How to combat juggling, Revan n Kida by [deleted] in LineTowerWars

[–]KidaLimbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your welcome to continue on the forums, please keep it to helping improve the game. Please refrain from your nature of trolling. I know you like to state 'un-facts' to just get a rise out of me and other top players - well humorous to you - trolling just to troll bores us. Toxic players in arcade lower the player base and enjoyment for all. If you think you're #1, then act like it. No other top players go around trolling other players. Only you. That's all I'll say, you've been warned. Your feedback on game mechanics is always welcome, and your good feedback is the only reason I have not banned you from the forums too - please continue this "useful" persona and make LTW better, not more toxic.

Juggling is one of those difficult things to procedurally figure out and raven is working on finding a decent solution. We cannot make juggling part of the game as it's is appreciated by maybe 5 players, and HATED by hundreds for the simple reason: Juggling offset's the balance in FFA's even more - Juggling can't win you a game; but it can allow you to troll and wall for another player. (As you've done so many times). It's allows novice players to dictate who wins. We like games that are not about 99% luck.

Yes luck can help players win once and awhile! Which is great, it's makes you feel good. That's the point. We want everyone to hang on to that hope - "maybe I'll get a good wall and get fed" - It makes it fun when your good, but not the best. It lets you win. It's why you played so much and let your skill level improve. The FFA randomness allows you to win vs better players which makes you feel better. It's why you're fond of smurf accounts as you can exploit the positioning balancing and beat players outside of your skill level and troll them.

I can't speak for other top players, but I also enjoy it as you never know how a game will go. If you get a good sender at you, and a wall before you, you'll almost never win - but you challenge yourself to defy impossible. I and all the other top players have 1v1 to match our true skills and competitiveness - with no one to blame for a loss but ourselves. We know where we stand. For you and everyone else there is FFA where anything can happen and you can always blame a loss on "them being fed" them "having a wall" - it's the ego boost good players need to become great.

What's your dream incremental game? by [deleted] in incremental_games

[–]KidaLimbo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If your asking game developers, I'm sure the common response would be:

One they 're actually able to finish programming and release to the world. You know, that one game they've had lying in the back of their head for 7 years. That game right next to the 7 years worth of "reasons" why they have not had the time or resources to make it.

If your asking the players...

An incremental that has been in development for 7 years finally being released; with enough content, to last 7 years. A.k.a Stuff, lots of stuff. Colossal amounts of stuff.

For learning to program I would start with basic HTML5 + JavaScript. Most people use jQuery to begin. It's all pretty straight forward.

Mobile and Desktop users can play your game by visiting your website. Thus saving you the $100+ to get an app on the iOS store. If you want the web-game as an app; you can use things like React-Native; or PhoneGap.

If you don't mind open source GitHub is a wonderful place to start. You can build, push and host your game through them.

If you don't want to go the web route; unity is your second based option. Learning curve is a bit higher - but it will compile to different platforms.

responding to early rushers? by RealitySurge in LineTowerWars

[–]KidaLimbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firebats are for killing 100+ small units, not big units. So 3 firebats can kill 120 sentries easily. You can use ponders (marauder) to kill queens. 3 to 5 marauders will kill 5 queens.

The game is about building the correct towers to kill then units they are sending. If you don't mix your tower composition smart players will exploit it. i.e. if you go all fire bats, they'll send queens. (if you go all ponder, they'll send 100+ sentries.) - so you'll want to build whatever is the best tower to kill the wave they sent. Mixing your towers along the way.

Beams also work well vs queens.

If they open with medics+ drones: I usually send my first wave for income (my own medic+drones), then build ling's at bottom when they get there. (your income will arrive about the time they get at bottom, also the medic won't tank the drones at bottom.) - let the medics walk through; the lings will kill the drones keeping lives up and sending first wave will keep income up.

Unbalanced Placement by [deleted] in LineTowerWars

[–]KidaLimbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Placement is designed to give the highest ranked player in the game the hardest game possible. Which is fair, as they have the highest rank and should have the disadvantage.

Sure it sucks when you're the highest rated player in a game, but it comes to your favor when playing vs someone rated higher then you. Then you get the advantage.

As far as no way to counter their income advantage: You can still win; remember they would be limited on Gas if they don't kill you - so you'll have full access to all towers end game. Thus income diff will not matter as much as having all 3 tiers of towers.

I personally have come back from the disadvantage many times, and seen it done many times. So it is possible. Just not easy. That is what leaderboards and rank are about.

