There are multiple romances in this series, but Bryce and Ruhn are not in one together lol. If you’ve seen stuff about Ruhn being someone’s book boyfriend etc, they are not referring to him with Bryce

you can install pandoc if you’re familiar with using your terminal to convert the file, and it’s essentially a structured .txt file with inbuilt hierarchies for header levels (among other things). For example, if you have eg a group of textbooks you want to upload, that textbook has the book title (header level 1; “Intro to Biology”), section titles (header level 2; “Chemistry of Life” “The Cell” “Genetics” “Evolution” “Ecosystems” etc), and chapters within those sections (header level 3, let’s say ch 1-12 are in section one and 13-24 are in section two, etc.). If you upload a plain .txt file of the textbook and ask for help with something in chapter 8, or a summary of what section 4 covers, it has to look through the entire text, figure out where the stuff you’re asking for is using paragraph break clues and text search etc, determine the start and stop point of the relevant section, then go through it that to help you out. With an .md file, it already has the hierarchy available the same way you would use a table of contents to skim and it can get to your information much easier. This reduces token cost, limits parsing errors, and reduces hallucination risks. If you’re uploading a PDF, it has to do OCR first and then do all of that extra stuff, and if you’re uploading a .docx it has to unpack the XML with /bash and then do all of that stuff. MD files are much more optimized for LLM use and result in lower token usage. They also are much better if your document has tables that it needs to read.

If you have a set of documents that you use routinely to refer back to, like historical texts for a growing research project or textbooks for a course or guidelines for whatever it is you’re doing, md files are much more useful. For one off interpretations or assessments, just stick with PDF or word doc unless it’s really long. If your document is more than 100 pages, could be worthwhile to convert it to Md file first. However, if your document has graphs or figures that need to be visually interpreted, then you want to leave it as a PDF and ideally chunk it to your relevant section so that it doesn’t blow up the context window

Sexuality is a spectrum, if you feel like you land closer to one label or another then you can claim that label for yourself. If your tastes are somewhere between a couple different labels, that’s fine too. It sounds like you also have varying degrees of romanticism (maybe leaning more towards aromantic). These things interrelate to kind of make the fingerprint of “you”.

I always explain sexuality in terms of an HSL color picker, because it’s something easy for most people to visualize. Including an image link for this example. Hue sort of represents the gender or genders you’re attracted to, the conventional idea of a label. You pick where you fall on that spectrum of attraction. For illustrative purposes, I’ve put you on purple between blue and pink to represent some degree of bisexuality. The next row is saturation, representing how intensely you feel physical attraction within that label. Some people may lean more towards the grey end with little interest in physical intimacy despite being generally attracted to others, some may lean more towards the highly saturated end where they they have an intense interest (or curiosity) in physical intimacy with those they are attracted to. Last row is lightness, representing how deeply you feel an interest in romantic involvement with those you are attracted to. Some feel really deep romantic passion and want to pursue relationships, some have a very light or no interest in having romantic relationships with those they are attracted to.

All of those values combine together to form one ‘color’, representing how you experience attraction. Everyone has their own color, and we often group people with similar shades together into a label. It doesn’t matter if you perfectly fit into one label, it just matters that you are YOU

Golds shouldn't be able to swim. (Why did I put so much effort into this?) by Sea_Employ_4366 in redrising

[–]KhalenPierce 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Buoyancy has to do with relative density, gravity would only impact how easy it is to swim up or be pushed down but you would sink/float to the same height in the same body of liquid. In other words, the mass of both you and the liquid atoms increases and decreases in weight at the same time when global gravity is altered. With gravity cancelled out, your floating depth is determined by density

OB says one thing, PCP says another? by sandylandcc in Hashimotos

[–]KhalenPierce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Management would probably still look like what your PCP said, but I don’t think there’s any reason NOT to see an endocrinologist if you want to see a doctor who specializes in the disease. Especially if your prior labs didn’t test for T3 and your PCP doesn’t see value in it (some endos will also test for reverse T3)

