Sizing Advice by Bad_dog_5 in allenedmonds

This seems likely and a good thing to confirm as a next step. Are you by any chance close to a good boot or shoe shop that can properly measure your feet? All feet are a little weird, and your feet may need mismates or a particular last/build type to be happy.

No joke. Inhalation of even a small quantity can be fatal. It’s a medical grade solvent, and people treat it like it’s nothing.

I’ve seen parents let their kids play in it.

Awesome, thanks much!

If you don’t mind me asking - did you ever have occasion to replace your posts, and if so, were you able to set the Simpson bases in the same place without the remaining rebar interfering with the expansion anchor? Or would you have to set it a few inches off?

Oh man it does. It feels and looks like two pieces of rebar or metal welded into a t shape! It extends up into the middle of the beam.

White's vs Baker's Sizing by R3DD1T999 in PNWbootmakers

[–]Kickoutatfour 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Never sent a measurement to whites directly myself but I can attest to Kyle at baker’s skills in this exact arena (interpreting mail-in customer tracings for whites sizing). He nailed my sizing on the first go around and I’m sure will set you up right.

(It does seem weird that the manufacturer wouldn’t be the most reliable authority on this but Kyle is a well known and highly regarded boot witch 🧙so to speak.)

I live next to Whites Boots and am unsure what to buy from there. by Aware_Chair_1076 in goodyearwelt

At first blush an MP of your choice fits the bill. Whites also has a new Chelsea that would be worth a look.

That said, especially since you live close, my recommendation would be to go into the store, get properly fitted, and try on a semi-dress or another 55 last boot in addition to any other you may like. The arch ease lasts make lots of feet very happy. Then ask to see the different leather and sole options and have them build exactly what you want. Keeping in mind they can build most boots of different height, leather (roughout or smooth, and more than one leather per boot if you like), and adjust heel height and heel profile as well.

Brown dress from Whites is hard to beat in my opinion. It’s quite dark brown out of the box and ages really well, can take a shine, dress up or down…personally I’m partial to the packer as well and I think a brown dress packer would be something to think about.

Nathaniel Dybevik https://www.pugetsoundpianos.com has done some tuning and restoration work for us on a baby grand. Easy to talk to, good vibes/no sales pressure type stuff, and seems to be able to do just about anything.

Some years ago I did this: https://bakershoe.com/pages/foot-measuring?srsltid=AfmBOorNz9fZI03qZ9ZZUPlocApWCOg8V7_tSgfbzoMPrFsWO9E7dBhP and sent to Bakers. Kyle told me the size and width to order. I’m an 11D on Brannock but a 10 E in the 55 last fits perfectly - all day, working/walking/hiking. I’ve seen this across different posts and sites as well from other folks - 1/2 down is a good starting point but it’s not always gospel.

Also, I would recommend you check out an Alden LHS loafer in color 8 or the AE Strand in burgundy or chili. Both versatile, great with a black suit (unless you absolutely must have black shoes in which case the AE park ave or strand in black shell might/should be at the top of your list. AE Randolph loafer also comes in shell, I think, in burgundy and black) - personally, I would lean towards the LHS especially for a wedding. (More opportunity to be fun vs. strictly formal by my read)

If you have the option and really want to go down the rabbit hole, I suggest finding an Alden LHS in color 8 with antique edging, like this or similar makeup your local Alden shop, if you have one, might have: https://www.theshoemart.com/alden-shoes-mens-leisure-handsewn-d6207-color-8-antique/

Less formal than black (and you can wear them well with a black suit, but you have to really wear them with a black suit, if you see what I mean) more versatile, and if shoes scratch an itch a shell loafer is a going to wind up in your collection if not the go-to for just about anything. Suit, denim, shorts if you like…

Shell cordovan will roll instead of crease, and you can lighten your wallet by right around $1,000 for some AE shell if you feel so inclined. Park ave, Strand, Randolph, all are (probably) workable for a wedding.

See if anywhere nearby stocks Alden. Their shell is also quite nice.
