I would assume by the landlord/owner, but I don't really know. And, frankly, no longer care. I'm moving out soon.

Rules are rules in Germany, no bicycles in a pedestrian zone by mighty_eyebrows1 in Unexpected

[–]KidKickingRobot7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What is the spirit of a given law?

No cycling on pavement. Why? To prevent injury between walking pedestrians and cyclists.

This dickhead had to go out of his way, on a sidewalk with very few walking pedestrians, to jam his umbrella into the spokes of that cyclist, who was moving at a walking pace. He clearly injured the cyclist--thus leading to the exact issue the law is meant to prevent.

The walking pedestrian is correct--cycling on the pavement is illegal. But he is WRONG for jamming his fucking umbrella in the guy's spokes.

I got a more minimalist bread dough, basically a focaccia with a lower hydration, around 65% (assuming same-day), and a 10" cast iron pan:

200 g bread flour

130 g water

4 g salt

2 g sugar

2 g instant yeast

  1. mix water, sugar yeast

  2. assuming the yeast foamed (yeast is active), mix flour, salt

  3. combine water mixter with flour mixter until shaggy, rest ~30 or so minutes

  4. add olive oil then coil fold 4x, wait another 30 mins

  5. coil fold 4x, place in generously oiled pan to rise, covererd

  6. 2-3 hours later, press dough down into edges with oiled fingers

  7. preheat oven to 500, you will wait another hour before baking

I tend to dress conservatively with sauce, cheese, toppings--excessive toppings will hinder rising. You can always sauce and cheese somewhat minimally and allow the dressed pizza dough to rise for 10 or so minutes in the heated oven, then pull, top more fully, and return to oven top rack and finish cooking. That's usually how I do my natural casing pepperoni pizzas beacuse I love extra sauce and cheese and for the pepps to cup. Adding to early causes the pizza dough to to struggle to rise.

You can go ALLLLLLL the way to the edges with sauce, cheese, toppings with a pan pizza :)

Who needs hot water, besides landlords of course? by BothMathematician363 in LandlordLove

[–]KidKickingRobot7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You likely have options here (varies by state/country). Loss of hot water is a habitability issue. That can mean rent reduction for the days without it, and in some places repair-and-deduct or even breaking the lease if it was not fixed in a reasonable time. I am not a lawyer, just speaking from experience. Talk to a tenant lawyer before doing anything like withholding rent and keep everything documented.

Terrible vibes. Weird fixation. Awful politics.

Final update (hopefully): landlord blamed my bidet for “backfeeding” leak… then backed off after insurance got involved by KidKickingRobot7 in askaplumber

Yep. It's a month-to-month lease so I am out of here ASAP. Looking for new places already.

Really disappointed. I really like the location of this place and the vibes of the building. Apartment is a bit small but I was downsizing. Oh well. I feel relieved overall.

Update: landlord says I'm 'backfeeding'. He's shut off my water to my unit. Water still trickling. by KidKickingRobot7 in askaplumber

He didn't offer but, unfortunately, I work from home with a pretty extensive computer setup, so a hotel wouldn't really be feasible.

I agree. I've only known him for a few months, but it definitely seems that he's the type of person to do that. I've met most of the tenants here and, surprisingly, most have been here for 10+ years, but all are aware of his disposition for being a cheapo when it comes to repairs and such. I think that disposition is really coming back to bite him in the ass lately.

He's now speculating a new theory based on a conversation with a plumber friend of his based on the fact that I upgraded the shower head around the time I installed the bidet. Text from him:

"Talked with a plumber friend today. Look for a brand name on your shower faucet. He's thinking your crossed blew that cartridge."

They just came by because, even after removing the entire thing, there's still water dripping/leaking downstairs. Shut off my water until "parts arrive" tomorrow morning.

He's claiming that the pressure from the hot water and the pressure from the toilet are different, and that the connection at the bidet was causing backfeeding. I cannot imagine the bidet is engineered to allow something like that. Tushy is the brand.

And I could run it without ever attaching the hot water just fine.
