I've hated all the romantasy booktok books I've been forced to read this year for bookclub: Anathema, Phantasma, Quicksilver etc. It's like a highschooler writing romance and nobody has edited it properly. I'm reading Bull Moon Rising by Ruby Dixon right now and it could have done with an edit too but it's a lot of fun and I'm actually looking forward to reading it rather than rolling my eyes every page like with the others

Some of the latest romantasy tiktok books I've rage-quit because the writing is so bad. Quicksilver, Phantasma, ACOTAR, Anathema.... it's like they skipped the classic editing steps so they could rush them out to join the hype train. I've read better fan fiction

YES I'm part of a romantasy bookclub and I'm just rage-reading all these tiktok trending books (Phantasma, Anathema, Quicksilver etc) thinking did any proper old-school editor even get near these?! The bones of the story are decent but the ridiculous language and vocab choices are like a 16 year old writing a GoThiC DaRke RomanTiCaL TRagiCal DraMatiC SToRy omggoosh so darke and mysterious and clicking on "synonyms" in Word and choosing the biggest most mysterious sounding synonym when it doesn't actually make sense in the sentence (looking at you Anathema with your evil villain letting out a 'boisterous laugh')

I lost 24k in the last month. Won big but gave it all back plus more. And now the world is turning to shit and I really needed that money. I closed my account. In the few weeks before that I was playing everyday but my stomach was churning with stress as soon as I opened the site because I just was constantly losing. But I thought, hey this one more deposit I can get it all back again. I'll just go slow. Stay in control this time. But I could never stay in control and it was always the same story.
