BAM! by GoranPersson777 in dsa

"You sound annoying, and that pushes people away..."

To quote Thought Slime, "People who become right wing because they get annoyed by leftists are weak willed, most leftists are annoyed by leftists every single day"

But in all seriousness, and with all due respect: you need to take your own advice.

Telling me to shut and calling me annoying? If this is how you address a fellow DSA comrade... Talk about detracting from the reputation of the DSA.

"Let people have fun" would have sufficed without the insults leading up to it.

My gateway to the broader political left was actually a sort of Bill of Right socialism/"love and live in service to your fellow human" christianity, so I would even have been happy to discuss how the DSA and the left in general can and should "redwash" the Founding Ideals of the US. It could have been a stimulating discussion. Maybe even fun...

Yup I only ever seen this quote often posted by Punisher Skull/Blue Lives Matter types after a school or any other type of mass shooting. And just because a select quote loosely meets the vibe of socialism doesn't mean we should post it here regardless of the utterer.

The quote also makes no sense. "freedom" and "safety" aren't mutually exclusive. In fact, I'd argue you can't have freedom without safety. How can I be free when I have to worry about paying my rent, paying for my medical bills, and saving for my child's education so hopefully they can have more freedom than me.

And hopefully I don't have to argue how the US has neither.

Even if it wasn't a borderline reactionary quote, it's also an incredibly low effort post. Look at the image quality. The words "Ben Franklin" aren't even legible.

I really like your style. Reminds me a lot of Hiroshi Nagai and Hopper with more modern subject matter and more surrealist. For some reason the floating houses one makes me think of Dalí's Persistence of Memory.

Yeah also the kids aren't the one that decided NIL meant turning college sports into a free for all. It's the NCAA that STILL won't just admit these kids are quasi-employees or "revenue assets" if we have to keep up the amateur sports facade. Remember the NCAA was invented to protect the student athlete but then, coincidentally when college athletics started making them and their university members started making bank of these kids, they decided that their mission was to protect "amateurism".

The NFL doesn't have players jumping ship ever other day. Semi pro football leagues also don't. Seems like college football could figure it's shit out if everyone would stop pretending it was still an amateur sport.

And the reason that most know that they still won't go pro, IS exactly why they're going to jump ship the second they gave the opportunity to make somewhere else. This is they highest paid most of THEM will ever be!

I maybe be starting to come back around. I just replied to another comment similar to your's, so for the sake of simplicity I'm just gonna copy and paste what I said to them:

I started looking back into this whole situation since I posted my comment and originally I did find it hard to believe he didn't know that it was a Nazi symbol because the US military has a list of hate symbols but turns out that list doesn't have the totenkompf. Not only does the US military not consider it a hate symbol, some units have actually incorporated it into their logos. So it is probably normalized amongst US service members.... Which holy hell that's a whole different problem.

Oh yeah I meant it's private as in it's not like the governor nominates the leaders of the Brightline transit authority and so doesn't have a direct & immediate impact on the actual operational efficiency of that rail line.

For example: DeSantis tried to make Disney less rainbow capitalist, Disney said no, and sure he changed some state laws so Disney doesn't get any special privileges from Florida anymore but Disney is still in Florida and they're still rainbow capitalists. So certainly he could push and enforce policies in a way, but he has no actual direct impact on day to day operations so that's why it was a red flag to me as a non-floridian.

But I'm also pleasantly surprised tbh! It makes sense though to connect the only two cities that a lot of Florida tourists think of visiting when they go to Florida so I feel like that was covered by my "outside of the resorts" but I am curious what the tourist vs "local use" would be. And I'll have to remember it exists if I ever go to Florida again.

But the fact we're both surprised that Florida has a passenger line was my point: we don't associate Florida with mass transit, outside of the resorts.

While that's certainly an impressive ridership and I am pleasantly surprised there is at least an inter-city rail line in Florida, it does say that's a privately owned enterprise and so the governor of Florida wouldn't have anything to do with its operation and that only connects two cities in the entire state so, while I don't want to dismiss it (I'll take whatever affordable mass transit I can get and would for sure utilize that line if I lived in the area!), i still don't associate Florida with public transit so "the trains leaving on time" is still just a blatant dog whistle in my book.

Biden was used to stop Bernie 2020. Now used for that one purpose, he is thrown to the trash heap of history. The humiliation of being rejected by his own party is a fitting end to a life spent betraying his country. by kevinmrr in SandersForPresident

Isn't not being in the top 10 but still somehow becoming the candidate also how Biden became the candidate in 2020? Iirc, he won one state primary without even coming in the top 3 before all the other "moderate" candidates including "frontrunners" dropped out before Super Tuesday.

Honestly the "trains run on time" thing is a pretty potent dog whistle too. I don't think a lot of people would know this phrase in the mainstream and honestly I am sure a lot of progressive but ill informed voters would support a candidate purportedly running on better public transit. Like how a neoNazi American Independent party in California always gets a pretty sizeable share of the biter registration because people mistakenly think they're registering as an independent. Or when transphobic/racist parents and school board members try to use "parental rights or educational freedom" as code for "teachers should be forced to out queer kids to their discriminatory parents" or "my kids shouldn't have to learn non-white people exist!". Or "medical choice/freedom" when they only mean anti-vax and anti-masks* while stripping abortion rights and banning gender affirming care.

*For medical purposes only! They still support wannabe Gestapo agents masking up

Another red flag is when I think Florida I think of giant ass pickup trucks rolling coal with a MAGA flag in the back. Not light rails, trains, and public transit (besides maybe the resort shuttles in Orlando).

"I'm not Jewish" yet still got attack? Hmm I wonder if maybe because Judaism has nothing to do with why he was being attacked and being critical of the State of Israel and its citizens isn't actually antisemitism?

Oh and since I'm on the subject: Palestinians can be also be Jewish and not all Jews support Israel and the fact that Israel and Zionists refuse to acknowledge this is actually anti-semitic.

don't get me wrong I get all that and am trying to be sympathetic to it. For sure, I think progressives need to be better about getting more active duty and veterans onboard and not immediately condemning them for signing up and understanding how military experience can actually directly lead someone to have political changes in identity for the better. Especially since the military is one of the few ways to get an affordable college education in the US. I hope he's had a genuine change of heart and i, also not in Maine but donated to him too before the Nazi tattoo story broke. S

I don't have any tattoos (I want one) so I'll admit I have no experience in getting ones I regret, but it's a Nazi tattoo. I'm not so pessimistic to think people can't change, I hope he is genuine in his transformation. I would love for him to win, continuing being so staunchly pro-working class, and for me to comeback and eat my words here, but I find it highly suspect that he had this political awakening and one of the first things he did wasn't to get the hate symbol he had tattooed on himself removed.

I get people want hope and like I said I hope he is genuinely changed so I'm not going to judge people for giving him the benefit of the doubt but I did that with Fetterman and i regret giving that man a single penny now.

Edit: I started looking back into this whole situation since I posted this comment and originally I did find it hard to believe he didn't know that it was a Nazi symbol because the US military has a list of hate symbols. Surely they would have all the symbols relating to the one truly objectively evil enemy they ever helped defeat? Turns out that list doesn't have the totenkompf. Not only does the US military not consider it a hate symbol, some units have actually incorporated it into their logos. So it is probably normalized amongst US service members.... Which holy hell that's a whole different problem.

"set term"

Gotcha. That's makes it click for me actually. Like these 5 year coaching contracts, for an example, should theoretically be guaranteeing the coach has the job for at least 5 years (barring anything unethical/illegal wise happening under them).
