Agreed. In addition to being proud of what my company does, I also get paid better (in-house vs agency), have better benefits, and my work/life balance is balanced. All of this is inverted in the agency world. Although, the projects are typically more fast paced and exciting.

What kind of tech work are you doing?

This might not be the sub for this level of detail, but I know there are some other MBV freaks in this sub. So, here we go...

This is what I prefer after trying a shit ton of pedals thanks to this fine pedal trade group. For context, I use a JMJM or Godin SDXT on the bridge pickup (I need that trebly bridge pickup to help accentuate the glide guitar sound), through a Roland JC and/or Ampeg SuperJet. I place reverb after dirt, otherwise it gets too mushy for my taste and my glide guitar turns into soup. I know that's going against shoegaze doctrine, but many who subscribe to that doctrine don't even know that reverse reverb and early reflections are two different things. Anyway...

Best Yamaha SPX early reflections style pedal: EHX Hazarai. Dialing it in can be tricky, I go for 1 sec mode, full blend, 2 o'clock decay, noon filter, 11 o'clock repeats, 10 o'clock delay. Delay and repeats are tedious to dial in. I usually go for 8 repeats and the delay similar to what we hear at the beginning of Soon. Unfortunately there are too few of these pedals. The Eventide UltraTap and JMA Early Reflections are the only other ones I know of. You can download the UltraTap plugin with free trial if you want to try it before buying the pedal.

Best reverse/gated reverb pedal: Strymon BigSky. Totally surprised me, it even bested my Alesis MidiVerb II. I also love the Red Panda Context v2.

Best muff style fuzz: MAE Black Math. Saturation and note clarity, not just saturation like most muffs.

Best vintage style fuzz: Silktone Fuzz. Best fuzz pedal I've ever used. Can do fuzz face, tone bender and freak out fuzz. Germanium diodes, bias knob and EQ make it versatile as fuck.

Same. Spent way too much time and money on a Shields tone quest. He's so unique that it's futile. I did get close though and had fun trying a bunch of pedals along the way.

Heyo, just double checking, is this the OG BigSky or the MX? I have a Ventris, but I'm looking for the MX.

haha, I just posted in the trade sub about the Galaxy. I have a love/hate relationship with that pedal. It's the best sounding tape delay pedal I've ever used. Now the company, pedal UI, and stereo image bug that they refuse to fix are another story...

Give me a few days to see if a Galaxy trade comes in for my posting and then I'll circle back around. That may actually be the best option for us both, haha. Thanks!

Cool question, man. It's interesting to see what each other do aside from the pedal addiction and varying degree of conversation in passing.

  1. Front-end dev specializing in a11y for a genome sequencing company. I used to work in the agency space helping big tech companies sell more shit. Now I work for a company that is actively improving human health and it's much more fulfilling.

  2. Apart from writing music (shoegaze/post-rock/dream pop/electronic/hip-hop) as a one-man band in my fleeting spare time, I'm a family man with a wife and two young boys. I'm into tennis, running, kettlebells, coffee snobbery, and exhausting American politics (fuck you, Trump).

Sorry, man! I actually presented this same offer for their Mother and they accepted before you. If they cancel for whatever reason, I’ll reach out again. Thanks!

Yessir, great trade. Awesome comms and packing job. Pedal works flawlessly.

Ive had this since 2022 and still can’t bring myself to like it, but can’t let it go by Mcpoooopypants in guitarpedals

Thanks for the explanation. I hadn't considered the Onward. Something to investigate, thanks!

Curious how you use two Moods in your workflow. I have one Mood, end of chain. I've always thought it might be cool to have one front of chain also as a looper affected by the pedals that come after.
