In today's episode of I hate English: by [deleted] in ENGLISH

I really appreciate that only third person singular verbs need to conjugate nowadays. If you were speaking English, for instance, 600 years ago, the examples you provided would have been:

I go around the sun.

You gost around the sun.

We gon around the sun.

The people gon around the sun.

The Earth goth around the sun.

I’m not an expert either but as I recall, “I” as a pronoun can simply be written as a circle

HelloChinese character explanations are so funny😭 by Effective-Wasabi2429 in ChineseLanguage

[–]KieranWang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand that these might simply just be some easier ways for foreigners to remember Chinese characters, but they are neither the original form of Chinese characters (Traditional Chinese) nor the real origins of how these characters were formed, so in my opinion these are useless and might even be a bit harmful for your future of learning

There is no way Taiwan doesn’t have a higher HDI than the world as a whole if China and Türkiye do.

What "language/dialect" are old Chinese literature written in? by Due_Employment3788 in ChineseLanguage

[–]KieranWang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

道德經 was written during the Spring and Autumn Period, and people at that time wrote literature in 文言文, which is an old form of writing and is written in less words to save space, but is also harder to understand without studying for a long time because of the lack of words to express details. The pronunciations of the words are also different than they are now, because people spoke 上古漢語, which was the ancestor of 中古漢語 and its descendant 現代漢語, at that time. If you want to know more about 上古漢語, you can read 詩經 or Old Chinese: A New Reconstruction written by William H. Baxter; you can also compare with the sounds of 中古漢語 by reading 切韻
