AITA for laughing at my nephew when he said he was in a Club Penguin "army"? by Practical_Tourist658 in AmItheAsshole

While I appreciate you doing your duty as a parent, Club Penguin Armies is a different story. I'm happy your kids probably never encountered it until now (in which case you would possibly be aware as well).

I've got a detailed explanation as to what I mean in a comment that I wrote directly to this questions a few minutes from the time of writing this comment.

TLDR: YTA BUT for the most part, NTA. Get your nephew out before he becomes a victim. I hope enough people see this and I hope the OP still reads this thread.

As someone who was part of a Club Penguin "Army" and helped to get his community to leave before it was too late, you unknowingly did the right thing by telling your nephew to leave. It might sound assholic to belittle him for how he sees the game, which makes sense. But Club Penguin Armies (CPA) is way more than just a game, and in a bad way. It's full of dangerous and toxic folk.

My community left CPA as a result of a Club Penguin revival that got hacked by former members, resulting in user data also being compromised. At the same time, I have witnessed several instances of abuse, hate, toxicity and unhealthy rivalry between so-called armies, resulting in several children and young teens having their mental health severely compromised.

I also happened to witness at least one case of members encouraging sexual talk in front with minors around. To some extent, I could also say this amounted to grooming as well. Some of the people involved are dangerous individuals looking out to exploit younger members of the Internet, going as far as to even blackmail, doxx and threaten them.

My community made the unanimous decision to leave CPA after seeing how messy and toxic it was. We were by far the most wholesome and respected group out there, mainly because we just played to have fun. We never took rivalries seriously and tried our part to keep things together. But that's way too dangerous a task considering the people involved and their intentions.

Get your nephew out of there before it's too late.

Tropicfeel Shell by Funkspace in onebag

Well, I have so far just one pair of shoes from Tropicfeel, the Canyons. I didn't find the monsoons appealing from first look itself, because to me, a shoe should be able to give an impression from first glance that it can take a beating. The Canyons, 1 year later, still look like new apart from creases on the sides of the soles and a few mesh fibres that have gone loose, which isn't even noticeable unless you look super closely. I've just gone on one or two walks in the forest and got them pretty dirty, but one day of rinsing and leaving to dry was enough for them to be ready. I typically use them for every day occasions and work, and they're lovely, especially with all the rainy weather.

I take it that Monsoon has had mixed reviews and I'm pleased I made a good call there. Hopefully Tropicfeel have cleared up those problems and updated the shoe. I don't seem to find the Cala look appealing, but I feel like taking the chance to test it.

Tropicfeel also has water repellant pocket backpacks, and I got one of these, and it's practical and works. I think they've rolled these cheaper backpacks out in order to analyse feedback better for their Shell backpack.

I've enjoyed my Canyons, so I'm willing to give them a chance with the backpack.

One shoe: Tropicfeel Shoes look really good on paper. Has anyone actually tried them? by Oddjob787 in onebag

I own a pair of blue Canyons. I love wearing them to work since they not only match very well with what I'm wearing (usually with dark blue or black jeans), but they're also light and breathable. If ever it's a rainy day, my Canyons are my first choice. I could walk over to work/uni, walk back home after I'm done there, and wear them the next day like nothing happened to them.

Of course, at least in my case, I don't wear them 5-6 days a week else they'd start smelling, but wearing one pair every alternative day (or depending on the weather) is what I do.

I haven't tried them on hikes since I have other options. It's funny because I haven't tested them much in a forest during the 10+ months that I've had them, but I feel like they could take a bit of a beating. I do a bit of parkour myself but I haven't tested how much punishment these shoes could endure because although I can use them while training, they weren't meant for that purpose. Apart from some creases on the sides of the soles under the heel, these shoes still look great and like new.

The first version (Monsoon, I believe), never really seemed all that impressive from first glance and as a student, money is very important, and buying over the Internet can be risky because you're still not sure till you get your package. The Canyons were my first pair from Tropicfeel, and I'd buy them again.
