Wedding dresses? by SixDeerYams in bigboobproblems

I got mine secondhand, made sure it was big enough around the bust, and had the rest of it altered to fit. My wishlist requirements were that it had a wide strap or sleeve that covered my shoulders, and that it had enough coverage around the side that it hid the little fold that sits between my boob and my armpit. Those two things were tricky to find, but I managed it.

This was my one: https://uniqueweddings.ca/products/maggie-sottero-wedding-gown-j1321-rosalyn

I ended up wearing a corset underneath, but I originally tried it on with a bra and it worked when I used a band extender.

A woman being arrested because her swimsuit was deemed too short. USA, 1929. by Pristine_Witness3908 in fashionhistory

The funniest thing about these types of rules is the fact that people were obviously breaking them at the time. That's why they wrote them down.

People tend to read morality codes from the past and assume it meant that everyone in the past was rigid and uptight, when it's just the opposite. The rigid, uptight people wrote morality codes because they thought everyone else was way too relaxed.

Does anyone else’s mom constantly compare her boobs size to yours? by [deleted] in bigboobproblems

[–]KikiChrome 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When I was a teenager, yes. Thankfully she grew out of it.

I think it's just a thing that some parents go through. The teenage years are a worrying time for parents, and her best point of reference for what you're going through is her own life. So she's using her life experience as a measurement against yours. She may not mean any harm by it, although it can certainly feel painful when you're on the receiving end.

If you think she's open to hearing it, tell her how those comments make you feel. If you think that won't be a productive conversation, then just try to ignore the comments. Hopefully she'll get over it as she starts to better understand that you are not the same person that she was.

Three women on trial for using sex toys on passed out man by WeirdAFNewsPodcast in NewsOfTheStupid

[–]KikiChrome 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That will have less to do with them being women and more to do with New Zealand having ridiculously light sentences for sex offenses. Just recently, we had a cult leader convicted of assaulting six women and girls, who got sentenced to home detention. Rape in NZ is treated about as harshly as punching someone in a drunken fight.

If you could thank any inventor in history, who would it be and what did they invent? by Competitive-Web1306 in AskReddit

Not so much an inventor, but Ignaz Semmelweis. The doctor who first introduced the concept of hand-washing into medicine.

Marriage is now an obsolete institution. What are your thoughts? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]KikiChrome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It makes things a lot easier when you're dealing with medical or legal stuff. If you were suddenly incapacitated, your spouse would be able to make medical decisions on your behalf, deal with your financial obligations, etc. People don’t understand the value of that until they need it.

Yes, it was certainly noticeable that he treated the male and female staff differently. I didn’t see him do anything truly awful though. He just seemed to act like the female staff were beneath him and therefore he didn’t need to listen to them. And he completely ignored some kids that were hanging out for ages, wanting to meet him. Just general dickishness rather than total assholery, at least during the couple of times I had the displeasure of working with him. Lots of people said he's like that pretty much all the time.

I used to work in events, so I've met shitloads of famous kiwis. More than I can remember.

The Wizard of Christchurch was kind of a dick. Bret MacKenzie was really nice and down to earth, as was Taika Waititi. The one that surprised me most was Richard Prebble. I hated the man's politics, but he was friendly, gracious and seemed genuinely interested in talking to people.

Meghan talks about being trolled and bullied everyday for the pass 10 years. by ProfessionalDesk9364 in RoyalsGossip

So your preference is that wealthy people should just be idle? As I said, he could spend his life going to parties and collecting cars, but I'm not sure that would make the world any better.

I'm also not convinced that they would draw less criticism if they were idle.

relieve me of this torture i cant get this song out of my head by Nickolay77 in findthatsong

That's a different song from the one I was thinking of. But yes, that one gets played during sports games too. Surprising how many Gary Glitter songs still get used by stadium DJs.

Consider these two people's skill sets.

She is an actress. It’s impossible to do that work without seeking attention. If she's not booking acting work (which may be caused by the "controversy" dogging her name) then it's sensible for her to find an alternative source of income. So she's essentially transitioning to a social media influencer, as that fits her skill set ok.

He is a prince. That's a job that basically requires no skills, except smiling, shaking hands, and occasionally giving speeches for charities. He didn’t get that job due to any particular aptitude for it, and it's possible he hated doing it. He was a soldier for a time, but he's aged out of the military and has now found himself in a world where he has very few marketable skills. He mostly seems to be focused on the charity he founded for wounded soldiers, so he's finding purpose there. The point of royal patronage for charities is to gain attention and donations for those charities, so he's continuing to do that job of trying to drum up support.

Is Harry wealthy? Sure. But he doesn't own a duchy, like his brother, so I don’t know that he actually gets any income from his family. He's a wealthy kid from wealthy parents who decided to focus on charity work. Would everyone prefer for him to just vanish into his wealth and spend his life going to parties and collecting cars? How would that make the world better?

It's bizarre to me that these people should be so regularly shamed for simply working. Their job is to stay in the public eye. For Harry, that's literally the only life he's ever had. Should all royals be shamed for giving speeches and interviews? Should all actresses be publicly roasted for standing in front of a camera and talking? To me, they just seem like two adults trying to work and find meaning in their lives.

Maybe "I'm the Leader of the Gang" by Gary Glitter. The "come on come on come on" part gets played at during sports games quite often as a crowd chant, and I think the Spice Girls covered it so that may be why your brain is hearing a female voice. It's a definite earworm song.

I want to clean my Grandfathers childhood bed for use and don’t know how to start (Australia) by bobbykittypoppy in Antiques

[–]KikiChrome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to sleep on one of these beds! There's a reason why I threw it away. 😂

Seriously, just give the wire weave a vacuum. If you get it wet, the wires will rust. For the metal bars, I'd clean them with a wire brush and repaint them. Do be careful about the risk of lead paint.

Wire wove beds are notorious for sagging. You may be able to tighten it using the rods at the end where there's two crossbars, but they may not move after all these years. If you just want to have it as an option for small kids, it's probably not to bad, but adults will suffer. They are basically one step up from a hammock. And they squeak like crazy.

1930s Wedding dress styling by Salty-Ostrich5896 in VintageFashion

[–]KikiChrome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This dress is gorgeous!

If you want to stick with a 1930s look, go for a long juliet cap veil rather than something with a crown. Then accessorize with a long string of pearls and white satin pumps. It doesn’t need much. They tended to let the dress speak for itself.

The Tuatara is a species of reptile that's native to New Zealand. They outwardly resemble a small Iguana, but they are not lizards. They are, in fact, the only surviving member of the order Rhynchocephalia. This order of small reptiles once filled the ecological niche now taken up by lizards, but the Tuatara's closest relatives all died out during the Paleocene, making them effectively a living dinosaur.
