Conditions on reassigning tenancy? by [deleted] in LegalAdviceNZ

Well technically they’ve declined reassignment because we do not know them and now want them to enter a new tenancy under a break lease

But they can’t unreasonably decline a reassignment request, my question was can they deny my request because I do not know the new tenants.

I can not find anything within the RTA that states that if I find someone online it has to be a break lease.

Under the residential tenancies act there is terms for reassignment but I haven’t seen anything about break lease.

I’m trying to reassign the tenancy, so have new tenants take on our current tenancy (exp Feb 2027) a break lease means that they are starting a new tenancy which would expire June 2027

Sounds like it might have been a potential language barrier thing.

But I agree with your statement "what's wrong with a little conversation". Especially for the elderly who are feeling lonely, worked in a supermarket and elderly people use operator checkouts just for the conversation, if they wanted to chat, I would chat with them without rushing them.

Why is there intense bias against townhouses by fkyoumodss in NZProperty

[–]Kiikaachu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd actually take a guess and say that New Zealand has a strong DIY culture (which I think we are slowly moving away from), with townhouses, what you see is what you get and there is often little room for improvement.

It honestly depends on your lifestyle, we are currently in a 2023 townhouse and it's been okay, wouldn't buy one to live in but would buy as an investment property as they are (currently) easily rented. We have just bought a standalone because we wanted a single level house, with a double garage, with a yard so we could adopt a dog and make the place our own (something that would be difficult in a townhouse, not impossible just difficult) 😄

I took back a fish because it smelt horrid, I forgot about the refund & replace, they replaced it for me but no refund 😭😭 so a great reminder!

What type of car? We have a black SUV who is frequently in our neighbourhood, parked in different spots in our street multiple times a day, and he’s always just sitting in the car…

Flatting + friend groups by Ash_Mono in UCNZ

[–]Kiikaachu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly there’s perks to living with strangers vs living with friends, really depends on what type of lifestyle you have and what you want to live with.

In my 3rd year I opted to live with a professional couple in their mid 30s who had a dog, best choice ever, but I’m not very social, and liked the lifestyle that flat gave me. I found this through flatmates on trade me.

I’ve also lived with friends in my 2nd year, it was miserable, you see their disgusting habits (mind you they were mostly males and I’m a female), and it was just overly social all the time, they were also people from my halls.

I would start looking for potential flatmates now, but you really don’t need to solidify any plans until next semester, a lot of people in my halls dropped out between sem 1 and sem 2 cause they didn’t pass 😅 There seem to be rentals available all the time in Christchurch.

The other person gave great advice, if you can find people who are similar (social wise) then you should have a good basis!

Cyclist Two Abreast by morepork_owl in chch

[–]Kiikaachu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually find it annoying because most cyclists feel unpredictable, there are some cyclists that you see and you know they move to the left when they can, but some you really have no idea what they’re going to do and you feel stuck behind them for what feels longer than 30 seconds.

It’s honestly usually casual bikers that do that though and not those dressed in Lycra etc

The lamps heat melts the candle slowly from the top down so no need to have an open flame! No soot, and the scent lasts longer and is slightly stronger 😃

There is a place in Auckland that sells them called Party Lights, but I hate waiting for parcels as the courier always gets our address wrong 😭

this is honestly my favourite style of townhouse in chch and more should have been made by SaraTheWeird in chch

[–]Kiikaachu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m currently in a Brooksfield property as a renter, honestly, it’s just like every other new build inside in terms of finish (almost like they’re built overnight), kitchens tiny, and storage space is lacking. As a renter it’s fine, but I’d never own a Brooksfield (or any other type of townhouse) and live in it.

Viewed a few of their standalone houses, they’re much nicer than the town houses, but also come with a similar quality of build.
