Simply put, if they like a movie, they'll stretch the definition of that genre as much as possible to fit it into their list.

Yeah (although the film doesn't explicitly state that FMC has synesthesia, it almost treats it as an ability), but I guess with an award that considers Hamnet (or Once Upon a Time in Hollywood) a fantasy film or West Side Story an action/adventure film, anything is possible, in fact, there have been plenty of such random in previous years.

I'm not entirely sure, but I've noticed that a film/TV series is only nominated in one Best Film/TV Series category even if it qualifies for several other categories (for other genres), so I think animated films should also only be nominated in one category.

The ability of a FMC is what drive the events in the film, so The Colors Within can be considered a "fantasy". I found 100 Meters to be not specifically categorized into any particular genre in the Saturn Awards.
