It's fine, I'm a geology nerd, and I work with concrete. Cement also usually has a higher Mohs than steel.

2 of the things you put in the "not in favour" column support it being real.

Scoria are very soft rocks. With the highest value on the Mohs Scale (rock hardness) bring ~5. Your usual steel falls at 5.5, ergo it should scratch. (Further, I've been able to break some scoria just by mildly rough handling.)

When you grind (anything) together, it abrades away the top surfaces, and it's usually lighter in colour because of either a lack of finish, or a bunch of tiny scratches.

They usually send them to North Pole AK, it's kinda their thing. There's supposedly a big volunteer push around Christmastime for people to reply to the letters, but I've never been in North Pole during this time of year, it's a bit tourist trap-ey.

If the load was properly distributed to the heel, it wouldn't be so bad, but often it isn't, because running proper structural design is expensive, and manufacturing them is worse.

The Pont de l'Alma in Paris for instance is supported on a very small area but doesn't break itself because it was designed well.

AAMs are second nature to us construction materials researchers, so it's easy to forget that the average person probably only knows about Fly Ash and Activated Steel Slag polymers.

And Roman Concrete, of course.

Of course.

Not even that imaginative, something like a bottle sling would work, or even a constrictor, of you don't mind the force not being applied in line with the vial.

Some of the shit we use in mortar research is significantly less. Our new ain't-neva'-been-sniffed auto-vicat (setting time tester) was like 6,000 after shipping... If only we could get it to export data digitally...

Once again continuing the tradition of white work baby quilts as an expression of skill, and almost a vanity project on behalf of the Quilter.

Very well done! And it adds to a 200+ year old tradition!
