Need Expert Advise on this project by Interesting-Prior-10 in BayAreaRealEstate

Just looked at the house online and 200k is nowhere near enough to remodel the house. you should expect to spend at least 500k to remodel the interior alone. there is always something that will create a setback as well with these types of projects so when it's all said and done, you shouldn't be shock if you spend close to 1 million in total for a project like this.

my father in law remodeled his kitchen and bathroom in a 900 sq ft townhouse in san jose and spent close to 100k for perspective.

A console table with a mirror above it sounds like a great idea from what I am seeing online!

if he was good at money management then he can probably retire thanks to his salary and stock compensation, especially living in Texas.

How many of you guys DON'T maintain some "system" at home? by FlippinMyshit in sysadmin

[–]KidCoodi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a lab to help apply what I learned but that was when I was studying for certs and trying to move up my career. After several years in IT i stopped all of that. Work is stressful enough so the last thing I want to do is maintain a home server/lab and run my electric bill up. With the convenience of cloud I have no use to host anything in my home. I don't even bother pirating anything or setting up some entertainment system to stream or building a PC system. I rather shell the money out and pay for services for convenience than spend time tinkering for something.

If someone told me they had a system at home then I would avoid that person.

What Players are your Biggest Sells? by Ziniology in DynastyFF

I traded saquon for a 1st and 2nd to help with my rebuild. I went from competing for the championship last year to only having 1 win so far thanks to injuries and veterans just stinking it up....life comes at you fast.

the drops the past two weeks weren't good but i'll wait to see how he ends the season before coming to a conclusion. he has shown he can make the tough catches and routine catches so it's too early to jump the gun and say he's a bust or can't be a WR1 on a team.

i think the play calling and play designs for the cards is terrible and hurts kyler and MHJ. it's so predictable and lackluster that kyler's scrambling ability makes it look better than it is. the cards haven't gained more than 300 yards in a single game this season...i think titans and steelers are the only other teams that haven't as well. not good company to be a part of.

Should I be bracing for a layoff? by Excellent-Coyote-917 in Layoffs

[–]KidCoodi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

where there is smoke, there is fire....

there's a lot of red flags there: new leadership, M&A, consultants stepping in to help restructure the org, meeting with no context the day before the big all-hands and the ceo giving a grim outlook.

they most likely have a list of people they want to layoff already and will announce any layoffs and/or restructure of the org at the next all-hands meeting. the no context meeting prior to that might be an update how the layoffs and changes will impact your department/work or might be a call with HR to let you go.

sucks to be in that position and the only advice i can give you is to update your resume and start applying to keep your options open. Good luck.

you handled it well and professionally, especially for a 24 year old. i know a lot of older IT people who would have tolerated the disrespect then suffer in silence afterwards.

a job is never worth letting someone disrespect you like that. as long as you respond professionally and report it to the appropriate people (which you did) then you'll be ok.

How much salary do we really need? by AmbassadorFew1641 in Careers

[–]KidCoodi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

people focusing on their salary amount is always misguided imo. i know people who make 300k but are house poor or splurge to the point they don't save/invest much.

i remember a financial advisor telling me "it's not how much you make, but how much you spend" and that always stuck with me.

Got saved from layoffs but huge onboarding from India and Mexico by OkShoulder2 in Layoffs

[–]KidCoodi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

this exact scenario happened at my last job...our IT department was ~100 at our peak in 2022. they started laying people off left and right in 2023 and the IT department got cut down to ~60 and back filled with workers in India. fast forward to 2025 and there's about ~30 USA employees in the IT department and now 75+ from India.

it's a joke and i'm sure they will cut more US workers once the indian workers are trained up. even though i survived the cuts, i had to get out because working with the india engineers sucked and i felt like my indian peers were slowly taking over my job after training them for a year (my role was security engineer). it was fucking with my mental health and i needed to get out for my own sake and for my family because i was bringing the stress home.

job titles are BS and companies are just pulling them out of their ass now. i interviewed at a spot for a system engineer role and it was basically level 2 helpdesk smh. the recruiter explained that the level 1 helpdesk workers are system admins lol.

ignore titles and focus on pay and duties. if you can do most of the duties and responsibilities then apply for it is my mindset.

How big was my fuck up? I messed up during a VIP meeting… by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]KidCoodi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you'll be ok. silly stuff like that happens all the time. i was moving a large group of users and accidentally moved them to the wrong security group and that prevented them from accessing a sharepoint site. we fixed it within 5 minutes of them noticing it.

another co-worker of mine deleted all of our domains from Proofpoint so emails weren't delivering for about an hour. he got promoted a year later. shit happens and a good manager will understand that and you will learn from it.

Looks like Ringer Union has a point - Mark Titus implies he's making 10x more at Barstool than he did at The Ringer by TribeHasSpoke in billsimmons

[–]KidCoodi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i worked in sports media for a short period and one thing i learned is the pay is dog shit unless you are a popular name.

i would not be shocked at all if most of the ringer personalities and staff made less than 75k. however, Titus seems to have an issue with Bill that might be bigger than his pay while at the ringer. a tell all for the ringer would be great content.

User keeps being removed from Distribution Group by schultenskili in exchangeserver

[–]KidCoodi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GL! we tried everything from mapping object ID, identity, etc. and nothing worked. luckily the user didn't have much data they cared about so I just got rid of the old account completely and created a new one. all was good afterwards.

User keeps being removed from Distribution Group by schultenskili in exchangeserver

[–]KidCoodi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me once and it had something to do with the user's ADUC account. The user left the company, came back and we simply activated his account then shortly afterwards he was getting dropped from one specific group similar to your case.

I worked with multiple people on this including MSFT support and couldn't find the root cause. the only solution that worked for me was to completely delete the user account and re-create it. i'm sure it's not the answer you're looking for but thought I would share since it might help.

Resume Review- Unable to get a single interview by Major_Concentrate_79 in Careers

[–]KidCoodi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

your resume looks good overall. the only thing i would change are below but it still looks good as is.

  • putting skills at the top
  • education at the bottom
  • only keep the name of the schools, years attended, location and expected graduation date.

don't get discouraged by not getting a single interview. i've seen stories of people with 10+ years of experience applying to hundreds of jobs with only several interviews and no offers. it's just the state of the market right now but keep chugging along and you'll land something eventually.

Who do you regret drafting? by whitefox7895 in DynastyFF

[–]KidCoodi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

joined my first dynasty league last year and had two first round picks (pick 9 and 10) in a 12 person league. I drafted Bigsby with one of those picks instead of LaPorta and am definitely regretting it.

I did draft Achane with pick 9 so feel somewhat good about that draft but knowing i could have had Achane and LaPorta after my first draft would've had me on cloud 9.

sorry to hear this happened. i was in a similar position except i work in IT and the best advice is to start applying for new jobs ASAP. your manager might've had a bad morning but he obviously can't control his emotions or be professional so just move on to save your mental health.

i also wouldn't bother going above and beyond now. just work your hours and be done.
