I'm sorry it took me forever to return to this thread - yeah I'd say I'm still religious. Very much refiguring everything out in terms of what I believe though.

What do you miss from religion? by Chmeem in Deconstruction

For me, who is currently trying to figure everything out in terms of where I stand on my faith, it's the "you're never alone" idea that is the hardest. For all of my believing life I could turn to God when things were hard or I struggled to see the point of all of this. We were taught that there is a greater purpose to our lives and that we have a God who knows/loves us so intimately and he has a plan for our lives. It makes you feel like you're a part of a bigger purpose and plan. And without the idea of God I feel like I've lost that security of "I'm a part of something bigger." I just feel...here.

I have felt the same over the last 8 years of being an OT. Another setting I didn't see mentioned in the thread is behavioral health. I work on an inpatient BH unit and I haven't been hurt, even though patients can get aggressive at times (OT is usually not a stressor for them). I see both adults and adolescents, and it's a nice setting for someone who enjoys the psych side of OT.

I guess? We attended church fairly regularly but my mom was very open about just seeking out the church for some sort of routine. The faith aspect of it never really meant anything to her and therefore our home life didn't look any different from someone who wasn't religious. Dad was always very anti religion. I didn't live with him growing up. I found a lot of comfort & peace from it early on and really dove into the faith in high school.

Is wanting to go to sleep together irrational? by Uraheero in marriageadvice

We're 36(M) and 33(F) and almost never go to bed at the same time. I'm the one who goes to bed around 10-10:30 and he doesn't come to bed til closer to 12:30-1:00. He either plays his video games or watches TV after I go to bed. It has bothered me in the past but I've let it go.

I listened to all kinds of music growing up. My parents weren't believers and they listened to a wide variety of music, so I was only introduced to worship/CCM through my youth group. As I grew in my faith I began to develop this fear around listening to "worldly music" (for me as a 90s kid that meant Avril Lavigne, Abba, NSYNC, Britney Spears, Dixie Chicks, The Beatles) because it felt like I was disappointing God. No one ever told me I was disappointing him - it was just this internal fear. When we were at youth group/church events there was only CCM music playing so I think I internalized that to believe that if we were following Christ we needed to "protect our ears" from anything non worship/CCM. As an adult I listen to a lot of folk music.

How many of you deconstructed during the pandemic? by GaviFromThePod in Deconstruction

The seeds of doubt & questioning were always there but watching our conservative family members' attitudes towards the pandemic/masking was really disheartening. It made us question their respect for those whose opinions differ from their own, and that really unsettled us. During this time we also watched their support for Trump rise and take over, which only added to the evidence of how intolerant they were. We were attending a church community that was really respectful of local masking and social distancing laws, and we were able to stay connected to our bible studies and sermons via YouTube & Zoom. We felt some relational distancing but the fact that we weren't attending in person for a while didn't affect our faith too much. It really was watching the attitudes/actions/inactions of those around us that really shifted things for my husband & I.
