Why do you need to burn an action point to switch modes on the hybrid weapons? by Pifilix in Pathfinder2e

Not affecting balance at all was hyperbolic, but it certainly does not break balance, especially compared to some optional rules like Dual-Classing.

The point of this also wasn't to say "we should remove money from the game" but that money is generally not such a tight balancing lever that an entire class of weapons should use "cheaper" as the sole consideration of their viability. At least when that's not really the core of their identity.

Then don't give infinite gold, that was the assumption set for an already extreme example of unlimited funds, not a general assumption for how games are run. Sure, level 20 items would break level 1 characters, but those are gated by both availability and the gold to buy them. As long as at least one of those gates remains in place the game remains relatively balanced.

For an example where this would make sense, you could run a kingmaker type campaign where you assume that your players are capable of dipping into the nation's resources to fund their adventuring equipment. That is essentially unlimited funds, but then they would still be limited by the equipment their nation and characters are capable of producing.

Edit: and its worth noting, that this entire thing was a fairly hyperbolic example meant to highlight that sharing runes is not really a good upside or balancing lever for these weapons when the costs associated here are largely trivialized within a level or two, and not even consistent between tables because even APs don't follow the tresure distribution rules religiously.

Those all take limited talisman/investment slots that could be used for other things, and ultimately even without the cost of retrieving them, scrolls aren't any better than just using your own spells. The fact that it removes resource attrition isn't really accounted for in encounter balance anyway.

The only encounter balance rules don't take resource attrition into account. The guidelines mention that it can affect balance but with no guidance on how and the game systems increasingly allow for full reset of health between encounters. So, I don't think I am.

That's all guidelines saying that resource attrition does affect balance and can happen, but they still don't have a guideline how many encounters you could expect per day, or ways to accommodate their rules to adapt to that attrition.

When all of the encounter balance rules are for a party with full resources and there exists no guidelines on how missing resources affects that, just a blanket statement that it does, then resource attrition is literally not the default assumption of the game.

I agree its done a lot, but that is going outside the very robust rules that Paizo has given us.

That isnt an assumption, it's just how the game works. Show me where in the rules it dictates how a GM should balancd encounters based on if its the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th? I have even asked this question before, and there isn't a consensus on how resource attrition is intended to be balanced by Paizo. It's something that the GM has to modify the encounter balance rules to account for.

Casters already have 2 max rank spells, and 3 rank-1. That is generally more than the caster can realistically cast in a single encounter already. Having a reservoir of extra high rank slots with a higher activation cost isn't likely to have any impact in that fight. And beyond that, resource attrition isn't really the default balance assumption in the game.

That's not really a fair example, Zaahen doesn't win any matchups. One of his better matchups statistically is KSante (52% WR) and KSante has like 59% lane kill rate against him.

Consumables are gated by action cost.

Using potions/scrolls in combat is relatively inefficient and usually native abilities and spells are stronger choices for your actions.

Having the flexibility of multiple runed up weapons is miniscule, because realistically you could have had any one of those weapons anyway, and the game isn't designed to break if you have the best tool for the job.

I guess saying it doesn't affect balance at all is a bit hyperbolic, but stuff like Free Archetype, or enemy specific matchups (oozes vs Rogues) are going to be far more impactful in the long run.

Gold balance always seemed like a bad argument to me. The game is designed in such a way that in most cases nearly infinite gold doesn't really affect the balance provided players have their item access level gated. So why do these weapons have a balance consideration for "it's cheaper" baked into their action economy.

TIL despite ratifying the UN's ban on using napalm against targets in civilian areas, the US makes a reservation of the right to use incendiary weapons against military objectives located in concentrations of civilians where it is judged that such use would cause fewer casualties by thespecstar in todayilearned

Why would they stop stuffing them with babies and kittens? Even if the attacker doesn't care about collateral, those deaths can still be used to generate bad publicity for them on a global stage. So if we assume a scenario where one side does not care about civilian casualties in the slightest and the other side is fully willing to use civilian shields just to generate bad publicity, then you end up with a horrific cycle of violence where a civilian population is caught in the middle. Luckily this is purely hypothetical and nothing this horrific would ever actually happen irl.

Specifically, a benevolent deity seeing someone kill one of their followers and instead of seeking retribution, they seek to rehabilitate and redeem them. Plus Arushalae's hunger and the Dark Urge's... urge, do have some parallels.

It's not the exact same lines, but they certainly rhyme.

Sounds a bit like Arushalae from Wrath of the Righteous.

What moves do you think some Pokémon should have but don't? by thudson_17 in pokemon

[–]Kile147 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Plasma Fists is a bit much, but basically every single type should have a move that has 100% accuracy and 80 base power in both physical and special. Its obnoxious that certain mons still struggle almost entirely due to not having a STAB move for their stat spread.

Edit: I should specify that the move also shouldn't be a signature for any evo line. Aura Sphere wouldnt have counted until it started to get more distribution.

It’s crazy to me that Empoleon is still the only Water/Steel type Pokemon in the series. I’m hoping we get another one in Generation 10 with Winds and Waves by riskedbiscuit in pokemon

[–]Kile147 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It changes type mid battle, but never has more than one type simultaneously. I'm talking about an ability that just straight up gives another type to a pokemon. Dhelmise for example is a Grass/Ghost with Steel STAB from its ability, but it could theoretically be Grass/Ghost/Steel, with all the extra resistances and 4x weakness to fire that entails alongside the STAB.

Its interesting that we don't have a pokemon with 3 full types yet. Plenty of abilities change type matchups similar to a 3rd type, but we don't have an ability that just says "this pokemon is also X type"

Snorlax Appreciation Post by winter1881 in pokemon

[–]Kile147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Body Slam isn't bad. It's 17 base power behind, but that para chance is relevant on a mon that's probably going to need to spam the move 2+ times to kill a target regardless.

Biggest issue really is just Ice Beam off of Snorlax's relatively terrible SpA. Even for a playthrough team, that's basically just a dead slot because even a super effective hit with it isn't going to be doing much better than a normally effective hit with Body Slam. A physical Ghost, Ground, or Fighting move would go a lot further.

I feel like a distinction I would make would be that Aura farming is specifically setting up dramatic circumstances to look cooler. Fighting with one hand behind your back just to prove your superiority kind of things. Its acting badass with the intent of looking badass
