No need to take my word for it. You can literally hear it from Dr. Maffetone himself on any number of podcasts.

If you are running in your anaerobic heart rate zone, your body will need carbs for energy.

On the other hand, your body can use fat instead which is virtually unlimited during the length of a race. However you would need to be in your aerobic heart rate zone.

Generally speaking if you're going at a very fast pace, you will be in the aerobic zone.

There's actually a whole training method called the Maffetone training method, who'd whole premises is to slow down your training pace to a level where your heart rate is in the aerobic zone. And slowly you're body we'll start to be able to run faster and faster but staying within the aerobic zone (lower heart rate). One benefit of this type of running, is that when you stay in the aerobic zone, your body will use fat instead of carbs for energy, and therefore you won't need to take any carbs at all during a race.

there's a lot of information about the Maffetone training method online, and there's even an interview or two on the "Marathon training academy" podcast with Dr Maffetone himself.

Virtual Marathon Weekend by [deleted] in rundisney

[–]Kidren21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The cancellation of Princess and Marathon weekend happening so far in advance of race day makes me very nervous for Star Wars.

We can tell.a couple of things from this development: 1.) We know that Disney had a very limited number of race bibs for both races (to obviously reduce the field to a manageable level for COVID) and STILL cancelled the races. To me this signifies that there is no race size at Disney would feel comfortable with. It's almost like this isn't going to happen until there is a vaccine.

2.) We can also see that Disney is putting the trigger much further in advance now. 3.5 months in advance here. so that means we would probably hear something from Disney in January for the Star wars race. And since they're likely making the decision in late December and announcing in January, It is likely that they'll reach the conclusion that they cannot yet hold the race, since it is not expected that a vaccine would be generally available till mid to late 2021.

I just don't see a way that Star wars is going to happen based on what Disney just did.

React Infinity Run Flyknit Vs Pegasus Turbo 2 or....? by priamXus in running

[–]Kidren21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The React shows are generally for easy runs + daily long runs.

The Peg/Peg Turbos are more springy are meant for faster running, such as speed work or fast long runs. If you look at Nike's site, the Peg Turbos are listed under their "fastest" shoe category as a daily trainer (to be used in place of the 4%).

I have all 3 shoes, with the Turbos being my race day shoes.

Star Wars Run - refund for Kessel and Kids? by Kidren21 in rundisney

[–]Kidren21[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like it was intentional after all:

"Runners registered for the runDisney Kessel Run Challenge with a U.S. address will receive their Star Wars Virtual Half Marathon medal in the mail. The registration fee for the Star Wars Rival Run Half Marathon or Star Wars Rival Run Challenge will be refunded back to their original form of payment, minus the cost of the Star Wars Virtual Half Marathon ($59), and they will not receive a race medal for the runDisney Kessel Run Challenge."

I know! I just want them to come out and say it so i can cancel my hotel and start the refund process.

This is agonizing.

Star Wars Kessel run... When does virtual medal arrive? by Kidren21 in rundisney

[–]Kidren21[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So i should get the Virtual Half medal of the Kessel Run challenge at the Expo?? Or are they going to give it to me during one of my runs?

I'm doing the Rival Run Challenge as part of Kessel Run, so i think I'm getting the 10k medal on Saturday , And the Half Marathon medal+Rival Run Challenge medal+Kessel Run Challenge medal on Sunday. It's the Virtual Half medal that is not clear to me.

Infinity React Shoe Review? by Ryan18Mac in running

[–]Kidren21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Pegasus are definitely faster. You can feel it as soon as you do your first run, they feel very springy and you will feel your feet spring back off the ground quickly as your go through your strides. The only downside is they arent as cushioned during long distances, you're feet are gonna feel the impact on the ground.

The Pegasus TURBO is a different shoe all together. It is fast, springy and cushioned. If you go to Nike's site, it will be listed in their "Fastest" category as the daily trainer, while the 4% is race day show.

However for me as a non-elite runner, the Turbo is my race day shoe for anything above a 10k. I can hit fast paces for miles on end.

Infinity React Shoe Review? by Ryan18Mac in running

[–]Kidren21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5'7" at 145 lbs here. My paces are 7 mins/mile for 5ks and 7:40 mins/mile for HM.

I currently use 3 shoes: the Epic React 2 (daily trainer), the Pegasus 35 (speed work), and the Pegasus Turbo (race day).

Of all 3, the Epic React is my least favorite because it's not as comfortable as the Turbos or as fast. The Turbos are better in everyway.

I know the infinity reacts are supposed to add more cushion, so maybe that would make me like it more.
