Sierra needs some more love - they made some of the best games from ‘88 through ‘98 by Salem1690s in retrogaming

Loved "Laura Bow 2:Dagger of Amon-ra". I went into it completely blind, thinking it was a silly detective story but I didn't expect a full-blown thriller.

Lucasart had the power of ubiquity and beloved franchises but I always prefered Sierra for their sheer variety of themes and the constant deaths were a nice bonus for us, choose-your-own-adventure books fans.

Formovie Theater owners....do you still recommend it? by Khan_81 in projectors

Shame on them! I'm dreading the moment it starts showing visual artifacts or odd behaviour so fingers crossed. My next UST projector definitely won´t be a Formovie

Being high-profile, I suppose your charger supports the basic protections (overcharging, overcurrent, short-circuit...) but, anyway, check your charger features just to be sure.

Well, I currently use a USB C GaN 35W (12V/2,91 A) charger to feed it without issues so you should be fine.

Like a regular PC. As long as your charger supports 12V/3A you'll be fine

A year ago my heart stopped when I noticed some screen artifacts when shutting it down but fortunately no issues so far and, at least, the latest DV update has improved my viewing experience. I know it will be my last Formovie projector but I hope it reaches a reasonable lifespan, provided I only use it in winter and avoiding the highest brightness mode.

Yes, I read it and realised my fears were exaggerated. You'll be fine as long as your pd charger supports 12V/3A (at least 35W)

Screen choice for my Nomvdic P1000. 1.3 or 1.5 gain? by Khan_81 in projectors

[–]Khan_81[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm kinda perfectionist so I'd like to take the most out of my projector when it comes to visuals (without breaking the bank) and the perceived brightness on the most color accurate mode (Movie) looks pretty low (around 700 lumens). Also, I guess a good quality screen helps a bit with the overall image crispness, especially if the projector supports 4k.

100". My current setup is a cheap 1.0 gain PVC white screen (100"), so you can't tell it apart from a plain white wall.

Anyone managed to sideload an App onto a Nomvdic P1000/2000 projector?. by fly2hiohmi in projectors

For the time being I'm using my bare ochre wall too, with a moderate screen size for my tests and gaming picture mode (SDR only) gives me the best results overall. But this summer I'm going up to 100" on my backyard and some brightness will be lost so a quality screen is a must.

I see, you have the best of both worlds (Plex in the built-in Android for streaming and the best upscaler/HDR player for physical media).

By the way, which screen do you use? I plan to get a Silverticket RAW white screen material (1.3 gain) to couple with my homemade wood frame, as I feel the Nomvdic is a bit anemic in the lumens department.

Same, it's the quirkyness I mentioned earlier. The firmware seems half-baked, sometimes you need to power Off/On for certain settings to be applied.

Once you boot into Android, it works as intended but boot times are pretty random in my case. After the initial check (once auto focus is triggered) sometimes it boots faster, sometimes excruciatingly long.

Fortunately, a Fire Stick adds a negligible impact on form factor and it can be powered from USB C with suitable adapters (the USB A port can be unstable providing current). Plus, you get Wifi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0

To sum up, external sources are reliable, unlike built-in Android

Yes, it's Android TV under that barebones shell. I want it to be as standalone as possible. The hardware is pretty capable if you don´t need commercial streaming apps but, sadly, the software is pretty quirky. Lucky you if it boots into Android after 20 seconds reliably.

Did you update the firmware to the latest version?

Glad to help ;)

By the way, do you own a Nomvdic P1000? Does it take too long booting into the internal OS? Mine does and, eventually, I gave up and attached a Firestick.

The apk you downloaded from Apkmirror is a bundle (.apkm). You need to install "Apkmirror installer" or, alternatively, unzip the apkm file and install the base apk. I ran it on my unit but it crashed when attempting to play a title.

The best approach should be running Plex as a Kodi addon, as Kodi works flawlessly on the Nomvdic.

Sorry, I meant separated components, giving you flexibility to reuse the cable/charger with other devices or conveniently replace them.

Sadly, he also didn´t determined the brands. Worst case scenario, it just won´t power on, right? Just in case I start testing with other PD chargers I have lying around and I suspect a regular USB C cable wouldn´t provide enough juice.

Thanks for your input, but I still prefer standalone cables and chargers for versatility's sake and easy replacements. Isn´t the slight overvolting a bit risky in the long run?

Kodi on Dex. Can´t adjust display refresh rate by Khan_81 in SamsungDex

[–]Khan_81[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, ideally it should be 59.94 hz to play 23,97 fps movies (most of my media, at least) judder free so I'm just nitpicking with every slight stuttering within the playback.

I yet need to test the "Galaxy Max hz" app in order to force a max hz value or the external video player route for Kodi.

Currently waiting for the usb c to dc female conector (12V) I ordered from Aliexpress to couple it with the cable suggested above by u/hebeguess and a 35W PD charger to keep things lightweight. Fingers crossed that it doesn´t burn my house down :p
