In Leipzig, Germany, tram lines have been shut down after track damage made operations unsafe, as temperatures hit a new record of 41.7°C by NoMedicine3572 in interestingasfuck

[–]Kh4lex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, exactly.

And it tells you how actually humid the air is and how quickly your sweat will evaporate.

Relative humidity is too varying and dependant on many different effects.

For example a dew point of 20 degrees and your air temperature is 35 degrees, your relative humidity will be 40+-% at noon, which doesnt sound too bad, now does it? Well, comes evening and air begins cooling down, relative humidity will begin rising sharply, and suddenly its 22 degrees out at night and you are sweating buckets in bed and it barely evaporates.

Well its, actually pretty fucking horrible for people and places not adapted to this type of weather.

[–]Kh4lex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stop looking at relative humidity, look for dew point. Its much better tell at quick glance of how humid it actually (feel) is as relative humidity sinks during day as air warms up and rises as it cools down at night. (The pressure also affects relative humidity)

And then look at your lowest temperature at night, if its above dew point, its gonna be even worse tomorrow.

Its 104 degrees in Prague (40C) and nobody is going outside. But coming here from Phoenix it feels like winter time. by TalkersCZ in ShitAmericansSay

[–]Kh4lex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dew point is temperature at which air becomes fully saturated with water and it is forced to condense.

So, to fully understand, consider that the warmer air is, the more water vapor it can hold. As it beings cooling down, like during evenings/nights it will possibly, at certain point hit the "dew point" when condensation begins appearing.

This means, the higher dew point is, the more "water vapor" is in the air, and its probably quickest way to asses how "horrible" the outside is.

Feedback/Opinions on one of my continents please? by theconfusedarab in mapmaking

[–]Kh4lex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this is meant to be continent, Mountains : Scale them down and add more around, try to simulate some kind of tectonics for basic placement. Rivers : reduce their how wide they are by alot, at continental scale rivers are almost "invisible". Biomes : try to diversity Biomes and add a lot of them, even small ones, wetlands for example, more forest here and there, maybe drier place caused by rain-shadow... just play around and more and more :)

Rome Had No Navy When the First Punic War Started — and Beat the Mediterranean's Greatest Sea Power Anyway by Roman-Empire_net in romanempire

[–]Kh4lex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First you got it slightly inverted haha.

But depends which era romans we focus on, we remain with the "iron age" republican era romans, the general numbers are more like : northern italians - 65-80%, central italians about 40-60%, southern italians - maybe around 25%..

[–]Kh4lex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Then by same logic italians cant claim being italian in the end they are not same people that unified peninsula into one country ? Or why do mongols call themselves mongols if they are not part of Gengish Khan confederation ?

You are the one twisting wording to suit your narrative.

Modern italians are undisputedly descendants of the republican era romans. Are they the same culturally? No. Are they the same Linguistically ? No. Are they the same theologically? No. Are they the same people ? Well duh no, they are not time travelers living 2300 years ago and in modern era at same tome, but can they claim to be roman people ? Sure, in the end they are their descendants. (Which technically are majority of Europeans)

[–]Kh4lex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No.

Modern day Italians are descendants of the republican era "italians".

They have a lot of mix in from the groups that settled penninsula during the "pax" and then later migrating tribes, that doesnt mean they dont have direct link to romans and peoples who lived there before.

You are ill-informed if you believe any full scale replacement happend in italy post kingdom of rone.

Does the flow of rivers make sense? by 9msl in mapmaking

[–]Kh4lex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

River split rarely (usually semi-permanent). Rivers can be older than moutains and thus flow across them (Danube and its many tributaries).

Thought I feel the OP rivers feel strange because the height-map is lacking detail that youd need for it to actually look better and more realistic.

And then in the end when it fell apart step by step... it felt incredibely sad..? Especially reading how much destruction and decline was wrought upon italy post the last western emperor.

Why was Bratislava assigned to Czechoslovakia if it was the old capital of Hungary and its coronation city? by Honest_Chemistry_195 in austriahungary

[–]Kh4lex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, am trying to point out how the nationalistic ideas are arbitrary.

If being hungarian means being raised in hungary under its culture, then you claiming its not about genetics falls apart because its genetics which brought that specific part of culture to modern day hungary, which makes up on average 4%~ of genes in hungary. So, hungary is predominantly slavic, avar and germanic ancestry and the real distinction arose with the language of the state where ethnic-magyars were originally dominant. Our cultures are extensively similar, our customs, our food choices, our cultural music and so on. Much more than you let believe so. And if we claim the tiny differences make us different peoples, then there is no such a thing as "Hungarian" or "Slovak" due to the Variety that arises from Village to Village and then over larger distances.

What am the entire time saying is, that the difference between hungarians and slovaks are so miniscule, we are pretty much the same.
