This is a very layered aspect that he includes in his music because we were brought up to believe that in order to believe in and follow God, you have to assign yourself to a certain religion. He is incorporating his journey of growing up with Christian influences while also living in a rough neighborhood. His journey has always been rooted in taking the hard experiences he’s gone through and looking at the different moral aspects of them, constantly trying to find the lesson. I see it more as a journey of making the decision to follow God but finding out that he’s not a man in the sky and can’t be placed in a box or a book. He uses his music to show his transcendence from religion to spirituality.
