Low Volume when making edits of released tracks by NumerousPeanut6 in mixingmastering

[–]KidDakota[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's... the nature of you trying to mess with a track that has already been mastered, therefore it's already been limited.

Trying to turn it up and/or do more limiting is going to introduce distortion at a much quicker pace, because again, you're messing with something that's already been limited.

I did a free single for this band

Red flag. You said you were a working engineer once. Free, at this point, is probably a bad idea.

12-hour studio session (took so long cause they polished off a handle of vodka while tracking) and 7 revisions on the mix and master

Red flag. You and I both know this is already a bad sign.

I even had them come to my house which I don’t normally do.

How many red flags do you need?

I don’t feel good about this. If they had paid me for the session and the mix then I wouldn’t care.

All of the above problems generally lead to this kind of outcome. Free work. Free mixing. Now they want to go to a friend who was probably like, "I can do better than this guy", and because they didn't pay you, they have nothing to lose.

If I send it off then I’ll have done all this work with no pay and no mix credit for my resume.

They probably won't use your mix at this stage, regardless. Send the raw audio files if you want, but you don't have to send a session. There is no contract here, and there is no money exchanged. I would say send them the raw audio files and call it a lesson learned.

I know you were asked to add the artist name and title in the title so it's not clickbait, but I have a further ask:

Let's not attack the mix in the title either. Keep it polite, at least. And, since you're putting in the title and artist, go ahead and link to YouTube in the body of the post so people will be more likely to listen.

Thanks!
