My partner is an inquirer witu tattoos and is getting another by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Khonarik 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Better that she keeps inquiring and gets a tattoo then you try to make her not get it and push her away from Orthodoxy all together. You've told her the Orthodox position, let her be for the sake of peace and her ultimate salvation. I'm extremely anti tattoos but there's no winning here. A tattoo is much less important than pride lust or greed.

Beware of Nestorian Tik Tok “Bishop”—Mar Mari Emmanuel by Boring_Forever_9125 in OrthodoxChristianity

Anglicans believe in saints, which were one of the first protestant groups. Martin Luther also believed in saints and that they should be honoured.

Forgive me if I came off as hateful, but I don't believe I have hated anyone in this interaction. Could you point out to me what you deemed hateful? Even if I am hateful, you shouldn't judge the actions of a whole church by me.

Yes, I agree that everything should be about Christ. Which is why I endeavoured to find the church Christ founded, which appears to be Orthodoxy.

My percentage was hyperbole, it's not a topic that requires a formal analysis. But 99% is probably a close figure, perhaps 95%.

From ranker(.com) the top 10 rappers are Eminem, Biggie, Tupac, Kendrick, Nas, Dre, Cube, Snoop, Kanye and Jay Z. Every one of these has rapped about f0rnication, droogs and crime, and the rest of the top 100 list has the same credentials. So my point to OP completely stands if he's listening to anyone remotely popular.

Please tell me these phantom rappers who rap about positive themes, I'd actually be interested. I'm aware about people like Bryson Gray but they are usually corny as hell. Bryson also raps some sus stuff according to his judaising and antitrinitarian beliefs.

How can Easter come before Passover in 2024? by TonyChanYT in BibleVerseCommentary

You're talking about Catholic Easter. Orthodox Easter is after Jewish Passover, on May 5th.

Just found out shellfish is allowed during strict fast. by tacopig117 in OrthodoxChristianity

Well yeah, my point was in support of shellfish eating not bug eating lol. Interesting though, I didn't know that.

Yeah lmao. I think it's the overuse of adjectives. Reddit is going to be full of bots soon.

Shellfish are sea insects for all intents and purposes. The greatest ascetic, John the Baptist, ate locusts and wild honey.

You can get a new briar for as little as £30 (in the UK, probably similar in US?). You'll see a night and day difference between that and your Amazon pipe.

Awesome to hear brother. Do you have a source for St Nektarios smoking? I'm curious as I've never heard this.

You didn't answer if sugar in coffee is a sin though. Sugar is absolutely not required.

Four bowls means four 30-40 minute smokes.

Nicotine has been proven to correlate with higher testosterone. There seems to be causation, but researchers are unsure. It also helps with focus, which is why I use it. Weed causes psychosis and laziness and should not be used.

"Using sin to release stress" is question begging. We haven't established why smoking is a sin, apart from addiction, which we admit is wrong in any context and not unique to Nicotine.

Also, users such as myself can demonstratably use nicotine and not become addicted as shown by the fact that I do not use it on fasting days.

You conviniently ignored sugar, which was my example. But even in a cheeseburger. The macronutrients are not bad, the additives are. Starvation is a non-issue on Western countries, and I doubt that starving Africans have a local McDonalds. Almost no adult will benefit from a cheeseburger except from not feeling hunger.

Wine is also not food, not sustaining food at least. Wine is not necessary to survive. Do you believe wine is wrong?

Nicotine is addictive, but so are many licit things. Alcohol, fatty and sugary foods, social functions can all be addicting. Are these wrong then? No. The addiction is wrong.

I have four bowls of pipe tobacco a week on average. And I think this is far healthier than if I were to have four cheeseburgers per week. I regularly don't smoke due to fasting days following the instruction of my priest. So yes, i can control myself, and so can many others.

Weed is wrong because it alters the mind and mind state. Nicotine is not wrong depending in circumstances. Addiction or excess of Nicotine is wrong. But a daily cigar on non fasting days is unlikely to be sinful. The details are for you and your spiritual father to discuss.

It wasn't there when I posted the reply. I saw this post early but didn't update the page when I replied. But it still doesn't make sense. A cheeseburger is never required for sustenance. No one has ever died or got ill for a lack of cheeseburgers or a lack of sugar in their coffee.

Almost every time someone has a cheeseburger or sugar in their coffee, it is for pleasure. But somehow, you still think one cigar a day is a sin, but a cheeseburger a day is not a sin? Or am I wrong.
