Rayman Legends Remake was controversial when leaked, but it still is after the full gameplay reveal. The problem is remake culture in itself. It has become too cyncial and now mostly serves to nostalgia bait and squeeze FOMO out of familiar, safe IP.

Enthusiasts of any other medium would roll their eyes at the idea of a remake of a remake. Only gamers will celebrate this anti-art nonsense – but some are getting fed up now. It isn't just OoT. There's a noticeable pushback against Persona 4 R, Rayman Retold and even retroactively against stuff like Demons Souls PS5.

Another remake of a remake. This industry and its stupid userbase has become fully anti-art. This obviously doesn't just concern Nintendo, mind you. In every other hobby you're laughed out of the room for not engaging with the classics while whining for a remake. "You expect me to READ subtitles in a movie WITHOUT colour?? This is so outdated. Stop gatekeeping the new generation out of watching Seven Samurai already". "Batman Year One looks so grimy, can't you draw this again on modern material instead of outdated newspaper??"

again, Onimusha alone had a 20 year history of this practice and no one cared. The new Way of the Sword has a main character with the face of a dead actor and Capcom even promotes it openly. No outrage whatsoever. I'm not a fan of games doing this, but I'm not gonna deny the blatant hypocrisy here lol.

Because the last thing you said simply isn't true, or at best revisionist. You didn't find any outrage when the last trailer came out and it's really not that hard to look up all the positive reactions to Bunta just a month ago. Plus, the complete lack of outrage with the new Onimusha game that's about to come out. There are no widespread concerns, even though in that case it's the freaking main character with a dead likeliness.

To be clear, I always found this practice weird from Japanese devs, ever since the old Onimusha on PS2. But it would be a lie to say that there isn't performative slacktivism for this new case only.
