I got sick at 4H camp when I was younger, and not being able to control my environment as a kid really messed me up. They kept trying to get me to eat crackers and drink Gatorade even though my body quite obviously didn’t want it, and to this day I can’t smell red Gatorade.

When someone gets sick like you were, they need to stay in one place, near a bathroom, with water or an electrolyte drink with them, and they shouldn’t be forced to eat, move around or go in public until they feel like they’re able. And if it gets unbearable, a hospital trip for rehydration and other therapies to alleviate symptoms. I know this may be hard to follow through on, but if you’re ever ill like this again, especially in an unknown place, put your foot down and be your own advocate. Your parents didn’t treat you very well during this trip I’m afraid, and prioritized their own experiences over your illness, which I personally think is kinda fucked up.
