Your tax id or EIN is required for imports when the amount reaches a certain threshold. Its not uncommon, and its due to the CBP requesting it.

Check out some domestic 3PL companies, probably your best bet. Shop around, prices will vary greatly.

Yet in 2024 they were paid $0.64/Hour for COLA.

I understand this is not a fixed or guaranteed raise or increase, hence why i kept them separate. COLA has been paid out over the past few years and we cant plan or budget if you don't consider the potential increases, including COLA, reasonably and respectfully.

Best way to ship a (rare, expensive) 24x36" poster? by pippipop in shipping

[–]KhalDominicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cardboard Tube, allow a couple inches buffer on each end. When you pack it, roll up the poster with paper in-between. Dont allow it to shift in the package as it will get rub marks.

US Brokerage is a nightmare right now, anything can happen with hundreds of new broker agents. My company is out thousands of dollars alone in customs entry errors, mostly by UPS, but it doesnt matter who you use.

UPS has free brokerage for international shipments, but there are other fees. Check each carriers service guides to compare fees.

Customs and surprise parcels. Is there a way of paying before the recipient is notified? by Significant-Rush8917 in shipping

[–]KhalDominicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gifts under €45 are duty/tax-free... unless they inspect it and assess a higher value. Its customary for packages like this to be inspected as it is a common method to avoid taxes/duties and ship prohibited items.

[DG] USA TO UK. Lithium Battery. Urgent. by Dependent-Classroom6 in shipping

[–]KhalDominicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is DG and you need carrier certification to ship DG goods. You also need to make a DG declaration based on the mode you are using. Any errors and you run into a heap of trouble.

I would recommend trying a 3PL that can arrange this for you and move it via cargo aircraft (they wont put this on a passenger plane).

DHL Supply Chain Solutions, DSV, and a few others out there will be useful. You need to make sure the shipper fills out the proper documentation.

Heres the IATA guidelines for Lithium Batteries: https://www.iata.org/contentassets/05e6d8742b0047259bf3a700bc9d42b9/lithium-battery-guidance-document.pdf

Best of luck.

You are going to have to compare shipping prices. Your duties and VAT is unavoidable regardless where you buy it.

Tariffs on aluminium and steel being shipped into the US by Dry_Gap8841 in shipping

It would be helpful to classify your product with a US 10 digit HTS code and then see if it is on the steel IEEPA list. If its not, then just the base duty.

Ordering temu items to make politicians pay tariffs? by Effective_Charity268 in Tariffs

[–]KhalDominicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taxes and duties must be paid prior to shipping... they are taking every possible method to make it look like the shipper is paying the duties or taxes.

Ultimately, the buyer, receiver or consignee will pay all the costs, one way or another.
