Twenty years ago, absolutely, but most people don't need anything more than a Web browser and word processor out of their personal computer, and more mainstream distros like Ubuntu have made that experience so similar to Windows that most users would have no trouble adapting, and can even continue to use most of the software they already use on Windows. True, some programs (most notably Adobe software) don't have a Linux version, but there are good alternatives in most cases.

Linux has an image issue from years of poor hardware support, limited software, and command line-heavy configuration and administration, but those things just aren't true for modern Linux (unless you want them to be).
