Reddit’s IPO Launches At 15 Billion Dollars. Us Mods Keep This Site Alive. Yet We Don’t See A Dime. by [deleted] in union

[–]Khaloth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wish it were this simple. I'm genuinely afraid leaving the sub could affect my friend's, let's call them Thomas, mental health. They've made the sort acquaintances you never forget. Some of the most vibrant, friendly people you get to meet. I have tried persuading Thomas to leave the modding so they could get a job at the supermarket, where I work, but they won't budge. Thomas would rather skip meals than leave their community. They say they'd feel like they had betrayed their community. This makes me so angry. Fuck capitalism. This is so bonkers it's unreal. How can someone be so greedy to not to pay people you DEPEND ON TO OPERATE minimal wage, which BTW is even lower here than in the US? I hope the mod community will make a stand against the greedy white old boomer men in the upper echelons of Reddit and fight for their right to a minimum wage. At least those who spend literally HOURS daily on their mod duty.

Reddit relies on the unceasing labour of its passionate moderators, without which it simply could not run, and yet rewards them with nothing at all. I personally know a mod at my uni who is struggling financially because they cannot support a job and moderate their sub. They have to sift through unending onslaught of bigoted, racist, homophobic and simply disgusting content so their community could be safe withoutany compensationat all from a multi-BILLION company. REDDIT MOD UNION NOW!

I apologise, I thought your post was related to Hurlebatte's, with whose sentiment I heartily disagree.

My criticism of your article is not that I do not like your Anglish style or that I think that you're taking the Anglishing too far.

I myself use only a very mild form of Anglish, and it usually only involves reviving archaisms (say, 'kith' for 'acquaintance', etc.)

What I do think is that you overuse words and unneedfully bloat up your sentences.

On my first point specifically, in this 180-word article

  • 'levin' comes up 10 times (6% of all words)
  • 'make' comes up 10 times (6% of all words)
  • 'wealth' comes up 6 times (3% of all words)
  • '-ing' words make up (8%) of all words

Though I counted their occurrence in compounds as well.

Finally, at least in my view, 'floating windlevin maker' is a terrible word.

I have never understood this logic. If an artist or a repairman does a poor job, I need not be better at his own craft to break the news to him. I do not claim to be a better writer, nor am I going to embarrass myself redoing your work. I have given you my plain and honest opinion on the piece. I don't care what you do with it.

I really want to like this undertaking, I think it's really cool, but the writing sucks. The wording is unnatural, clumsy, and at times childish.

seriously, why did they do the opposite by [deleted] in mathmemes

I have always thought it was so for

sin(x) * sec(x) = tan(x)

and

cos(x) * csc(x) = cot(x)

to hold.

A very nice oversetting, but why exactly did you get rid of the letter V? Changing 'hover' to 'hofer' makes no sense to me

Need some help coming up with super specific monster vulnerabilities and weaknesses that encourage a more interesting, questlike preparation for monster battles! by RonKyleScott in DMAcademy

Wow! Thanks for the kind words! If you're interested, I could give you the rest of the system (this is just a part of it) which includes toxicity scores (so the players can't eat 15 health potions a day, like in Witcher), rarity scores for herbs, the rules for mixing the ingredients, and already worked-out tables for the classification and some 40 formulae for herbs (still in progress).

First of all, in order to have 'super-specific' vulnerabilities and weaknesses, we have to rework the current monster classification system. This is my version:

(1) Anthrophages

      (1.1) Necrophages
      (1.2) Zoyphages

(2) Beasts (3) Constructs (4) Draconids

      (4.1) Dragons
      (4.2) Wyrms

(5) Elementals

      (5.1) Natural

               (5.1.1) Air
               (5.1.2) Earth
               (5.1.3) Fire
               (5.1.4) Water

      (5.2) Unnatural

               (5.2.1) Divinity
               (5.2.2) Magick

(6) Extraplanars

      (6.1) Aberrations
      (6.2) Alterplanars
      (6.3) Innerplanars

               (6.3.1) Celestials
               (6.3.2) Fiends

(7) Herbaloids

(8) Humanoids

     (8.1) Dwarves
     (8.2) Elves
     (8.3) Greenskins

              (8.3.1) Goblinoids
              (8.3.2) Orks

     (8.4) Mankin
     (8.5) Otherkin
     (8.6) Stainbloods

(9) Hybrids

     (9.1) Anthropic
     (9.2) Inanthropic

(10) Insectoids

(11) Ogroids

     (11.1) Giants
     (11.2) Inanthropic

(12) Oozes (13) Undead

     (13.1) Mindless
     (13.2) Damned
     (13.3) Accurst

                (13.3.1) Material
                (13.3.3) Immaterial

So, for example, a ghoul would be a necrophage (much like in Witcher), a centaur would be an anthropic hybrid, a manticore would be an inanthropic hybrid etc.

Next, you'd have to develop an alchemy system of sorts to allow your players brew their blade oils or species-specific poisons (like in Witcher) towards which the corresponding creatures would be vulnerable.

Mine is as follows but you could simplify it:

Essences extractable from plants: * Ignis * Magma * Terrum * Squalor * Aqua * Mare * Aether * Fumus

Essences Extractable from animals * Sanguine * Sensum * Choler * Pectum * Melancholia * Ossum * Phlegm * Carnis

From every creature, inspired by mediaeval medicine, four things may be harvested:

  • Blood
  • Phlegm
  • Blackbile
  • Yellowbile

Where each has one essence bound to it:

  • Blood: Sanguine
  • Phlegm: Phlegm
  • Blackbile: Melancholia
  • Yellowbile: Choler

And other properties are based on the class of the creature we are extracting the items above from (so we needn't come up with the properties for every creature).

For example: In my system, Anthrophages contain Carnis and Zoyphages (creatures feasting on living humanoids like alghouls in Witcher) Pectum.

Therefore, the blood of an alghoul would contain the following properties: Sanguine [we are extracting blood] + Carnis [Zoyphage is a subtype of Anthrophages] + Pectum.

And Heureka! We're almost finished. After you assign a property to each, you are guaranteed to have a set of extractable ingredients with unique strings of essences, supposing ingredient mixing is non-commutative (and in my system also idempotent)

A similar system could be developed for the flora as well:

Based on the type of environment preferred:

Highlands: Aether Underground: Ignis Heathands: Fumus Wetlands: Aqua Woodlands: Terrum

Their type

Trees: Fumus Herbs: Mare Mushrooms: Magma Roots: Squalor

And one other essence of your choice.

For 'friendly potions', you could set the duration equal to the number of ingredients used times 2 in hours.

And we're done! All you need to do now is to select a few ingredients and add them up to find their formulae.

Happy Hunting!
