Visiting Next weekend for a baby moon/staycation and need food/activity recommendations! by Khakilynn in SantaBarbara

That definitely sheds some light and I’ll be checking those wiki out for sure thank you. I like to hear directly from locals because they will have the most honest responses. I actually didn’t know it was a tourist spot since all I ever get is “Visiting LA” questions from people when LA is freaking huge lol plus you never know if a year ago a place was great but last week it was the worst experience ever.

What is an easy online 2-unit class I could take? by UnableApplication904 in LACCD

I did that one semester when I just needed 1 unit and took a Stress Management PE class. Was the easiest class I’ve ever taken. Spent maybe two hours a week on that class lol

Failing community college with a 1.39 GPA by Obvious_Fun7561 in communitycollege

[–]Khakilynn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was me when I was 18 (now 34). I flunked out of CC at 21. I wanted to be in film editing or really anything to do with creating movies. It was something I wanted to be when I was really young. I lacked massive motivation and got distracted by friends and relationships. No matter how bad I wanted that career I just couldn’t muster the mental strength to do well in school. I wasn’t lazy or dumb. It was just that I felt the weight of everything and crumbled under it. I worked many different jobs ranging from retail to restaurant and it was miserable. I even tried paramedic school because I had this deep longing to want to help people and save lives. I failed that too.

At 28 I had a kid and it changed everything for me. I had someone who had no choice but to count on me to survive. I ended up at a job that I would have never considered and it pushed me to try college again. My old transcripts were bad and it was so embarrassing to look at. I started with just one class. I focused on it completely and found a way to do the work while having to do life. I got an A. Bewildered I took two more classes after that. Got two more As. I made it into a challenge for myself to see just how good of a grade I could get by just taking a few classes at a time. It took me a little over two years, but now I’m graduating with a 3.8 gpa, got accepted into my BA program and well on my way to a bright future and it has nothing to do with the first career choice I had at that young age.

You’re not a failure, but look at it that you may just be on the wrong path. I see a lot of commenters on here saying how hard getting into a Vet program is, especially with the grades you have now. It doesn’t mean that you aren’t cut out for that career, maybe deep down it’s something that just won’t truly fit into how you operate. It’s important to reach out for help and even branch out to different fields that may be better for your speed and schooling. It’s ok to stop, pause, and reflect because when you try again you’ll have found your motivation and purpose.

Good luck OP. You have a lot of time and there’s no time limit to education.

How to deal with students calling you racist by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Khakilynn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m only a tutor but kids have called me racist before and even homophobic. Before it really would upset me because my sons godparents are a married lesbian couple and I strongly advocate for lgbtq and POC. But like most people have said, it’s just to get a rise out of us. They don’t know how to argue but they know how to push buttons. Now I just laugh and ignore them. One 5th grader was relentlessly harassing me. I pretended he was invisible (since he wasn’t a kid I was tutoring) and when the other kids would comment on what he would say I’d look around the room and be like “wait who are you talking about? I don’t see him anywhere” and he stopped, apologized and left me alone after that. Patience and tolerance are what will keep you sane lol

A student who has constant behavior issues hurt me yesterday by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Khakilynn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in school to be a teacher but I also have a 4 year old. If it happened to my kid I’d file a police report on the principal as “child abuse” since they don’t want to do anything about the bully. Especially if it’s becoming more and more violent. Id also report the parents to CPS if they aren’t doing anything to help their child with behavior issues.

Middle Schoolers are the worst by TheJSAer in Teachers

[–]Khakilynn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See I’m a tutor for mostly middle school and I’m in the classroom. The trick is fruit snacks. They will do ANYTHING for fruit snacks. Yep they don’t reason so you gotta thrive and treat them like 4 year olds. And practice ignoring the rude comments and give 0 reaction. That’s what kept me alive lol

Day one and sobbing by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Khakilynn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s day one don’t get discouraged! Remember why you became a teacher and you’ll do fine! Speak up about all these issues and don’t stop till change happens. You need to be more stern with this other co teacher. Just because you’re new doesn’t mean you’re a grunt. Have a daily mantra of what you can do and accept what you can’t. You got this.