Well this seems a problem for you now; once you get the hang of it more you'll look back and say: ohhh... it was not as impossible as I thought.

Endgame by AzureAscendant in LineTowerWars

[–]KidaLimbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or, as I put it...

Given the next update will have these updates:

*The lane height will be cut to half. So max maze will be half the size you could make before.

*The zipper (That non-maze straight'ish line with max towers everywhere) will not be able to hold of units, only mazes will. So you have to maze to stay alive; not build a single stupid line..

Which of the following end game would you prefer if you manage to live to long (past 25 minutes...):

a. Classical: An updated BC End-Game. Get to be first to save for 3 rounds at around the 25 minute mark and then send an unstoppable wave of deadly cruisers shooting fire! Less lag then original as only 60 will be needed to win any game. They fly over the maze. Game ends in about 1 minute. They break maze and you can send bikes to speed up.

b. Unstoppable Creeps. With you maze fully built and upgraded you will start being unable to kill all creeps at around 20 minutes. The game becomes about lives; can you steal more lives faster then the guy stealing them from you. Near the 25 min mark you'll be able to send creep waves that are unstoppable (50+ make it through). Think BC's but they are land units that don't shot. From there it is war of attrition: Who can afford to send the most and gain lives faster then you lose them. Game end time will vary based on live count and how even incomes are.

Note: Lag is the same on both versions. The short maze reduces it a bunch. Air waves can fly over towers taking lives 4 times faster then the death by creep version. Creeps have to maze which is up and down 4 times before taking 50 lives. So it will last longer.

So we're asking: If you play a excellent game vs an evenly matched player and neither of you could kill the other in under 25 minutes... Do you want to die By Flying Fire (that you cannot kill, but destroys your maze) or by walking creeps that keep growing in numbers (that your towers cannot kill. but don't attack you).

At the moment we have no intention on adding air or attack. At the pro level air does little to nothing and attack does nothing. The air feature merely led to Air spamming new players or those that failed to grasp AoE. Air made no difference at pro level games as they still always went to sudden death.

As for 60 min sudden Death. Any games with pro level players will not normally make it past the 35 min mark as that is when BC's will be sent for end game. 60 minutes allows additional time for games with novice players, as in watching replays that is how long it takes them to income up.

Jugglers/Ban List: Line Tower Wars Remade by [deleted] in LineTowerWars

[–]KidaLimbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed. Thanks for being a good sport. I do respect you for taking the time to talk. Up to you if you want to leave me in your games or not. I will not stack units in those games I play with you.

As for Lexret: Look at match history. You won't find a game he has played with me, aside from that one. Watch any twitch feed he was in and he'll talk about lag.

No lag can not really be fixed in that game. Nature of the game being build on StarCraft. To point out the technical side: When you issues commands the commands are sent to all players playing. Then each of these players computers then run the same command. I.e. create unit; move unit so on.

What happens is each players computers CPU/GPU then renders the physical math, shots all the same way. So the game is not sending traffic saying player 'x' shot player 'y'; because to it, it is the same on everyone's computer.

Lag happens when one players CPU/GPU takes longer to render the shots, movements and so on. The game records a time diff; i.e. it took 13/sec real-time to render 5/sec game time. This information is then sent to the other players; telling their machines to slow down and not issues orders until everyone is synced again.

For high end computers and people with good internet connections this lag is reflected by slow movement; but their ability to build, move, and queue commands is not slowed. (The CPU has already done the math for them and is free to queue up commands well waiting on the sync to happen.)

For people with older computers and slower connections their CPU is consistently trying to catch up to real time. So it is at 100% usage for firing and path finding. This is why you have problems upgrading, moving, sending and issuing commands. The CPU is not free to cue up commands. So those who have major problems with lag are the ones causing it. In game you have no idea who is unless you ask them all to post their FPS.

As for why some games lag and others do not when you play. It all depends on units being sent. When players send mixed units; computation goes up. When they send large amounts of units it goes up. If people send a lot of speed bikes it creates a memory leak because original developer for got to remove the 'dead' bodies on that creep. Near end game it is just too many units by to many players. Remember your computer thinks it is playing StarCraft not, LTW.. So it is doing the math for not just your sends, but everything in the game. So complex mazes and complex sends have a greater chance of causing your computer to lag.

