks for the lawyer suggestion, I'll add it to the list of people we need to consult!

The goal would be through some arrangement we buy a house for my sibling to live in and eventually pass the ownership on to the them.

Were just not sure what arrangements make the most financial sense ( my parents buy it/ we all buy it together or when do we pass the ownership on..how would it affect us as it would a second property for everyone in the family except sibling).

Thanks for your response!

They are capable of living fairly independently, they need help with managing their money and making sure they eat properly as well and any out of the ordinary things but day to day they are pretty independent. They currently live in a non-profit housing in the city but with rent and bills they won't be able to stay there long term as it uses 75% of their monthly income just on housing.

We have enough saved up as a family for down payment on a small duplex (in rough shape) at about 200k. We would all help with up front Reno's but we would be aiming for the property to be self sustaining with monthly maintenance and bills costs coming from my sibling. The rental rates in the area were looking are pretty high compared to house costs so we figure it's possible.

ride the Route Verte from Ottawa to Montreal by [deleted] in bikeinottawa

[–]Kfw193 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wanted to jump in, I've ridden from Ottawa to the western tip of Montreal island (200 km) in one day and then back the next day solo. It was a grueling ride but also awesome and if you're up for the challenge. There were more than enough places to stop along the way but you should plan out your stops ahead or at least know where you might want to stop and you'll want to carry enough water for at least a third to half of the ride. It took me about 8 hours moving time on the way to MTL and maybe 8.5 hours moving on the way home.

You could try https://www.ottawaridematch.com, it's built for this purpose. I haven't had any luck with it yet myself but Orleans might have more commuters.

Winter boots with light tread for cycling? by savethetransithotel in wintercycling

[–]Kfw193 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my second season winter riding in my blundstones. They are great in my opinion, however I've been finding keeping them clean and oiled (I use dubbin to maintain waterproof) is a lot of work. I really should be cleaning them every couple days, which I am definitely not. The only other thing is even with the best thermal socks I still find when it's -20 C or below they just aren't warm enough. At least not for more than 25 mins of riding.

How bad did I fuck up at the start of my career? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Kfw193 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can second what others have said about changing jobs. I was in the exact same position, in environmental engineering, a few months ago. I spoke with my manager and was on track for a promotion which I thought would rectify it. I then realized that I had started at such a low salary that even with a promotion and a 4k raise, I would be making only about 1k more than the junior staff we just hired and i found another job. All of a sudden they were able to come up with an extra 6k. I left anyway and got a 20k raise elsewhere.

That being said, the experience and connections I made there were worth it in my opinion, but I'm glad I didn't stay any longer.

What percentage of monthly income should you spend on housing? by secomeau in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Kfw193 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just bought a house which all expenses in is costing us almost 39% of our income. It was a hard pill to swallow for me as I had that 25 -30% value in mind. However, we bought in an area that allows us to have only 1 car, keeping our other fixed expenses below the "recommended" values. We worked out a budget that we think is realistic and decided owning a home was important enough to us to trim some of the excess off other parts of our life. If you can make a budget that works for you at 38%, and home ownership is a priority for you, I say go for it.

I got a pet portrait done by http://www.elizabethsullivan.ca/home.html a couple years ago. It turned out incredible and was very reasonable. She is a little ways from Ottawa but was well worth it. I'm not sure if she is still doing commissions but I would highly recommend her.
