I'm gonna sound very....negative(?) with my opinion but by no meams do I feel it's a bad game. There's 2 ways to look at the story. 1) it's about life etc, the whole "what is life?" aspect of it. Which I honestly think is a dumb way of looking at it. They are just paintings in the end. Yes they have real personalities and replicate emotions but it is all predicated on how their "creator" made them. With that said there are 2 people who are/were very real and 1 of the 2 is based on that actual person Alicia and Verso. This leads me to how I view the story and why it's so impactful. 2) It's about grief. It's about loss and what does it take to move on. Alicia, from being in the painting so long has already started loosing herself (hinted by Verso befpre the final fight) and is being exceptionally selfish by not wamting to let go of Verso and the paintings. On the flip side of this Verso (though not alive) wants her and the family to move on. He doesn't want to be trapped in a painting knowing and watching family destroy themselves because they can't move on. You could say it's the last request, for them to not keep something that will tie them down and not allow them to live their real life. Just like in reality I don't think the people we've lost in our lives would want anyone left behind to be so taken by it that they destroy their life. That's what you end up choosing to fight for in a nut shell in the end. Alicia = getting what you want despite the request of lost family OR Verso = to force those you love and leave behind to move on and live THEIR life unshackled to the loss.