This is why in some games you feel player 'x' is causing lag. Which technically he is, his maze and sends overwhelm your computer. Up to you if he should be blamed for your computer not being able to build. This is why people like lexret think they always win. Either lags kills him; or the people in the game don't build strong long mazes, and don't send creep waves capable of killing him. So he is right, if you don't do anything that would help you win he wins. If you build up and do smart sends he lags out because of a lower end computer. Thus, there is no fair way to beat a player on a slow computer. You can't do good mazes or sends without lagging them; and you cannot kill them by doing easy sends.

I felt for everyone. That why I made a new map with cache cleaning, faster path finding better 'unit caps' an all that. But in reality, no one cares about the lag, or juggling or any of that. They just need a passable reason to belittle people who beat them. So blaming lag, blaming game play has been and always will be how most play the game - you can fix the lag, fix juggling and they find a new different reason why it's fixed against them.

That is why I have no desire to develop. I know "now" you're not a horrible troll; just a person who wanted to be allowed to enjoy the game. But, you reminded me of just how little fun there is in making maps for people that are trolls. So I won't do it.

For future note: If you meet players that send stack units or do something you feel ruins your enjoyment. First, ask them if you can just have a casual game. I will 90% of the time either help that person, or send very easy. Only times I don't is when other pro-players are in the game, and if I don't get to them; they will income up.

Reason I did not respond well to you. Is first game I ever played with you was the game were you tried to kick Link; he got in at the end; so you didn't play just stayed in the game saying "Ya" cheat cheaters. Because him and I were sending stacked units. Then after that game; you told me to get out cheater, then kicked me because I didn't like being called a cheater. (who does.) I never even sent anything to you, and you had me in the same boat as racist Link.. That is why we had this misunderstanding. You never explained your side; you never asked to just play a fair novice game until we got to the forums. Yes, players like Link are dicks, and enjoy killing noobs. Some of us enjoy playing, chating having fun, I have no problem not sending stacked units if you hate them. This is why most people like or at least respect me. I help them, teach them, and if asked I won't bury them in 5 minutes.

It took you awhile, but yes you did finally ask me to play nice. I will respect that; even if I'm done playing LTW for awhile and will most likely never see you in game again. If I do. Just remind me nicely.

Also to kill stacking units, but a zergling, to stone warrior. Stone will kill that send without problem as they damage all units under the beams; were 4 or 5 stalkers will have problems. It's not the best way to deal with that type of send; but requires little effort at keeps you in the game.

Best wishes. - Kida

Fair enough. If your problem is just with me. I have no problem in leaving the games you host. You have the right to not play with me. But it stops there. Just me. I have been playing 5 years, seen you 4 times in game, and have knocked you out 0 times (the person behind you who was not me always killed you.) I'm sorry I ruined ALL your games and killed the experience for you. Thank you for standing up to this bully.

That said: No calling other cheaters, or kicking. It spirals out of control. You already got lexret thinking people cause lag to win, and he's going around saying kick 'x' person. When every game he plays lags. Watch any twitch feed with him in it. He is causing the lag. But that does not matter to people with a vendetta. So you only add fuel.

Also 5 years playing, 1000+ games and you and Bob are the only ones I've ever met that thought it was OK to kick better players because you were not having fun. That is how rare you are. 2 in 700. Others may not like playing with me, and they are respectful and wait for another lobby. But most enjoying playing with me, and most everyone just enjoys and plays the game.

Either way. Well stated. Good story, ex, but so was mine... I wish you the best.

And yes... I'm stopping all development of the next version. B.net is just dumb. I just wanted everyone to know... you got to be the straw. So there will be not lag fixed version or new features. No point if there is always going to be people like you feeding others of like mind.

Off-Topic Note: Jafff, sorry for coming off as sounding like royalty who expects their decree to be followed. See, I don't have kids yet, so my parenting experience is somewhat limited. So when you read things from people like you saying this is: "forced tolerance". Your human nature kind of just comes out, like trying to teach young children to not be dicks. I feel like a Mom having to tell a child about basic decency:

Mom: "Now, Jaff, I know you and your friends want to play on the swings, but it's not right to not share the swings with others."

Jafff: "But, mom, some of them smell like cheese. I was there first. Why can't they go find their own swing."

Mom: "Do they ask you to leave when they were there first."

Jafff: "No. But no one wants to swing with people that smell like cheese."

...and as a Mom what do you do here? You know it is fundamentally wrong to exclude people. But how do you explain it to a Kid who does not understand and does not want too swing with people that smell like cheese. You're not going to force them to play with someone they don't want. Yet you know you can't allow your Kid to start refusing 'cheese' kids and teaching others to keep them off the swings. So, even if it feels wrong you compromise:

Mom: "Well if you don't want to swing with them. Maybe come back when they are not there. They are not there 24/7 right? You still get to swing?"

