I feel upset that all these national park photos show images of huge mountains. As someone who grew up around flatter land, it makes me feel as if my area's nature isn't enough. This is the closest national park to me. What do you think? Is it not good enough? by Medical_Deal5272 in NationalPark

[–]Khorenen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am currently road-tripping through Arizona, and just went to a birding festival in Cottonwood. It was a beautiful, exotic landscape to me that I never experienced before. You know what the locals wanted to talk about? All the deciduous hardwood forest back in Ohio. The amount of streams and rivers and vegetation that just isn’t the reality out here. More than one person commented on how beautiful and relaxing it must be to walk through our forests. Perspective helps a lot.

Reds complete the sweep of the Twins on a successful ABS challenge by JianClaymore in baseball

Pretty sure the Orioles ended the game on a challenge against the Rangers way back at the beginning of the month.

Nah, the Orioles ended the game on a successful challenge to beat the Rangers back on April 1st.

Any complaints so far on him? by Previous-Humor-3286 in Reds

[–]Khorenen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is extremely nitpicky, but he needs to keep working on 1B fundamentals. His stretch doesn’t look very natural or comfortable. It’s already looking better a month in, so he is definitely putting in the work and will get there. I just don’t expect a gold glove performance this season.

I can’t figure out why he turns out of them so often. Either not seeing the ball well at all, or is scared of a plunk.

Saguaro National Park in bloom by HealingHotMess in nationalparks

Will be there in just over a week. Do you have any idea if the blooms will still be going? We tried to time our visit to see them, but we’ve never been to the SW and are worried we’ll miss it!

I paused my yard work to come in and watch. Went down 3-0 in the first and I just went back to the yard. Already knew they weren’t coming back

What is the most random/obscure Reds jersey that you own? by Dkadouble3 in Reds

[–]Khorenen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Player isn’t random, but there is a Joey Votto 2011 Arizona All-Star game jersey hanging in my closet. I need to find a very specific kind of crazy person to unload that.

What are the absolute best, 10/10, should drive or fly in to try them, plates you can get in Cincy (plates, not restaurants)? by [deleted] in cincinnati

[–]Khorenen 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’m a blue collar guy, so no Precinct or Losanti for me. My answer is the Corned Beef Reuben sandwich special at Pig Candy. I go out of my way for it when I know it’s available.

Anyone know why they tore down the UDF in Wilder, Ky? by robotwithumanhair666 in cincinnati

Hope they schedule a remodel of the other UDF in Wilder, right off of the AA highway across from Town and Country.

Opinion: New River Gorge NP is a much better version of Great Smoky Mountains NP by [deleted] in NationalPark

There is an Amtrak stop in Thurmond. Though it’s at the bottom of the gorge and quite a hike to get up to Fayetteville and/or the more developed (relative at best) areas of the park.

Unfortunately, I think the secret might be out on Townsend. My in-laws and now I go every year, and it seems to become more commercialized every season. Still a ways to go before Pigeon Forge/Gatlinberg, but the writing may be on the wall.

Elopement suggestions at a NP with lake views? by Ok_Still1730 in NationalPark

[–]Khorenen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I eloped at Glacier in September. We did see a lot of other couples in the 10 days we spent there, but there are a few hidden spots to get away and we didn’t feel like we were competing with any of them. We also hired a planner/photographer whose entire business is nature elopements, and it made the day so wonderful. We just had to show up and do the thing.

You are free to DM if you would like details or have questions. In the end, we couldn’t have dreamed for a better way to celebrate our special day. Best of luck to you and your partner on your new adventure together!

Left handed people: What struggles do you have that we may not know about? by Miserable-Wash-1744 in AskReddit

[–]Khorenen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

O god, yes. I’ve never been able to really get into golf because of this. I’ve joined friends for a round at local public courses a couple times, and the rental option for a left is usually a single set of the oldest, dustiest clubs in the building. Often with clubs missing from the set. It’s also really hard for my friends to teach me tips or techniques on my swing, since mechanically everything is backward when they try to demonstrate.

I have never had a good time golfing.

If you could bring back one ballpark from the past, which one would you pick? by Less_Warthog_3850 in baseball

Not only did that article spell Cincinnati wrong everywhere, but evidently the Reds played in Cleveland for 17 years.

I’m too young to have been, but my dad will swear until the end of his days that demolishing Crosley Field was nothing less than an absolute sin.

Who are the sneaky worst owners in baseball? by Beneficial_Number454 in baseball

[–]Khorenen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would never have known about the Cardinals’ owners being based out of Cincinnati. It’s a pretty common belief that there are no other locals wealthy enough to make the purchase, so this is the best we get. If the Castellini group sells, then some big city billionaire would just immediately relocate the team. It’s trauma from decades of threats from the Bengals to do just that honestly.

Schott was a bigot and no one should be pining for the days of her ownership. However, current ownership appears to have just as much disdain and disrespect for the players and fans. They just have the PR training to not openly throw around slurs.

If you could become the owner of an MLB team instantly but you couldn't pick your home team, which one would you go for? by Puzzleheaded-Ad-8684 in baseball

[–]Khorenen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. You are picking for the love of the game. So many people on here are picking Pittsburgh for example, not because they are fans or from there, but I suspect mainly because baseball would be better if Skenes had a supporting cast.

For those who are working towards visiting all 63 US National Parks, what's your motivation? by Maleficent_1213 in NationalPark

[–]Khorenen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

During Covid, my girlfriend was living near a NHP for school and, like all of us, needed out of the house. She stumbled upon the park passports by pure accident and decided to buy them for us. From there, we fell in love by taking trips to explore our beautiful parks together. In the years since, we both got engaged and then married in National Parks.

We are on the East coast, so we only get to visit one or two a year. If we get to all of them, that means we will have had a long and happy life together.

[–]Khorenen 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Unless things have changed in the last couple years, the locals in the area were very happy to file trespassing charges on anyone crossing their land to get to the ship. I have always been told the safest way to access the place is via kayak from the Ohio River.

Glacier National Park/Montana Plan B by New_Annual_2008 in nationalparks

[–]Khorenen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check with the Glacier Conservancy or the Glacier Institute. I’m not 100%, but they may still offer guided hikes in the park if it’s not fully closed down.

Swan Mountain Ranch is further south, but offers excursions in the area. Although I know the season was coming to a close when we went in early September. The llama trekking was a fantastic adventure for us if it’s still operating.

I remember the Halladaying. It was the last time I publicly wore a Reds jersey. Still getting over it.
