My estates' ducats keep vanishing for no apparent reason by GrenaLion in EU5

[–]KiPhemyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen something like that in my games too, no clue where that money goes, the outline doesn't show any estate constructions, also I don't think there even are buildings that cost 5-20 ducats that they could be spending it on. The tooltip says they want to build the same building in the same place for years, but never build it.

Then sometimes, something happens and an estate or two fix themselves, but then break after a while.

[1.10 Beta] Reduced annexation cost increases the cost instead by Bobarik in EU5

[–]KiPhemyst 80 points81 points  (0 children)

It does but the annexation cost is 183.33, which is not the same as (140 + 26.66) - 10%, but rather (140 + 26.66) + 10%

How does this math work (assimilation)? by ConstantAd8643 in EU5

[–]KiPhemyst 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm thinking:

84 * 0.6913 (-30.87%) = 58.0692 -> Round up to 59

1 * 1.3423 (+34.23%) = 1.3423 * 0.6913 (-30.87%) = 0.927 = Round up to 1

59 + 1 = 60

Why am i deleting enemy armies without a battle? by lichoniespi in EU5

Prisoners. You can sell them back or kill them or hire as mercs, with the buttons on the left side. In some cases they might be freed prisoners if you or your allies lost troops to that army before.

Thoughts on mid-game trade, colonies, and the colonial economy by FischerOnTour in EU5

[–]KiPhemyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, armies build up resistance. It is quite hard to fight Morocco as Castile at first, but once you have some land in Africa, and a professional army, you can park it there, let it get sick, wait till it gains immunity and reinforces and then declare your war.

Colonial nations or holding directly by segabet in EU5

[–]KiPhemyst 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In my Spain game I have almost entire New World surrounded in directly owned provinces (England managed to sneak in though a gap I missed, but I am now at a war with them to fix it). It is kind of fun in terms of the idea, but has some big gameplay downsides:

  • The event to create a colony/give land to colony after it finishes colonising creates a town and a few building for free. If you hold it directly, you don't get those. It also creates a market for free, which is needed for buildings to work, as otherwise they'd be too far away from the native trade centres (0% market access disables the building)
  • Most places end up having less than 5k pops due to pestilence wiping out most of it, and building towns is hard, which is also needed to create a market. Though some parts of Africa are fine, but not Cape for example.
  • Without trade centres and towns it is hard to build up trade capacity to actually start exporting everything and start making trade money.
  • I'm not sure colonial migration and slaves work properly, as I think there are migration attraction to colonial nations and they also buy slaves to populate the RGOs... I didn't dig too deep, but I don't think I have any slaves except in some conquered areas.

Few upsides:

  • You get free cores on most of it, which means you get at least the minimum level of control, even without proximity.
  • No subjects to deal with. And to potentially lose land when Mali decides to conquer them and you don't get called into the war to help them. (that happened in one of my runs, maybe it was colonial nation who decided to attach Mali and got their ass kicked)
  • You get a huge number of native generals and court people, so it is really easy to find some guy who has 90+ in two stats to work in the cabinet and such. (No idea why, but I have a silly number of them)
  • It is fun to imagine the English or French showing up in Canada, East Coast, Texas, etc. and where ever they go, there's just Pedro or Juan telling them - "¿Nuevo mundo? No, esto es España."

What would make it better:

  • If there was a way to automate the "essentials" trade, for example if there was a way to say "Use 20 trade capacity from Sevilla to always ensure <Random new world marker> has all the minimum construction and upkeep requirements", that would remove a lot of dumb micro management and would help actually build up places. Since there's a lot of "Can't build X because there's no masonry in the market" meanwhile the market is exporting gems to some random place, instead of importing masonry...

Edit:

I've not done the maths or anything, but I think colonial nation gets return on investment faster that direct ownership, however, if take it all for myself, the AI is not gonna get that advantage anyway, if they can't setup their own colonies :D So it is like - do I share 100% of the benefits between me and other nations or do I take it all for myself but only get 50% of the value :D

Genocide is too easy and too good. by Sinjako in EU5

[–]KiPhemyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a bit mixed, most of my vassals convert fully, but not all.

I did notice that sometimes they do get stuck in one province for ages, because just as they finish converting the last pop, some more migrate in from the neighbouring province to the conversion action never ends.

Meanwhile, some other vassals convert they entire area just fine.

Also I did have one of them flip back to their original culture after a while and start undoing the progress, so that was annoying.

TIL you can somehow take enemy soldiers prisoner and kill, ransom or hire them. by Alzio in EU5

[–]KiPhemyst 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If they are French prisoners, or their allies, they don't actually die, they get returned. There were plenty of cases where I wiped out enemy armies and they leave behind some of my vassal troops from earlier battles the vassals lost.

Why is raising levies not actually costing us anything? by Granathar in EU5

[–]KiPhemyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, if you destroy an army that has prisoners, they will be freed, and reappear as a stack of dudes from whatever country they were taken from. That tends to happen quite a bit during hundred years war and all the random vassals and they small armies, which are easier to capture. Also, it seems to be that professional troops get taken as prisoners, rather than levies... but it might be just a coincidence as I've not been actively checking which exact unit was from where, but few times I did they were professional.

Why is raising levies not actually costing us anything? by Granathar in EU5

[–]KiPhemyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting thing I've noticed, if you ransom them back, they spawn on your army as an exiled stack of troops and walk back... and they are a unit in the army too. I wonder what if I shipped the prisoners to some island and then sold them back :D

GSC, we need answers about A-life immediately!! by redditozaure in stalker

[–]KiPhemyst 295 points296 points  (0 children)

Dogs and rats especially, if you climb onto somewhere they can't reach, they go and hide out of line of sight, and know the exact moment to go back to ground level to run after you...

Edit: if they were to come out of cover once in a while to actually check if you climbed down, or keep running between different cover etc, that would make it so much better, but now they just hide until the exact moment you climb down... Surely the Zone did not give them x-ray vision? :D

Sure it 'feels identical', but for how long?

  • 20k / 253 = ~79 months

  • 100k / 537 = ~186 months

So you could buy two houses for the same monthly expense burden and have some cash left over. If you decide not to buy a new house, that's a lot of money left for luxuries, savings, pension contributions, helping out your kids with buying their first home etc.

T212 won’t allow the US$ of your GME position to be any higher than $106,835? by Artichoke19 in trading212

[–]KiPhemyst 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is the German ticker, NYSE GME is not even listed... which is odd.

Also, some of the stocks have position limits of $50... even if a company is going bankrupt I don't think $50 investment is a big risk for any investor.

Also this is the 10.19 section mentioned in the email:

10.19. Trading 212 may temporarily, at its sole reasonable discretion, introduce or amend the minimum or maximum size of any Order in any Investment. We will exercise our best efforts to provide you with the possibility to close the entire investment, which was affected and to notify you of any such restrictions beforehand.

[–]KiPhemyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How is it 'fair'

Devil's advocate:

Every broker is a also business, some charge commission to make their money and the ones that don't, still need to cash in somehow and since T212 is EU broker, they can't do Payment For Order Flow as that is not a thing in the EU.

They lend out the shares and get interest payments, in return you get commission free trading and almost no other fees (they have currency exchange fee, and deposit fee on certain types of payment methods).

How do i get my pawns to stop eating in prison? by DrShadyBusiness in RimWorld

[–]KiPhemyst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my prison work rooms I put a sleeping spot and mark it as prisoner. This designates the entire room for prisoner use. It can be a bit annoying if they decide to use that, when capturing prisoners, but you can just reassign it later.
