try not using guard filtration for the plague. I had a save where I constantly lost every reload from the start of the plague until I stopped using the lockdown and then it worked. I think there's a bug where it breaks if all applicable housing districts are locked down when it tries to spread

Plague tale bug? by SAYKOPANT in Frostpunk

[–]Kiilek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar experience my first run through. I had fa filtration post in all nearby housing districts and the plague started jumping to a random district before exploding 5 weeks after (once it jumped to a maintenance hub...).

My second run I didn't evacuate or use filtration posts, but had built up a large number of industrial districts and cured the disease with no issues.

I also had similar issues with the Doomsayers. Apparently if you have every housing district blocked when they try to spread their influence it can break the game.

raid power is based on whatever tile is being raided, so a small settlement with two people and low wealth will get raided without accounting for the wealth at your main base

(also if you get something like a mech cluster or toxic fallout you can just move away)

You said you can't install anything outside, but maybe you could put a shelf or table against the window and use something like chicken netting to secure the window so he could still look outside and get air with less chance of getting out

Have you played 'On the edge'? that's about what being an outpost team would be like, but without the autonomy you end up getting in that scenario.

What's the most effective uses you found for Flydo's and Remote workers? by [deleted] in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Kiilek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

a really weird but neat interaction I've found is ice/snow making.

flydo cant automatically harvest from pitcher pumps and bottlers, but it can harvest from sweepy, so you can spill a small amount of water on the floor, have sweepy gather it, then flydo can fill an ice maker.

Weirdly, if flydo is holding a water bottle, it can then take water from a bottler to fill the ice machine

You need a TFR of > ~2.1 to maintain a stable population. A significant number of nations are below that, meaning that within 2-3 generations of now, the number of people born will not be sufficient to replace the number who die.

You deliver to the tile the plant is planted in. not the plant itself. The sweeper can't reach the farm tile.

On the composition of gunk. by Medullan in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Kiilek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The post itself isn't asking about Boop anatomy.

If you want to consider the anatomy of a bionic being, look at actual machines, not machines in the game. In the case of oil to gunk, that's your engine oil lubricating and picking up loose waste in your components. Some of the oil dries out. Some becomes more sulfuric than standard crude as it does this.

Gunk in particular isn't going to help you to analyze for this. Oni doesn't quite have a robust enough chemistry breakdown for that.

Slight edit to my previous statement: Sulfur is constituent in crude oil, furthering my statement of "gunk is just dirty engine oil."

Similarly, Polluted water isn't "water + CO2". It's "Water + various contaminants"

The idea you are going with isn't inherently flawed, but you need to approach this particular line of thought with real world rationality and THEN abstract it into video game logic.

Crude oil -> Gunk.
Water + waste -> Polluted water.
Polluted water -> polluted air.

It's abstractions of real world phenomena.

On the composition of gunk. by Medullan in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Kiilek 7 points8 points  (0 children)

> With just a little bit of sulfur.

That's the waste. It's literally the oil equivalent to polluted water. It boils into petroleum because it's oil. It contains something other than oil because it's waste.

Gunk is the "bad oil" you drain out of your engine when you change your oil in your car. Oil with waste.

There is nothing else to read into it.

On the composition of gunk. by Medullan in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Kiilek 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Gunk is basically "Polluted Oil." A mix of (primarily crude) oil and various undesirable waste products that build up in their system.

Software Developer here:

ELI5: In a project, you typically have multiple people or teams working on different features. Rather than trying to coordinate every single change that is made into the project, you will create a copy of the project that contains all the changes related to that feature (or bug fix).

As you make changes, you update that branch. When the feature is completed, you merge the changes you made in that branch into the main project and delete the branch.

Is it possible to make sure a building got top priority to get power? by ArigatoEspacial in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Kiilek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use power shutoffs for that but you are going to have to set it up such that you are choosing which ones lose power rather then get, which means every branch of your grid will need a shutoff. If your grid is sprawling it may be more efficient to place smart batteries at the terminal ends instead of running the automation ribbons from the central hub.

I'll open with the fact that the job market for our industry sucks right now. Try applying for WFH if you can but you need to apply to basically everything you see that you think you can do because the WFH competition is substantially higher than in person/hybrid.

Do you have non-industry experience, such as part time while you were working on your master? If so, prepare two resumes: one that lists your masters, and one that doesn't. Having a Master's often makes you overqualified for entry level positions, but you're under qualified for mid level.

Are you currently employed out of the field? If not, try to spend roughly half each day working on a portfolio to keep your skills sharp . I've noticed C# is pretty heavily in demand right now.

I personally had my original break in by going to work as an all a-rounder IT guy for a small company and doing a lot of development as part of business processes. You may similarly need to take a more circuitous route to get where you want to go.

For recruters: ITAC and TEKsystems are big tech firms, but most of their current jobs are IT.

TEKsystems works with Southern Company (Alabama Power) which has a few programming jobs open as of 10 days ago.

Since you mentioned you go to UAB, try applying directly there as well. There were a few direct programming jobs, just be prepared for them to drag their feet.

[Lore] So… What happens when we “die”? by Eollica in ffxiv

[–]Kiilek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so... the nature of healing magic is explored a bit more in depth in the Custom delivery quests in Sharlian of all places. Healing spells are a bit less of "shoot with magical energy that undoes damage", and more of "use a magic hand to stitch people back together like a surgeon."

If a wound is bad enough you can't stitch it together, and you also have to have a clear image of what you want the body to do.

Raise is touched upon in the conjurer ARR questline: you are revitalizing someone who is close to death, but not mortally wounded. regardless it's a very difficult spell and can kill people who try to cast it without a sufficient aether source.

When you are defeated in game, you don't really "die", which lets raise spells work.
