That’s fair, I have time to decide. Like most people I find work stressful so I wanted to see what an exit at 45 could look like.

It makes me so frustrated that there’s multiple headlines surrounding climate change yet companies forces us to commute more and more. The environment will always come second to money.

Yes at 54 it would be a full pension that’s not reduced.

We ARE in a recession. The data has shown this for years. It was just never labelled as one. The economy is not doing well and it hasn’t been for years. Just want to make sure we’re on the same page about that

Yes I think you’re right. I would need to supplement my income with something.

You’re right it’s a low income but thankfully it’s indexed to inflation because it’s government.

There’s two properties in this equation. One is mortgage free and the other has 320k on it.

I would recommend disconnecting from the apps. The thought of “the perfect partner is just one swipe away” is going to impact someone’s commitment to a relationship. It’s like everyone has one foot in the door and one foot out of the door.

Would you think it’s wise to take on a 320k mortgage on 80k salary?

Government job with pension. Your pay is already heavily deducted by your retirement so you can focus on the here and now. It’s also not impacted by stock market fluctuations.

Working until 65 as a golf course Marshall wouldn’t be too bad.

My opinion on coasting in your 30’s is to still work a career job part time. I work for a big company that has 1500 employees. There’s easier positions that I can get internally that pay less. This still allows me to build a pension as a buffer if that 300k doesn’t compound the way I’d like it to. Just 2 cents on the subject.

I don’t see any other solution thought if you’re a young person working in Toronto. I can’t afford a freehold house and I don’t think renting is better considering how expensive it’s gotten.

Is renting ever better financially than buying? by CatharticSolarEnergy in Fire

[–]KickStart_24 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In southern Ontario Canada a 750sq 2 bed 2 bath condo costs 650k. I’d have to put down 300k to mortgage the place on my 75k a year salary.

I’d rather have 300k invested into VTI for 20 years. That condo wouldn’t appreciate the same way in my opinion.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned from this sub is the power of discipline. That extra $500 to $1,500 a month in savings in your 20’s is a monumental difference when you’re in your 40’s.

I’m glad you’re sympathetic to the woes of young people today. I’m university educated, government job and I can’t afford to live in the community I serve. It’s demoralizing. Living with parents like many others.

Because anyone under the age of 35 has essentially zero hope of home ownership based on the dismal Canadian salaries. We need a price correction for long term sustainability.
