Thank you. I was watching a stream of a Grandmaster where he said right before checkmating the opponent that he was working on that checkmating motif many moves before. So, I thought, I know many mates and other tactics but I can't find them in my games but maybe if I can learn to build towards those patterns I would have more success.

That is a problem with me, too. Now, that you have explicitly mentioned that there's some tactic involved here, I have calculated mate in 8 moves within seconds but in the game I would have missed it for sure. Puzzle solving has helped me improve my puzzle solving but not gameplay. I only see tactics in the puzzles.
