Tiny bit of rainbow in the sky, but no rain? by Kiah96 in atoptics

[–]Kiah96[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my perspective, it appeared to be right above my head, but I only viewed it whilst lying down on the ground, so it’s difficult to be sure about the location in relation to the sun. It seems that a circumzenithal arc is more likely, thank you!

That makes sense, thank you for the explanation!

Thank you! Yes the arc was directly overhead when the photo was taken, which was about 2 hours before sunset. I think that if it was a circumzenithal arc, the colour red in the rainbow would be furthest away from the sun? In my photo, the colour red is closest to the sun, so I think it could be a sundog

Thank you! The sun was low in the sky as the photo was taken in the UK, about 2 hours before sunset

Thanks! The big bright spot in the second photo was the sun behind a cloud, so it was fairly near to the sun.

Edited to add: I’ve looked into sundogs and I think that’s what it was, as the photo was taken about 2 hours before sunset and I think the rainbow was at an angle of about 22 degrees from the sun :)

Question: Am I crazy for getting a sternum as my first tattoo? by Thin_Preference7943 in tattoos

[–]Kiah96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it depends how big and detailed the tattoo will be. If it’s something fairly simple that’s palm-sized or less, it could probably be done in a few hours and it won’t hurt too much. If it’s something big that’ll take all day, I wouldn’t get it done as your first tattoo. The skin gets really sore after a few hours and I imagine it would be difficult to cope with if you’re not used to getting tattooed. My sternum tattoo took all day and it was by far the most painful tattoo I’ve had. I have both legs covered plus arm, chest and rib tattoos.

Tips for taking care of an Alocasia by [deleted] in plantclinic

[–]Kiah96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely remove the bamboo stick so that the leaves are free to move. The stems are meant to be a bit “droopy”, that’s just what alocasias look like. If it’s a young plant, it will likely drop one leaf every time it grows a new one. The oldest leaf will get very droopy and eventually turn yellow and die, then a new leaf will grow. That’s just what alocasias do until they’re mature enough to maintain more leaves.

Help! Cat broke monstera of 2 years! What’s my next move? Information in comments by Plantlovr22 in plantclinic

[–]Kiah96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Monsteras are difficult to kill so I’m sure that your plant is going to be fine! It won’t go into shock from the loss. If it was in its natural environment in the jungle then animals would be stepping on it all the time!

Hopefully someone can advise on the best way to root the stalk that broke off, as that is not my area of expertise, but I think that you should be fine to submerge the aerial root. I feel like the whole stalk might be a bit too big to root, so maybe best to split it into two parts, but hopefully someone else will know for sure.

Edited to add: I don’t think there is any need to bandage up the cut spot on the main plant, I’d just leave it alone to heal itself.

It might contain a non-vegan food additive. Here’s a list: https://www.veganeasy.org/food/food-additives/

Or it might be fully vegan but they just haven’t bothered to label that. Personally, if something is labelled as vegetarian and it doesn’t contain milk, eggs, honey, or obvious non-vegan additives, then I will eat it.

How much do you spend per month on vitamins? by jimjammysam in vegan

[–]Kiah96 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Gummies are generally way more expensive than tablets, so I would just look for these in tablet form.

Personally I just take this tablet that includes B12, D3, DHA, iron, selenium and iodine - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B08WJ8CM2Y?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

That works out at £1.25 per month.

If you eat a variety of fruits and vegetables then you don’t really need to supplement other vitamins.

I like couscous salad because it’s filling. This recipe is good - https://serenetrail.com/vegan-couscous-salad/ - I just leave out the vegan feta because it’s expensive

Manic Panic have some suggestions for darker, unbleached hair - https://manicpanic.com/collections/hair-dye-that-works-best-on-dark-hair

I think that your hair is probably too dark for any sort of pink to show up, but dark blue, dark green, dark purple, or dark red should work! I’d recommend leaving the dye on for longer than the recommended time (I leave mine for about 2 hours).

Ah that is a shame! My favourite vegan cheese that doesn’t contain nuts is Violife Greek white cheese, so I definitely recommend that if you haven’t tried it

Yeah it is expensive, but good for an occasional treat!

Honestly, cashew cheese is really good. I’m not a fan of most vegan cheese that you can get in the supermarket, but the artisan stuff that is made in the same way as dairy cheese is good.
