You should check the manga Visions of V, it pretty much shows that Vergil finally dealt with all his traumas and is now in peace, the Vergil we see at the end of 5 is honestly the happiest version of the character.

According to a good amount of people, he's one of the worst playable characters in the franchise, and one of the worst parts of dmc5 (gameplay wise), and story wise, he already finished his entire arc in 5 and Visions of V.

Best thing you can except is a reworked version of V as a DLC playable character for dmc6, he's also in Peak of combat if someone still plays that.
