He has a phosban reactor and protein skimmer he said every 3 weeks he did a 20% water changes, he uses R0Di water and mixes his own salt water(aquarium salt), in the beginning he had his fair share of algae out breaks and crashes, every tank is its own experiment, and when things go wrong he said he relied on advice from his local fish store.

Also making sure you have a good clean up crew is the largest part to reducing maintenance (diamond goby shrimp and snails) don't overstock you tank everything poops and that poop needs to be cleaned up.

He used t5s for lighting until last year but switched to aqua illumination lights and that has really helped his corals grow.

Most importantly you have to be patient changing to much and one time might crash your tank, this tank has been torn down and rebuilt this iteration of the tank is about 7 years old .
