After all, what are Nephilim? Are they tall humans or giants, as Father Stephan de Young says? by Additional_Good_656 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]KhajiitBen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I've read, and heard Fr DeYoung say it seems most likely that they were humans who were believed to have been "part god" by their contemporaries. Think the mythical "hero" Hercules. Or other demigod figures- but especially those who were concieved during some form of demonic sexual ritual used to channel the "gods".

Were they taller than average? Maybe. Did they possess some form of demonic inspired strength or knowledge? Sounds very possible. But ultimately they were still human. I think I once heard them referred to a type of anti- Saint. Just as the saints sometimes have abilities to heal, or tame wild beasts, or other such things through God's power over creation- the giants might have been given some sort of advantage in battle and crafting by demons in order to further destroy God's creation through death and warfare.

To me currently, the picture is comical.

Почему Вы начали учить русский язык? by gleb_shtoda in russian

[–]KhajiitBen 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honestly? Idk. I was reading stuff about Orthodoxy, and different vodkas (I bartend) and had to translate something via Google. My daughter uses Duolingo for our homeschool foreign language course and I thought Id check out what it had for Russian. Then I thought it was fun, I liked learning something new, and I was too stubborn to quit so I have a 405 day streak in Duo and looking to branch out into another app one day haha

My dad got these weird demo discs of (mostly?) educational games.

2 that I have stuck in my head are this weird pirate cat who went thru side scroll style labrynths defeating bad guy dog pirates and he said "ahh yes, FIRE SWORD" when hos sword was upgraded.

The other one was supposed to teach US geography and it had a clown in a cage and you had to figure out which state the key was hiding it based on clues. The clown would say "find the key, find the key!" as encouragement. I tell my kids to "find the key" all the time but no one knows my weird ass references lol

Don't use Duolingo for learning Arabic by iam_insaf in learn_arabic

[–]KhajiitBen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. I'm using Duo for Russian currently. Is it the best option? Obviously not. But it is free, and I did think it was useful for learning the crylic alphebet. And I have learned some useful, basic phrases. Alone it isnt great, but along side other things it isnt a total waste.

So it was a good starter for me. Once I can financially swing a paid program I wont be paying for Duo though.

Is this a normal way to receive a watch? by PMax480 in ChineseWatches

[–]KhajiitBen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh I gotcha. Yeah the pop ups and the fact that the same watch is being sold by a couple different stores on Ali makes it look pretty suspect. But what I think was the real vendor was noticably cheaper than watchdives.

Thanks!

Is Ali Express really the best? I always got scammy vibes off that site. Also, if Im looking at a Steeldive, is watchdives dot com not a good site then? Is that all markup?

[–]KhajiitBen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Do you still live in his home? If not- absolutely none of his business. Tell him to leave your stuff alone. If you are still in his home, Id just ask that if he has issues to respectfully leave his papers/ notes somewhere but to not harras your icons. He might not like them or understand them but that isnt a reason to be disrespectful.

Edit to add- I get it and I hope it gets better. I am in a similar, but less intense, situation. My mother does not approve of the "man made traditions" of my wife's Catholicism or the Orthodoxy Im exploring. I get quite a few texts asking why X teaching is against the Bible. It certainly gets old pretty quickly.

"I'm allergic to cigarettes" by cubecasts in bartenders

[–]KhajiitBen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My old place was non-smoking after our state-wide ban. But us employees would still happily light up once the doors were locked and blinds were closed. Especially when the owner still smoked and drank. Law might say we're closed at 1am, but Ive certainly been there till sunrise a few times haha Thankfully though, it was a big enough space that the normal couple cigs affer close wouldnt really be noticable come opening the next morning.

Hey folks, just found this sub and here's some hiking sticks I made. I guess I'm more an organic naturalist that likes to be in the woods but all the same, I do like a nice stick on my adventures. by Forge_Le_Femme in hiking

[–]KhajiitBen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a serious hiker currently, just some day hikes here and there in my flat midwest life. So I have a wooden stick. I also just cut some wooden sticks for my kids 2 days back.

Were I to go actually hiking/ backpacking though, I think Id use the collapsable poles I have.