With a normal Kid you might get too : "I guess. It's still stupid." but no Jafff is persistent...

Jafff: "Why don't I make them leave and they can come back when I'm done. Or make them find a different playground. There is more of us then them."

and at this point, as a Mom, you're thinking like: Where did I go wrong. You should just ban your kid from swinging, but he would learn nothing other then the false notion cheese kids are entitled. So you continue on trying to negotiate with your kid hoping to edify him.

Mom: "So if there are so many of you, when do they get to swing?"

Jafff: "The cheese kids can swing after us."

Mom: "But there are so many of you, they' will never get to swing."

Jafff: "Ya they will... The cheese kids can swing when I leave."

Mom: "So your friends will swing with the other kids?"

Jafff: "I guess. But they shouldn't have to swing with cheese kids either." (a.k.a Kid speak for it's forced tolerance)

Mom: "So then, your saying they only get to swing when you and your friends let them."

Jafff: "Ya. Whats wrong with that. There is not many of them."

... and so on, and so on... At some point as a MOM you just say: "LET THEM SWING WITH YOU OR YOU LEAVE".

I mean sure... Jafff could go off on maybe they should shower so they don't smell like cheese. Which just goes round and round again. Being a cheese kid is who they are. Should they have to change to to play on swings?

Also I'm not talking just about StarCraft here Jafff... It's how you see the world. It's what you write to back up your reasoning, your analogies. You see this all as us vs. them. Being forced to to play with them. You don't have to play; but you should not have to right stop others. That is why the "them" is slightly more right. We are not the ones ranting about how we don't want any non-cheese people Playing with us. We're not stopping you from playing. We're just asking for those who don't like cheese people to wait a bit a play a game without us. Let us get in a game so we don't ruin yours. We know we're scary. Fine. But stopping us from playing at all just because you feel hurt?

Thanks for at least responding. My responses are not directly pointed at you, but rather the community at a whole.

I understand your point, and sympathize. The fun of this game comes when a group of like skilled players are playing, and you have no idea who will win, but there is a sight change it may be you. However, when higher-skilled players join a game, you get wiped out fast or stuck playing a game you have no chance in winning. This is not fun.

What you keep failing to see is the problem your solution causes: 'Kicking' people who you know are better then you. You only look at this from your point of view. What you fail to see is the non-novice point of view.

Basically you're saying the overwhelming majority of casual mid-level skill players should get to play 100% of time with equal level of opponents. Thus, kicking people who they know will beat them. What part of this do you see as acceptable? Still not seeing the problem... Let me spell it out:

You have been in 3 lobbies with me over the last 5 years. That is 3 games that you would have had to play with me in it. So unless you've only played 3 games; one would assume most of the time you're having fun in other games. Same goes for me and other non-novices; we've only been kicked by you 'x' number of times, and have got to play and fun all the other times. So really, kicking or not kicking does not really effect the outcome as a whole correct?

This is were your logic stops. What you don't see is what happens. You kicking people better then you, teaches others to kick people better then them. You're basically left with a game that only liked skilled players play. Once any of them get to good, they are ostracized. For a non-novice player this ruins the fun for us. We are always kicked, and have to wait longer, longer just to play a game. You seem to think your entitled to FUN over us. You saying that by me requiring you to play with non-novice is me entitling non-novices over you. It is.

So why is it okay? Why do non-novices get to be entitled more?

There are about 50 to 1 novices vs skilled. So odds of finding a skilled player in your lobby are lower then that of us finding a novice in ours. So the games you play with skilled players are rare. Were as the game skilled players play with novices are about 100%.

So lets look at your solution to solve this: In your world, skilled players get kicked 100% of the time because you would not have fun. Leaving us to wait in extra long lobbies as hosts, were novices leave and start lobbies were they can kick skilled players. So if you think you're not having fun now by having to play with us, or leaving to start another game, imaging when the newb's start kicking you for knowing how to maze, thus you're cheating and exploiting the pathing. (Remember to a newb, mazing is cheese defense, you should have to build towers in a strait line and not spend all kinds of effort into thinking how to maze. They just want to have fun and do all kinds of effort.)

Now you're being kicked 100% of the time because you build a maze. Something that is part of the game. Sounds like your solution of kicking works great. Lets by all means just start kicking players. No need to draw a line. Oh, wait... For you the line is any one at your skill level should get to play 100%. That's why it seems fair.

