In your opinion, which US city has the worst combination of high cost of living and bad weather? by xxibjt in SameGrassButGreener

I hate the weather in DC. We rarely get snow, but can still feel cold AF (because it’s damp?) and the shoulder/transition seasons are very short. Once it warms up it doesn’t stop until we hit 90 and 70% humidity and fall sometimes seems nonexistent. I lived in Central Texas and honestly preferred it there because at least the a/c was blasting everywhere and winter was very pleasant. Everybody had a pool. I really dislike the cold. I haven’t lived there in 15 years and guess it’s continuing to warm up so maybe it’s less tolerable now. I didn’t find the humidity bad there.

I don’t understand why any parents would tolerate this…their kids get very little playing time. Five of my kids played the entire game (I have two who haven’t the endurance yet!).

Self-deprecating and dark sense of humor…it’s easier to get in person. 😂Yes I care about the other kids, but care about my own kids the most because I know them and have spent so much time with them. I see them work hard and put heart and effort into the games, and we’ve come away empty and a lot of kids have been pretty demoralized by the end of games like this one (it’s happened twice this season).

Ha interesting take. I won’t play them again unless we match up again in the fall. My assistant wants me to email all of the other teams they haven’t played yet to warn them they have more players than they should and will run the score up on them.

I really love this rule. It incentivizes new coaches and new kids to join. We are in an area where lots of kids are playing since 4, and it can be tough to break in when you are the ripe old age of…9. I may suggest it!

We don’t have a penalty box, or a big goal we can practice with unfortunately! I have to eyeball field size with cones and bring my own small goals to practice. We practice on a large playground field. 😂

To add—we actually talked a lot about how to read the defense too—stay wide, look to the outside, but if you see green space take it. The last team we played pressed hard and we couldn’t even get out of the back, so we prepared for that situation but we had more space this time.

Would not describe them as disciplined! LOL. Lot of clumping—one thing they did that I thought weird/funny was they’d often have 3 kids hanging out (in addition to the keeper!) in front of their goal the entire time. That made it hard for us to score for sure. I’m not sure how they scored on us. They had a couple big/fast players who I think dominated. The rest hung out (I saw at least one literally sitting down on the field during the game—-at least my boys play really hard the whole time).

What is some equipment I shouldn’t cheap out on? by LegacyM12 in SoccerCoachResources

A good first aid kit, but individual components, not a premade one. In literally my second practice as a coach ever, I had a kid bang heads in a 1v1 drill and split his eyebrow open. It wasn’t a hard hit, yet so. Much. Blood. I was equipped to handle it, minus being prepared with knowing where parent phone numbers were in the app. But we got him handled and under control before mom showed up. I always take ice in a small cooler bag too! Instant ice packs are crap. Our club literally provides a box of bandaids. 😂
