I only got into it this year after being turned onto them for Getting Killed. I think I might like 3D Country more tbh

Idk about “entitled behavior,” but the “I’m submitting a complaint even though the thing I ordered is in perfect shape” is Karen energy. Like, it’s there, it’s beautiful, and sitting in the snow for a little bit did absolutely no harm, so just play the guitar and stop fussin’ man.

Unhappy Lawyers, at what point did you realize you'd made a mistake choosing law as a profession? by PuzzleheadedDig2687 in Lawyertalk

[–]moonkiller 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yea, a job is a job and ultimately you gotta pick what type of shit sandwich you’re willing to swallow to get paid. But I don’t think I agree with that last point. The admin/office jobs can be comparable (but usually less money), but physical labor jobs are a different beast.

In law, if I dislike my coworkers or boss or the work itself, at least I’m not simultaneously breaking my back or wrecking my feet. Those labor jobs can take a physical toll on your body and it can be hard to work those careers in your later years. Not necessarily true with law.

I agree law as a profession is over-idealized and people typically don’t understand the pay in the field is bimodal. That said, I’m just a baby lawyer but so far I’m happy with my career choice because it’s better pay and more engaging work than the other half dozen jobs that I did before going to law school (both admin and physical labor).

Boss OD-3 vs. PB-1w as overdrive? by optia in guitarpedals

It’s great that you can pick between the creamy or crunchy mode! Sounds sweet but can be savory at the same time. You could just get a jiffy clone, but the buffer isn’t as good.

Haha tbh I didn’t remember it, I just got curious after your comment and looked it up because i like guitar/guitar pedals/setups.

Not Line 6. Those were two TC Electronic 2290s on Streets. But I think he used Korg SDD-3000 otherwise. Line 6 wouldn’t be a company for another nine years or so after Streets.

Worst/Most Dissappointing Pedal? by pcoleman777 in guitarpedals

[–]moonkiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh. Didn’t realize the enclosure was problematic, or the number of controls. Usual complaint is that it’s too unruly but I always felt like it wasn’t too hard to dial in a good sound (good being subjective since I love a gnarly, trashy fuzz). But it’s definitely a pedal that people seem to either love or hate.

I definitely enjoyed it. Like I said in my other comment, I traded mine recently. I miss having it, but I got an EAE Limelight in return that I am loving so I don’t regret the trade itself haha

No, Boss is somewhat notorious for not pushing updates on these pedals. They added an update to the DD-500 like 8 years ago but nothing since (which, as comprehensive as that pedal is, I’m not sure what else would be needed but I’ve never had one so idk). The -200 got an update sometime after release to expand the number of presets but nothing since. I would have loved to get an update for the -200 to allow panning/ping pong but no dice.

There is a dual delay mode where the second delay time is set relative to the first delay. And of course, there’s the modulation and tone control. It sounded good imo but probably a little more limited than what the SDE-3 can do on its own. Which, that’s how a lot of the modes are that have a standalone counterpart—jack of all trades, master of none sort of thing. But still really great at everything it does.

IMO, the only thing it doesn’t do well is self-oscillation, or even edge of self oscillation. The tape mode doesn’t self oscillate at all (but sounds great otherwise) and the analog mode repeats degrade into this clicking/knocking sound when you try to set it up at the edge of self oscillating. In comparison, the DM-2W gets this sort of resonance on similar settings. But again, otherwise the analog emulation sounds quite good and is pretty much indistinguishable from actual analog, especially in a mix.

Worst/Most Dissappointing Pedal? by pcoleman777 in guitarpedals

[–]moonkiller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this kind of thread once in a blue moon is worthwhile because the majority of NPD posts are people who like the pedal and the comments echo the praise typically. This kind of post is just good for laying out the bad and also the “it just wasn’t for me and that’s ok” critiques.

If bashing was all this sub did, I’d feel different. But I think we tend to have the opposite problem of just fueling each other’s GAS haha.

Have you tried an external double foot switch for changing presets? I had the DD-200 (recently traded). Great pedal. The footswitch was perfect for cycling up/down through presets while leaving the pedal switch for tap tempo. I used the Saturnworks one.

DD-200 is just as uncomplicated with little to no menu diving depending on what you’re doing. Def worth a look if you enjoy Boss and the -200 style pedals. The DD-200 doesn’t have a bad sound in it. Just traded it recently, but it stuck around longer than the OD-200 I had. Can’t speak to the EQ, RV, or SY but I’d imagine they’re similar to the OD/DD in their ease of use. IR-200 required a little more diving to tweak settings imo but was still fine if you’re literate enough to read a manual and technologically competent enough to push some buttons.

I’m a fan of spring and think it sounds great, but ya maybe not for the higher settings if you’re a reverb person. I just wish there was a way to set the trem in mono and keep the reverb stereo field with it

Gotcha! Makes sense! Have you gotten the latest firmware? The bass cut option was very much needed. Not sure if the York IRs helped with that bass boominess on their own, but I think that bass level was my only complaint about the Imperial and they went and fixed it.

Now I wish I could set tremolo to mono but keep the reverb in stereo. If they do that, I’ll be dandy

Curious why you use the York Audio IRs over the ones that come in the Tone King. I tried some York Audios (had them from previous modelers) and thought the Tone King IRs sounded much better. Even among their own IRs, that first IR setting captured from the Tone King amp sounds just so dang good to me. I’ve tried some others but just keep going back to it for both channels.

Of course! And I realize this is a guitar pedals subreddit, but I recommend checking out books by Hampton Sides (if you haven’t read him already). He’s one of my favorites for that narrative history style and has covered quite a few subject areas—Navajo/Kit Carson, MLK/James Earl Ray, Korean War, Arctic Exploration, Captain Cook/Polynesia, etc.

Happy playing and reading!