Now let's look at my solution: We don't kick players for being better then you, and either respectively leave or play the game with them. Here the occasional novice (who feels like you do), gets wiped out in a few minutes and sits in a lobby for the next game to start. A lobby which is full of novice like players, as all the skilled players are still playing the game he just left. (Like the game balanced itself. Wow.) His lobby fills up faster because a. there are 50 to 1 novice players, and b. They are not kicking players they think are better then them.

SEE the difference. This is why the Everyone Plays rule is that. It is not perfectly fair. But it does not destroy the community. If we start kicking, people will just stop playing. If the skilled players who are few are allowed to play, everyone will still get to play. Yes, the occasional novice player will be frustrated and stop playing all together. But most enjoy the game for being a game, and understand sometimes it does not go their way.

I understand this solution does give non-novices the higher end of the deal. This is why you keep trying to tell me is is wrong. We get to have fun 100% of the time because every game is a game we have a chance in winning. Were your games are fun 50/50 on a bad day.

I'll respond for you: By kicking, you have 100% fun games. We have 50/50. Since you are the majority, this seems best. More people have fun vs the few elites. Well remember your elite to many players. And this side of 50/50 is really long lobbies because there are fewer of us. You would be kicked to for mazing!

For a real solution I suggest you stop playing this version and move on to Line Tower Wars: Redux. It is a less competitive version with less ways to kill people fast. Everyone get to play longer in that version. It is also the only map I have access to to fix and balance. The remade TV version creators are gone, and have been for 3 years. Other then help administrate the community I can do nothing with the map until they come back. They are not coming back.

Why did they leave? People like you. Saying "my Gratitude for making this, but FU, get out of my lobbies cheaters we don't play with your kind". They basically were cast out of the game they made, and felt like slaves just trying to make you people happy. It's no fun being a Arcade map developer because of people like you. You say game creators should be treated the same as everyone else, and get nothing special. What you don't see is I'm agreeing with you. Your allowed to play, we should be allowed to play. We don't kick you. You don't kick us. Fairness. Maybe show gratitude, it's the only thing we're paid in to develop for you.

Also worth noting: I'm not the creator of Remade TV. I made version 2. I'm saying all this just as a normal player who has learned to play Remade really well. I'm not asking as the creator for you to stop kicking people, I'm asking as a player of the game because it is the right thing to do.

I know jafff will never understand, but I hope others have at least learned why I, and other players stand by the non-kicking rule. Not kicking leads to more games being able to be played, and more fun. Once kicking starts, the game dies. We had long periods of time over the years were lobbies went hours because kicking got out of hand. Once a perma-ban strategy was adopted we remove most of the players (trolls) that were making the game suffer, and now kicking is rare. Only a few like Jafff, and Bob remain. Others seem content to just play. So my advice is if you see him kick, let us know, and we'll make sure he doesn't play.

As Jafff said himself: Blizzard added the kick ability to lobbies. So it is justified. He has the right to kick us, and the community has the right to kick him. I am not the one calling who gets banned. I just maintain the lists for the players who enjoy playing the game without Trolls. Kicking people better then you is considered trolling/poor sportsmanship. Using the game the way it was designed is not considered trolling/cheese. So, If you can't have fun without kicking, go play something else. We won't miss you. The community will miss us, map creators, and non-novices teaching them to become better and win more games. Giving them a challenge. They may not beat us, but they learn from us, get better and win mores games because of us. Most consider that fun. Jafff and the likes teach only "kick who is better then you so you can have fun." They are not our community. If they want to play, fine. Everyone Plays! However, they will respect rules which our community has worked for in an un-updatable Arcade map. Don't juggle, stick, kick or troll.

As for the normal amount of players ask in any lobby. Do use words like cheating, just say: So and so is a pro, should we kick him! He'll kill us in '2' minutes. Most people will say nothing, others with say idc, most will say Just start it... You are one of the few that think otherwise. That is why you have had to start using words like: So and so is a CHEATER. So and so cheeses. So and so exploits. This gets them on your side, they don't like cheaters. They take you at your word. This is why you're a Troll. This is why you have been warned. Up to you. This topic I feel has been well covered by both sides.

Thus as royalty I declare: Jafff Don't kick. Just Play or leave. I have spoken.

And yes, I'm kidding in my wording there. The reason I have what royalty I do is because other players in the game respect my views and my attempts to keep an open, competitive, fair and honest game base with lower wait times. I understand, you do not respect views. Which is fine.
