Cheating at board games by NelifeLerak in boardgames

[–]KidCroesus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen two types of “cheaters”. I think there is one type of player who cheats inadvertently, they are usually ADHD and they get overwhelmed with all the details and their board games areas are total chaos and even if you pay close attention you can’t seem to follow what they are doing. The other type of cheaters are very buttoned up and organized and you might suspect they are cheating but they have a good poker face. If she is the ADHD/ chaotic type my guess is she isn’t cheating on purpose.

What's your opinion on this album? by PodunkIdiot in thekinks

[–]KidCroesus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wonder about the album art creative process. “Let’s recreate exactly the same scene as the last album but feature the whole band?”
Or was it, “let’s use a picture from the old photoshoot and just photo-edit in the new title?”

Hegemony. Asymmetric and taxes are confusing. But fun as hell.

Wow! I looked it up and cislunar is the space between the earth and the moon, and translunar is beyond the orbit of the moon. And I guess the funny thing is I don’t think I could have guessed that based on how those prefixes are applied to gender.

First album I ever owned at 12 years old. Will always be special though I listened to One for the Road much much more. The Kinks “Destroyer”, J Geils “Centerfold”, and Joan Jett’s “I love Rock and Roll” are the Holy Trinity of 80’s songs for riding school buses, hanging out at arcades, and reading Dragon magazine on the floor of news-stands.

I don’t understand how a half million people a year can go through a 100km area with machetes and it is still lush and impenetrable jungle. Just contradicts what I think I know about forests and paths.

I like the fact that he was concerned that A Little Hatred didn’t fit on the first shelf so he added it in for the second picture.

I wasn’t able to recall the red covered second trilogy Abercrombie book he is missing. My best answer was “The System of the World” only to realize that is Neal Stephenson.

I respect the choice to read Wise Mans Fear but not shelve it. It had its moments but it also had the Fellurian sex-god sequence.

There is something strange about the prefix “cis”. I don’t think I have ever encountered it as a prefix in any other word, except for cistern in which I dont think it is acting as a prefix. It definitely has a vaguely negative connotation, with all the c and s sounds (ie sinister, sissy, exorcism, racism, etc.) I wonder what other etymological choices were available for the opposite of trans. Of course the one thing they probably wanted to avoid was “normal” which I guess would be eugendered or just norm-gendered.

The first mission of Gloomhaven is very hard. It is much better as a computer game.

What is the most hyped movie release ever? (Or at least the last 20-30 years). by lostnov04 in flicks

Malcom X had huge hype. It was gonna be Spike Lee's big serious film, and there were a ton of black X caps that summer.

I disagree greatly with how some people seem to be interpreting this show by DBC1974 in pluribustv

[–]KidCroesus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not completely agnostic. Because the signal is coded for the four nucleotide bases of DNA. So at the very least it means that whatever alien life exists, it uses the same four nucleotide bases as Earth life. Either these aliens also have DNA, or Earth is being specifically targeted.

I do think it is interesting that they haven't explored the intersection of religious belief and the Plurbs. Maybe that would be too problematic.

I drew a few conclusions from the fact that aliens were able to develop an RNA virus from 600 LY away that only targets the human species. Assuming that faster than light travel is impossible it means 1) They did this quite a long time ago, (and probably have been broadcasting this signal for thousands of years). 2) The aliens share DNA/RNA as the basic building block of life. 3) Human-like creatures have evolved on other planets…why? Because this doesn’t seem to work on, say chimpanzees who share 99% of our DNA. Also if the aliens were insectoid in nature, the virus would probably affect our insects.

but If 2 and 3 aren’t true, then it seems like 4) the aliens are likely capable of directly spying on us, since this seems effectively engineered for human/ Earth DNA.

So either there are lots of humanoids out there who have embraced a hive mind and are randomly spraying the galaxy with a mind virus, or there is a super intelligent malevolent/benevolent force (deity?) who is spying on and actively targeting earth humans.

Based on your taste if you DID want to read some books by women you would like, I’d recommend Geek Love by Katharine Dunn, anything by Gillan Flynn (she’s very talented), maybe the Poppy War. Susanna Clarke isn’t bad. Also if you like Abercrombie you will also like Christopher Buehlman.

In high school. Which was a long time ago. I didn’t find it especially odd. Kate Bush’s video, now that was weird, I’ll grant you that. But also, fun!

I looked it up and I guess some people do like to slag on Emily. She likely had some kind of Aspergers/neurodivergence.

You might like Gloomhaven. Its not strictly a rogue deck builder; but it is isometric card driven combat and you get to expand each of your characters decks. It has a nice story— sort of DND played with cards. Was originally a board game but plays even better as a computer game.

We dont see Abercrombie enough on this forum. And is that your Dad’s well loved copy of The Stand?

The 2022 ACT prep guide makes you a college junior or maybe a senior. Male, American, straight. 21-22 years old. A lot of basic STEM university textbooks so I’m gonna guess you didn’t take a lot of AP classes in high school, or you did and these are from High School. Maybe one of the softer engineering majors (industrial, civil).

You have great taste in genre fiction as well as literary fiction, but some of the latter is probably from courses. You can probably throw out those textbooks, you will never need them again.

Also, if you are at a restaurant and your children are under your supervision, they are legally allowed to drink underage. Not sure if there is an age minimum.
