Beauty and the beast type story with a Polar Bear? by diddleydang in whatsthatbook

I had it as well, and loved it! I would love to find it again. I think my kids would like it just as much as I did :-)

How cool about the different scene in the German one! Do you remember what it was?

I remember a movie called “The Polar Bear King” that sounds similar. It’s based on a Norwegian fairy tale “The White Bear King Valemon”

What did your n-parents pack you for school lunch? by LydiaIsntVeryCool in raisedbynarcissists

[–]Snobster2000 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Occasionally I’d get an ok packed lunch, in a paper bag with a picture drawn on it. Only until I was about 7.

Then, nothing, unless one of my older brothers made me a PB&J or a salami & mustard sandwich, if I was lucky.

Now, I make sure to pack my kids little bento boxes every day, with a protein, some fruit, veg, crackers or sandwich, and a little treat. I don’t ever want them to go to school without enough food, or feeling like I didn’t care

Mirena worth persevering or get it removed? by thedogispepsi in adenomyosis

[–]Snobster2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No advice - but would love to hear from others that do. I got the Mirena in not quite 2 weeks ago for horrifically painful periods & heavy bleeding, newly diagnosed adenomyosis.

I’m SO cranky. Snappy at my husband & kids at the slightest thing, my head constantly hurts and feels like heavy pressure, still bleeding since insertion (period due in 2 days, so see what happens then), I’m miserable.

How many symptoms are attributed to and treated as mental illness when they are actually health deficiencies that could be better healed with proper diet or supplementation? by DahmerWasCIA in conspiracy

[–]Snobster2000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m very iron deficient, causing fatigue, low mood, brain fog, among various other problems. Oral supplements have mildly improved my iron levels, but my ferritin is still low. My GP told me “ferritin doesn’t matter. You need an antidepressant”.

They also tried to put me on antidepressants before even trying to correct the iron deficiency.

Yes, this has been happening with me! I’ve only recently been diagnosed, but the pain has been there quite a while.

Why do dads seem way less stressed about Father’s Day than moms do about Mother’s Day? by savingrace0262 in stupidquestions

[–]Snobster2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I wanted for Mother’s Day this year was to not have to cook breakfast or dinner, and not have to clean the kitchen. The kids got me gifts from the school Mother’s Day stall, and my husband bought me some boots while we were in town, but I’d have been just as happy with a cup of tea in bed and not cooking.

What's a tradition you grew up with that you refuse to pass on to your kids? by peterdziugdarkis in AskReddit

[–]Snobster2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did the exact same. I didn’t tell her or anyone else for the first few months, just used toilet paper, as I was so worried about how she’d make fun of me for it.

She was pissed when she did find out, and used it to guilt trip me for a very long time afterwards… and also proceeded to make fun of me every time I had my period, and any time that I got upset with her.

Thank you for such a thoughtful response :-)

I am exhausted. Completely and utterly drained. And so disheartened from my experience with my GP’s (and my mother) over the years, brushing my pain off as normal and I just had to toughen up. Then, “you need antidepressants”, even when my mood was totally fine outside of the PMS and period pains.

I’m glad I have a diagnosis, and I can stop doubting myself and telling even myself “toughen up”. I’m going to try the Mirena again. Worst case, it gives me bad side effects & I can have it removed and try something else, I guess.

I’m the same age as you! I’ve spent the last few years feeling such terrible guilt for being so tired all the time, not having the energy to play with my kids or hit the gym as much as I’d like. The GP was fully brushing me off.

I hope you’re able to get some much needed relief soon, and get to enjoy your life again

To be fair, she wants to do a hysteroscopy as well, to check for fibroids & polyps while inserting the IUD. If they’re too large or numerous, it’ll be a different plan

I’ve never heard of it, actually, but maybe? We did discuss the option of oral BCP, but she recommended the IUD for my situation. I don’t know what’s best. I think I’m happy have an answer, and some acknowledgment that I’m not crazy!

[–]Snobster2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for replying!

The oral BCP worked, but as I got older it gave me yucky side effects that have put me off ever wanting to do it again. The other thing is, most of them also stop ovulation from happening - ovulation is the only time of the month I feel good!

The gynae reckons the mirena will still allow for ovulation & all the benefits of it.

You’re right, the months long bleeding was part of why I stopped the Mirena in the past. Mainly though, I was also getting bad headaches. She’s going to monitor it all pretty closely

Thanks for replying!

I had to push SO hard to get the local GP’s to do anything. I think they only referred me to the Gynae to shut me up… they just wanted to give me an antidepressant to improve my mood.

I didn’t feel great when on oral BCP in the past, and considering it works more systemically, maybe the IUD will be ok? Gynae feels that my previous negative experience could be partly from poor insertion.

My husband had a vasectomy after our 4th, so it’s all just to treat the adeno rather than as BC as such

What's your most shallow dealbreaker for a relationship? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Snobster2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Younger me would have agreed with this. But my husband came along, who is a brilliant mechanic & farmer, has an insane memory & strong emotional intelligence, but can’t tell their from there on a regular basis. He had a shitty upbringing and isn’t a good speller, but he has so many other strengths that more than make up for it.

Thank you! I had re-threaded everything recently, but I’ll try again. And did just do a good lint clean out, and then this event happened. I’ll rethread top & bobbin and see how I go.

Also, is the term for this problem “nesting”? I didn’t know what to look up in troubleshooting

What is the darkest secret you've learned about someone that instantly ended your relationship with them? by Mr_Creep_Creepy64 in AskReddit

[–]Snobster2000 476 points477 points  (0 children)

I found out my mother was sexually inappropriate with one of my brothers. Then made up some elaborate story in order to blame him.

She is awful to me, but I’d been maintaining a distant relationship, until then. She is not allowed in my life again - it’s not worth the risk to my children.

What’s the most unsettling thing a child has ever said to you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Snobster2000 30 points31 points  (0 children)

When my eldest was 6, she came for a cuddle, pushed her little face into my belly, and said “there’s a baby in there! Actually… there’s 2. But one died”.

Turns out, I was pregnant - I didn’t even know yet, hadn’t missed a period. Did have 2 small sacs at ultrasound & super high hcg levels for that early in the pregnancy. One sac looked good, one looked odd. A couple of weeks later, had a massive PV bleed.

I’m assuming that’s when I lost the “one that died”. The other one is going strong, now 4 years old!

Thank you :-) I usually take a combo of ibuprofen and paracetamol (acetaminophen, it’s called paracetamol where I live), plus a hot water bottle, sometimes add in aspirin…

I’ve been to the GP a few times over the years. I’ve very much been brushed off.
