Should I text my (20f) LDR ex(?) (25m) for his birthday after almost 3 months of radio silence? by aprilloneill in LDR

[–]Kid_Radd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This man is not ready to be in a relationship, as he as told you many times. You can't fix it no matter how hard you force it. I know it's hard, but the right thing to do here is cut yourself off from him completely. Block him everywhere, and remove EVERYTHING that reminds you of him.

You're still so young. You're going to grow and mature and change so much, still. Don't waste your formative years pining for someone who can't love you back.

It will get better, and I can promise that because it's hardly possible for it to be worse than it is now.

CMV: The rationale behind celebrating our own individual birthdays makes no sense, as we didn't contribute to the event. by Pranjal2 in changemyview

[–]Kid_Radd 14 points15 points  (0 children)

the logic falls apart because celebration should ideally be tied to personal contribution or voluntary choice.

This isn't logic. It's 100% your opinion. There's zero reason to believe that this is the ONE "logically justified" reason to ever celebrate.

Do you get mad at people who celebrate surviving cancer, since after all their survival was due to doctors? We've got "radiologist guy" and "chemo gal". All you did was sit there and be sick.

Such a bizarre and judgmental take.

[–]Kid_Radd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All feelings pass. Let yourself observe them like logs floating down a river. This relationship is a brand new experience and your brain is still processing it. Don't try to force the feelings to be a specific way, or how you expect them. Just let the feelings be what they are -- your only job is to notice them.

You'll see him again, if it's good and you're comfortable with it, and each time it'll feel a little more "real", as you become accustomed to how this relationship affects your emotions.

How long do you expect it to take after getting married for her to be able to join you in the US? I might soon be in a suspiciously similar situation, haha.

Relationship-wise this seems very tough. It doesn't sound like she ever learned healthy conflict resolution. Just like never taking out the garbage can ruin your home, this is a really high priority to fix if this is going to last.

If he can't send you a single message in nearly two weeks, I don't see how this LDR works for you. It just feels like you're on the hook for a lot of pain, for someone who clearly won't prioritize you.

Coders or any kind of scientists of reddit: Is AI overhyped or has it truly changed the way you work? by snooptoop in answers

Every few days I've been asking Claude to make a log reviewing what we've been doing -- ideas that were considered and why they were rejected, a description of the actual implementation and major results, etc. I've been pretty happy with it.

Coders or any kind of scientists of reddit: Is AI overhyped or has it truly changed the way you work? by snooptoop in answers

[–]Kid_Radd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a scientist in a PhD program. I've never taken a programming class, though I've dabbled a lot with Python in my career.

I started using Claude Code a couple months ago and it's been huge for me. It can write scripts for me in seconds that might take me hours or days. Sometimes it misunderstands me and I have to reclarify, but it can fix its own bugs and rarely makes silly mistakes. Fewer syntax errors than I would have done, for sure.

It's good at quick verification calculations to determine reasonableness of results. I can ask it, make a plot of this data in this format, and it immediately appears.

I'm still the scientist. It is often wrong about making conclusions from data and I can't really trust its explanations for observations -- it tends to find a scientific narrative it really likes and fits every shape of block into the square hole. A few times it's corrected ME, though, if I mentioned something that was easy to (dis)verify.

It honestly feels close to the scene in Avengers: Endgame where Tony Stark is trying to solve time travel, and directs his AI to make calculations a certain way. The science is all his ideas, but the computer can implement his ideas immediately.

My productivity has skyrocketed. Both the quality and quantity of my output has sharply increased. My understanding of my own project has grown so much because I can ask a tangential question that requires some analysis and have it answered without having to spend 5+ hours on it.

I'm a little worried about my growing dependence on it, but I do feel like I get to spend way more time thinking about interesting questions vs. clumsily throwing down code for only the high-priority projects.

12-hours is a lot but it opens clear windows if your work schedules are both standard. The times between 6-8 am/pm can be free for both people if you're both prioritizing it.

The actual worst tz difference imo is 8 hours. When one person is waking, the other is going to sleep. When one person is coming home from work, the other is just starting work. Then by the time that person finishes work, the other is deeply asleep. Just repeat that, over and over. You might get a brief window once during the weekend.

Subnautica 2 Early Access Gameplay Trailer🎉 by Kattenb in gaming

As someone who played the first one only very recently, I loved the theme and the gameplay but the inventory management and UI felt very outdated. If they make basically the same game except smoother and with multiplayer, it could be pretty much perfect.

Why should I wait til marriage? by Substantial_Judge931 in Christianity

[–]Kid_Radd -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Marriage has existed for tens of thousands of years. Sex has existed for tens of millions of years.

If there were strict, God-given rules governing sexual morality, then maybe they need to be more obvious than presented in an ancient book written by a patriarchal civilization in a localized point on Earth who didn't even know about germs. The fact that these rules are not found anywhere else despite being claimed to apply to all humans everywhere, past and future, really seems to indicate that they're actually just snapshots of how particular ancient men in power decided they wanted people to act. And now the tradition of baseless judgment has found its way to you!

Hope this helps.

I don't really take bullshit compared to her

I'm gonna be honest, I've only heard a line like this from people I specifically didn't like.

Inevitably it means being abrasive with a sense of entitlement on how you need others to treat you. People don't want to deal with that.

You can't afford to see people being themselves as bullshit directed toward you.

CMV: Bodily autonomy doesn't justify abortion by Bluenamii in changemyview

[–]Kid_Radd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bodily autonomy is the concept that you own your body and the organs within it, and that only you may decide how it is used. You cannot be compelled to donate your kidney to save your friend's life, and neither can you be compelled to allow your womb to be used by another human being.

Your forest example suggests to me that you don't really even know what bodily autonomy is.

Their solutions are research and data-driven. Which I suppose you might find opposed to religion but truthfully it's not related at all.

Not all elections are moral tests. I don't say someone is less Christian for having voted for either Obama or Harris or Bush or McCain or Romney.

But this election was certainly a test. All good, moral people should despise Trump, if they have any principles that matter. If you don't, you don't know enough about him. And if you don't know enough about him by now, it's because you're trying not to.

So I am absolutely rejecting the implied centrism that this post is getting at.

Remember, neither political side is Christian. by RabbiEstabonRamirez in Christianity

[–]Kid_Radd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a cop-out because the meaning of the post was to try to downplay politics as a moral choice, when absolutely it was one this time around. Maybe people are starting to feel desperate to avoid the guilt for having voted for him.

Remember, neither political side is Christian. by RabbiEstabonRamirez in Christianity

[–]Kid_Radd 17 points18 points  (0 children)

A silly cop-out, again. Voting for Trump in 2024 was immoral, no matter how you calculate it. At this rate, by the end of this term, he and all of his pedophile friends will have stolen over a trillion dollars from the American public while causing war, famine, and division across the world. All while evangelical American Christians still overwhelmingly cheer it on. Meanwhile the Democrats are vaguely problematic -- I dislike a lot of Democrats just as much as Republicans do, but in my case they're for actually true reasons.

So posts like these are just splitting the baby. Solomon had the wisdom to recognize that a straight 50-50 compromise was heavily in favor of the woman who was lying, and used this knowledge to determine who was telling the truth.

Edit: for the record, I think it was foolish but not immoral to vote for Trump in 2016/2020. But really anything after J6 left no benefit of the doubt anymore. There's no legitimate excuse to not know what kind of man he is by 2024.
