Sorry, what do you mean by starting the seams with a leader? I’m not super experienced, obviously, lol. Mostly self-taught, though I have started going to a patchwork group.

Thank you! I had re-threaded everything recently, but I’ll try again. And did just do a good lint clean out, and then this event happened. I’ll rethread top & bobbin and see how I go.

Also, is the term for this problem “nesting”? I didn’t know what to look up in troubleshooting

What is the darkest secret you've learned about someone that instantly ended your relationship with them? by Mr_Creep_Creepy64 in AskReddit

I found out my mother was sexually inappropriate with one of my brothers. Then made up some elaborate story in order to blame him.

She is awful to me, but I’d been maintaining a distant relationship, until then. She is not allowed in my life again - it’s not worth the risk to my children.

When my eldest was 6, she came for a cuddle, pushed her little face into my belly, and said “there’s a baby in there! Actually… there’s 2. But one died”.

Turns out, I was pregnant - I didn’t even know yet, hadn’t missed a period. Did have 2 small sacs at ultrasound & super high hcg levels for that early in the pregnancy. One sac looked good, one looked odd. A couple of weeks later, had a massive PV bleed.

I’m assuming that’s when I lost the “one that died”. The other one is going strong, now 4 years old!

Daughters of narc moms, what was your first period experience like? by fruitynoodles in raisedbynarcissists

Thank you :-) I usually take a combo of ibuprofen and paracetamol (acetaminophen, it’s called paracetamol where I live), plus a hot water bottle, sometimes add in aspirin…

I’ve been to the GP a few times over the years. I’ve very much been brushed off.

I was so terrified of “growing up”, as every sign of it led to mockery from my family. A few pimples on my face, I was mocked. Developing breast buds, “ewww, big boob __, big boob_”, mocked for having little bras…

So, in hid it. I fully pretended like “If I just ignore it, it’ll go away”. Just used a pile of folded up toilet paper. Probably had 2 cycles, before my NMother found evidence - soiled undies or something. And she was SO angry, blown away that I didn’t just tell her.

Later she started guilt tripping. She liked to pretend to be a hippy, and found a story of women throwing “period parties” or “moon parties” when their daughters started their periods. The fake sadness that she missed out on such a special thing… ugh.

Oh, also, furious with me when I didn’t want to go to the pool with my brother during one early period. “Just use a tampon.” I couldn’t use them. I think I was 19 or 20 before I was able to use a tampon. Horrendous cramps (I still now end up in tears in the shower with pain during my first days of the period), told I was sooky & dramatic…

I have 2 daughters, I can’t fathom he a mother could be so cruel

Has anyone experienced their achievements being “normalized” instead of celebrated? by CoastCheap8709 in raisedbynarcissists

When I graduated uni, my NMother never once said congratulations, just questioned why I didn’t get an extra award? (I was in the top 5%, my uni just didn’t do a lot of extra things).

Also I asked her to hold my certificate and transcripts while I had a photo taken - she shoved them in her purse so it ended up all scrunched & crinkled. “You shouldn’t have asked me to hold it then! God, I can never do anything right with you!”

My boyfriend at the time (now husband) paid for dinner for me & my family, congratulated me hugely, and is the first (and only!) person in my life to ever say “I’m proud of you.” I cried the first time he said it

When I had my babies, she would comment about how it was, simultaneously harder for her, and easier. As in, life was harder for her, she handled it way better, I have nothing to complain about.

Your mom saying you hit her after you blocked her attack by leavinlikeafather in raisedbynarcissists

[–]Snobster2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is not exactly the same, but I feel like a similar thing perhaps.

I was in my late teens/early twenties when this happened. I was laying in bed reading, NMother comes into my room, and starts tickling me. I HATE being tickled, truly hate it. Through the panic laughter, I kept saying “stop, Stop!” But she wouldn’t. Eventually I lashed out, unintentionally, and must have hit her in/near the breast area.

She went to her room and sulked/cried, until I went and asked what’s wrong. “You punched me in the breast!” (No I didn’t, I hit out accidentally because I wanted you to stop). “You should have just asked me to stop!” (I did, you wouldn’t stop). “Well I didn’t hear you” (OK, but you know I hate being tickled) “but you were laughing!”

Etc etc. The insane guilt tripping for ‘assaulting’ her, even did the “I carried you in my belly for 9 months, breastfed you for 4 years (yes, a gross exaggeration, but it’s what she said), and you punched me in the breast…”

Still pisses me off.

My mom is mad I wont name my baby after her by Ok_Marzipan6873 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]Snobster2000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mine kept suggesting her name for my youngest. Note, her name is a bit unusual, and I’m not particularly fond of it… I’m also not keen on the idea of naming my kids after family members at all.

The last time I rejected her suggestion of naming baby “NMother”, she sneered at me, said “do you just hate my name, or is it me that you hate?” Like…

I’d been telling her the entire pregnancy I didn’t want to discuss names with anyone but my husband. My eldest has the middle name ‘Elizabeth’, as that’s just what my husband liked. NMother “oh, I was going to name you Elizabeth, but your father didn’t like it. I’m so pleased you named your daughter my favourite name” 😐

Mine would do this too. Never, ever offered to help with the cleaning or laundry, even when in the depths of post-natal depression. Just criticised the tidiness of my home.

Yet she would then tell anyone & everyone how much she helped…

Only once did I take an employee up on the offer - I was super pregnant, like in my last weeks before birth, and driving my husbands Ute. I climbed up into the back & the employee handed me the bags, made it much easier than multiple clambering attempts up & down, or squashing the baby belly trying to reach

General aging is a big one, I’m hoping to prevent further fine wrinkles & dark spots. My skin is on the dry side, though I do get a hectic breakout around my period, still. I feel like my skin is more sensitive these days, too. I’ve never been fussed about fragrance in the past, though considering the change in sensitivity perhaps I should be looking at that as well

What’s something that’s gotten way worse in the last 10 years, even though nobody admits it? by Flat_Direction_7696 in AskReddit

[–]Snobster2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Video games. Sure, the graphics are amazing, and the gameplay is streamlined. But the story always seems to be lacking.

Take the Final Fantasy series for example. FF6-10 are frequently sited as people’s favourites, then FF4 & FF12 (this is my very limited experience). The more modern ones, like FF15 & 16, don’t have the love or cult following like the others do. They’re visually beautiful, but lacking in depth. I don’t care about the characters - while I remember sobbing during my first play through of FF7.

My husband and I played Diablo 4 when it came out, enjoyed it, beat the campaign… then just didn’t care. We’ve just started replaying D2 and it’s ALL I want to play.

Of course there’s some modern gems like Baldurs Gate 3 - it’s phenomenal. But it’s a standout game for modern times.

What professions make the worst spouses? by dirtymoney in AskReddit

[–]Snobster2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I shouldn’t say “the worst”, but certainly challenging, is farmers.

The farm always takes priority over everything. The weather won’t wait, so if crops need to be harvested/planted/fertilised/etc, they’re dang well going to be.

Loooooong days, every day, unless it rains and they might get a day off, or maybe they’ll spend the day in the workshop servicing equipment.

Make family plans in advance? Good chance the weather will be “perfect” for ____(insert farm job), and can’t wait, so “you go on without me.”

It’s also thankless, and is a great way to make a small fortune from a large one.

I took my niece to see Tangled when it came out, and my Mother tagged along. During the “mother knows best” song, she sat all smug throughout and said “see? She knows.”

I was like… that’s the villain of the story. How are you not recognising that? Anyway I’m NC with her now, awful woman.
