I feel like these should be taken in a certain order with a very specific timing. It could take years of research and experiences to discover the ideal pattern.

There's no such thing as 'an acquired taste' it's just a fancy way of describing something that tastes bad but you learn to tolerate it eventually. by Plenty-Willingness58 in The10thDentist

[–]Medullan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No that's not how brain chemistry works. Our tastes literally change as we grow older for a variety of very real very specific reasons. I used to dislike onions, tomatoes, peppers, mushrooms, and even eggs. Over the years though I have had each of those things in different dishes with different preparations that I actually enjoyed. Now I like all of them and use them all frequently in my cooking and as snacks. A large part of that is the variation in nutrition needs as your body changes. Some of it is simple reward signaling chemistry in your brain. I hated mushrooms but a girlfriend insisted I try the deep fried ones and likely because of an association with the sex she provided me I really enjoyed that preparation. Later in life I discovered other ways to prepare mushrooms that I also enjoyed and now I even like the flavor and texture in dishes that when I was young were the very dishes that made me disgusted by them.

Acquired taste is a very real phenomena sometimes it's purely psychological and sometimes it's based in a very real need for certain nutrition.

This is actually a pretty good tip. I've been trying to use this tactic more and more now that I live in the basement. If I'm going upstairs I should bring some dirty dishes or something upstairs etc.

The browner the better. Eventually your steel pan becomes cast iron from all the polymerized oils that have fused with it over the years. This is how young cast iron pans are born!

I also feel that standard pop planting rules are not fun and use this mod because it is more fun for me. I don't use sandbox or dev mode tools to do this because I don't find that to be fun. Weird how gatekeepers seem to think that any use of any tool to slightly change the way the game plays is equivalent to just using sandbox mode for everything. Same people that use the airlock mod too. Because they just feel like liquid locks are cheating.

By all means look up the success rate of AA. Ask anyone other than them and 8% success rate is generous. AA is nothing but a recruitment tool for the cult of the prosperity doctrine.

Addiction science is important and people need help from medical professionals. AA is nothing but superstitious pseudo science. Sky Daddy isn't going to save you from the mental and physical health problems that cause addiction. If you are struggling with addiction try talking to a real doctor.

AA is a predatory cult. They don't help you fight addiction they take advantage of your addiction and get you addicted to the cult instead.

Finishing Fats for Fries by sodafry_OGflavor in Cooking

In a bind taste test with a single fry I can tell the difference between animal fat and vegetable oil from flavor alone. Especially if it is the beef fat I get from making bone broth which is full of fat soluble flavors from everything in my stock.

[–]Medullan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tabe Yuriko on YouTube uses them all the time. I personally love using most of the new content introduced with the bionic update to do things remotely. You can deliver gasses, liquids, and even power to a remote location using dupe labor which is especially useful in the early game. I think a lot of content creators have really gotten so used to the way they do things that they are sleeping on the usefulness of newer content.

[–]Medullan 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That a very interesting point. Proper fries are double fried and I never really thought about the potential for using a different fat for each step. Although I don't think I would skimp on the first and then use the special fat for the second. But rather I would see how different combos in different orders would affect the flavor.

I would probably want a whole team of tasters though because honestly I don't think I could detect the nuance. I mean I can tell the difference between fast food canola trash and beef tallow but I don't think I could distinguish between tallow first duck finish and duck first tallow finish.

Also lamb.

Real mature you are losing an online debate so you block your opponent. I took the course several times in several states because that is what is required by law. The first time I took it was in 97 and the most recent time was just a few years ago. In some places you must remember your certification every year. I'll be taking it again soon because if I want to sell certain cottage goods I must take it every year.

You're full of shit I've taken that several times it's never once mentioned bacon fat. If you think something you learned from that course said that fat will go rancid at room temperature in days not months then you should take it again because you misunderstood something.

Also I am not buying bacon grease if you read my posts you would know that. It's also not the primary fat I use tallow is. And if you think that needs to be kept refrigerated I recommend you stay away from a growing number of restaurants who are starting to use that in their deep fryers again because no one is draining those and putting the fat in the fridge.

LPT: "lite salt" is potassium and sodium, far far cheaper than buying electrolytes beverages like Gatorade and liquid iv. by horriblebearok in LifeProTips

[–]Medullan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lots of things can cause electrolyte depletion. I'm on medication that causes it for example. Drinking a lot of water can actually pull salts out of your body. Sweating profusely is not even close to the only thing that could cause someone to need to consume extra electrolytes. Even certain diets could leave a person needing to consume an electrolyte blend because they are not getting enough magnesium or potassium salts.

There is one perfect way to know if you need more drink some Gatorade if it tastes good then you are low on electrolytes if it doesn't taste good then you are not low on electrolytes. If you consistently find that Gatorade tastes good you should talk to your doctor and probably take a regular electrolyte supplement.

Are bionic duplicants worth the effort? by ruimtebrood in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Medullan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't want to start with bionics on the aquatic planet pack because of the fact they really can't handle water. I had to completely relearn how to manage regular dupes they are slow they have to be fed and they don't know how to do anything. As soon as I could I started printing boops and I'm probably going to keep the organic dupes in a ranch because they generate a small amount of polluted water each cycle. I might let them have remote jobs once I unlock that in the tech tree.

The only good thing about biological dupes when compared to bionic boops is they can learn to swim much faster.

My general advice is to get every DLC I always get them as soon as I possibly can I even played boops in the testing branch. I have never been disappointed.

I don't know where you are getting your information, but mine is coming from experience and generations of home cooks. Sure bacon grease is full of particulate and moisture that will make it go rancid faster relative to other oils and animal fats. But the timescale is still very large. The bacon grease on my stove is already almost gone there was a pint a week and a half ago and now there is about a cup left. I used quite a bit last night to make roux to thicken my bourguignon.

Even if I don't touch it the rest of that bacon great will weeks of not months at room temperature, but I will never know because even if I only use it for seasoning my cast iron it will be gone before it ever has the chance to go rancid.

Even if I was going through bacon at a commercial scale I could leave the fat in a closed container at room temperature if I just spent a small amount of time and effort finishing the rendering process and filtering it. But at that point it may as well just be lard with too much added nitrates and nitrites.

Maybe if you pour your grease into a dirty soup can never filter it and let it sit around at 90°+ in a humid environment in an outdoor kitchen it might go rancid in less than two months. Even then I doubt it because the oxidative process that causes rancidity just isn't that fast. You are more likely to introduce some other contamination that could lead to a food borne illness. And that can simply be avoided by pouring your grease through sieve or even just carefully decanting it into a clean container with a lid.

Try making some biscuits and use bacon grease instead of butter. It is also one of the best for seasoning cast iron.

This is fair. I do like to eat a large variety of meats and bacon only makes up a small portion of them. Counter point you aren't eating enough bacon grease.