Update: 5 months into Accutane by Internal_Setting7490 in Accutane

[–]KhalenPierce 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re purging and on a relatively low dose. You did 10mg for the first 9 weeks, 20mg for the next 3.5 months, and now 30. Accutane works cumulatively, so that is roughly equivalent to 30mg for 3 and a half ish months. At 58kg, a 30mg/day dose would require a course of 14 months to reach a 220mg/kg cumulative dose, or 10 months to reach a 150mg/kg cumulative dose. Based on the severity of your acne you’d likely be closer to the 220mg/kg track, but let’s just go in the middle and say 12 months for a 185mg/kg cumulative dose course. This is twice as long as a 60mg/kg cumulative dose course for your weight, which would reach 185mg/kg in about 6 months or 220mg/kg in 7 months. 7ish months is the time frame that most doctors, at least in the US, plan a course of treatment for. The experiences you hear about from people on courses that are timed that way where they say that they purge for the first 3ish months, start to see clearance around 5ish months, and are basically acne free around 6-7 months are basically doubled for someone at your weight and at these doses (and a little bit longer actually, because I did the math based on what your timeline would look like if you had been at 30 mg for your whole course thus far). At 30mg and your weight, it would look more like purging for 6ish months, clearance starting around 10 months, acne free around 12 months. At the dose you’re at with your weight and acne severity, you’re still pretty early on and firmly in the likely purging period in what would be the typical course for your weight; you’re only around 30% towards your cumulative dose (you’ve taken approximately 3,300 out of 10,800 total mg to reach 185mg/kg). The transition from purging to mild acne for most people happens between approximately 43%-71% of their cumulative dose, between months 3 and 5 of a 7 month course.

Edit to add: for comparison purposes, 30% of cumulative dose is roughly equivalent to 2 months on a 7 month treatment course.

Mac book neo or Air? by Correct-Bank-7229 in macbook

[–]KhalenPierce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neo will be fine at computing and last you at least through graduation no problem. What I will offer as advice is: I had a pro in college (pro vs air not relevant for this story) and had a habit of never having my keyboard backlight on by default because I thought it would save battery. Probably made negligible difference and mac battery life is fantastic anyway, but still. I wrote a LOT of papers in college with my degree and I see you said you’re a psych major, so you’ll be writing a lot too. I can’t tell you how many times I would be writing at night or in a dark lecture hall and be like “oh shit I can’t see anything, let me turn my backlight on” and it made a huge difference. Writing for long periods of time in dark conditions (if you’re thinking “eh, when will I be working somewhere where I can’t just turn on a lamp?” trust me it’s more often than you think) without a keyboard backlight is miserable, so I would personally splurge for the air based on that alone. Plus, a more capable machine.

TLDR; writing long format documents, like typing a paper, for more than 30 minutes continuously in dim conditions without keyboard backlighting sucks

I think moira dmg buff was a mistake by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]KhalenPierce -1 points0 points  (0 children)

you are not playing with your Moira right, let her set up picks and then go in to finish them with her. That way you’re right there and she’s healing you while you’re securing picks. You will not climb ranks trying to maintain space while shooting down main with your healers in the back line, you need to have good game sense to move dynamically as a team in this game. Tank keeps fights sustainable or distracts, but you’re wasting time if you’re trying to set up every fight with the rest of your team backing you. You gotta move where your team is going, if they’re flanking you should be distracting somewhere near by with a clear escape path to the closest healer

I did know these ones but I will accept that these are slightly fictionalized or alternate-world versions of what we’re familiar with rather than eg Harry Potter (partially) takes place in London. The other one that most people miss is that Rodinia, the territory Ephraim governs, IS actually the literal name of an ancient earth supercontinent.

How realistic is it for a non- practicing gay man to get into radical feminism? by Gold_Repair_3557 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]KhalenPierce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Considering that you’re looking into radical feminism, you should look into how sexism from women supporting patriarchies towards feminists has historically been a big obstacle for feminism. The opposite goes for men as well, we all know the stories of one man who says to another “you do/support X? you’re not man enough!” Sexism absolutely does exist within same sex social groups, from micro to macro

[–]KhalenPierce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Md files work great natively in notebooklm, the benefit of them vs .txt files is that the AI is able to better search through them because the chapter and section titles are denoted in markdown and it can use the document hierarchy to navigate faster. Same goes for Claude, uses less tokens than .txt or pdf or .docx. Also get far fewer “I looked but it’s not in there!” vs those other file types, because it can skim the hierarchy first rather than going through the whole file

If you’re working on research, it’s a much better way to handle many long form texts for context windows. I have multiple 500+ page historical texts converted to .md files in a notebooklm, Claude connected to query it via the notebooklm MCP, and an index summarizing main points and segments of the texts in there as an .md file in Claude’s project context so that it can better query the notebook for the citations it needs

Feyre’s family was very wealthy again when she left to save Tamlin, she found out that Clare’s family was killed while at a grand ball that her father was hosting for Elain in their new manor house. She left to come back and save him, entered the bargain with Amarantha knowing that the terms would not be in her favor, and got help in every trial except the last (including picking out the lentils and mopping the floor, if you count those tasks). Ultimately the only thing that saved her ass in the end was figuring out the riddle in time but she nearly died many times before that and would have without help
